Hotel Mas de la Costa, Aragon, Spain - Explore & Book

"You may be deep in the Aragonese countryside, but staying at Hotel Mas de la Costa is like taking a trip around the world. Charming owners Françoise and Christian are a delight. They've picked up eclectic treasures from a lifetime of adventures: carved wooden Indian doors, Turkish hangings and African masks all tell a tale of a life well-travelled. Yet for all the exotic places they’ve visited, it’s the Matarraña region in east Aragon they have chosen to call home. Set in 23 hectares of olive and almond groves, this lovingly restored 19th-century farmhouse offers peace, quiet and Puertos de Beceite mountain views, which can be enjoyed from the Mediterranean garden, the saltwater infinity pool, and most of its 15 bedrooms. The surrounding region is dotted with medieval towns, Gothic castles and churches galore; while picturesque nature trails are found all around. Epicurean pleasures are very much a part of the Mas de la Costa experience. There’s a ‘slow food’ philosophy here. Gourmet cuisine made from lots of local ingredients is served in the elegant dining room (with original features) or, in the warmer months, from the terrace – where once again you can drink in those magnificent mountain views. Highs The views! You’re surrounded by olive groves, vineyards, mountains and medieval hilltop townsIt’s a haven for cyclists and hikers, with easy access to scenic nature trails We loved the eclectic décor: old family heirlooms sit comfortably next to original pieces the owners collected on their travelsImpressive sustainability: from solar panels and bio-mass pellets powering heating and electricity, to organic local produceRather good for families too Lows The communal breakfast set-up may suit some, but not all (although it's a nice way to meet other guests)Dinner is a formal three-courser and while you can opt for a la carte, you’ll have to venture into the village if you want something a little more down-to-earthWhile the walking is great, there’s very little public transport in these parts and you’ll definitely need a car to explore this beautiful area" - Clemmy Manzo

We have just returned from a seven night holiday at Mas de La Costa and it is difficult to put into words how special and delightful a place this is. The hotel is surrounded by rolling hills ,olive groves and beautifully planted gardens with far reaching views in all directions. The rooms are cleverly decorated with interesting art and pieces brought back from the owners travels. The beds are extremely comfortable with soft linen and pillows. |There are two excellent chefs who prepare a different menu each day using locally sourced ingredients where possible. We ate out several times but there was nothing locally anywhere near as good. |Finally it’s the friendly staff who deserve the biggest accolade. The owner Paquita and her manager Fernando are always on hand to help sort out walks/rides, bring bowls of fruit to the pool, advise on wine etc. Why can’t all hotels be like this!|The biggest recommendation is the number of reviewers who have returned. This is a gem and we can’t wait to return and recharge our batteries.

Magic!||A completely restored building, restorated with love and passion to a level that gave us and ultimate 5 days stay mid october 2022. With only 15 rooms it almost felt like we were alone. Nice quiet surroundings with a beautiful garden and spectacular view, we had a very quiet and relaxing time. ||The restaurant serves fine dining with high quality. With 2 fireplaces, one in the restaurant and one in the lounge, honest bar (self service) and no TV, it was relax in heaven. ||Thank you very much to the owners Francois and Christian, but also to Fernando, both chefs and all personell for a magic few days. Every little details was taken care of. ||We will for sure come back and we will for sure bring our friends. With more then 60-70 nights in a hotel/resort this year, this is one of the very few we can truly recommend. ||You will all forever be in our hearts, we just love the place and the people working in this wonderful place.||Ina & Lars (Norway)

Wow. Exceptional. We enjoyed our stay so much. Excellent personal design by the owners. Excellent service by everyone. Excellent food (French chef added an extra touch that was subtle and creative). And what a stunning location. We booked for four nights and stayed six. You can can walk to Valderrobres or around the countryside. Beautiful pool and plenty of places to sit, read, relax. Thanks to everyone, especially Fernando for organising a pick-up in exceptionally high winds made it too dangerous to motorcycle the last 40 minutes to the hotel! Christian: I hope you renjoy Anti-fragile!

The town of Valderobres is very historic and full of history with its own cathedral and castle - well worth a visit. The hotel Mas de la Costa is just outside the town and with great views. When you arrive at the parking area you are immediately captured by the hotel's impressive, welcoming and warm vista. From the minute you arrive you're treated with the utmost respect. The bedrooms I've stayed in were all exceptional - up there with the best I've been in during my travels worldwide - I like the fact the bedrooms don't have a TV. The restaurant is amazing, the food is awesome and the bodega impressive. There is a fantastic terrace area with tables and chairs where you can choose to dine if you prefer to eat al-fresco. I will definitely include this place on my itinerary next time I'm in the area.

Outstanding property in a truly stunning location. Beautifully presented and imaginatively furnished by proud owners Christian and Francoise, who are a reassuring and visible presence. Food has a distinctly Gallic influence, but uses local produce, with limited but excellent choice on a daily changed table d'hôte. There are many amazing and challenging walks in the area - including several from the front door of the hotel. Christian kindly assisted in suggesting routes and translating directions from Spanish to English. Hope we return one day !

Superb hotel in a quiet location. Great hospitality, amazing views across the Spanish countryside, super comfortable rooms, good food and high level of service with a personal touch from the owners. The staff is very helpful, friendly and professional. The honesty bar, with its large variety of local and international wines and spirits, was a temptation we could not resist during our weekend stay. We will return.

I absolutely love this place! The owners are a lovely couple who take the time to get to know their guests, making them feel at home. The food was OK this time, I think with the proper guidance, the chef could make better choices with regards on the ingredients chosen. I had a tuna fillet for dinner one evening, and sadly, I did not like the flavours. It's a shame that the restaurant staff were overwhelmed that day, otherwise I would have let them know. Nevertheless, I am hoping to go back again this year. All the best!

I recently paid a 5th visit to Mas de la Costa in Valderrobres. It’s becoming a bit like a second home in Spain for me now. On the outskirts of Valderrobres in Aragon, a region that is not heavily visited but is stunning (described as Spain’s Tuscany), it’s rugged, hilly with vast groves of olives and almonds. There’s plenty to see and do, great walking and cycling region too. The Mas itself is beautiful. I find it incredibly relaxing to be there and sleep better than I do at home while I’m there. All the creature comforts you could wish for, set in a stunning backdrop, surround by olive trees and with uninterrupted views of the hills and mountains surrounding it. If you are looking for peace, relaxation, great food and understated luxury, this is somewhere you should head for. I’ve been reluctant to review it before as I don’t want it to get so popular that I can’t get a room there when I want!! However, Christian and Francoise and all the team there deserve every success, so visit and experience it. Finally, the staff are amazing - friendly, welcoming, quietly efficient, anticipating your needs but not fussy and intrusive. They, and the setting in Spain’s Tuscan hills are the real delight.
