Almagro is a pleasant little town to visit for a couple of nights, and I cannot think of a nicer place to stay here than Retiro del Maestre. Tucked away on a quiet side road, but very easy access from the little town ring road and a short stroll to the Plaza Mayor, the hotel is in a great location. It has a free underground garage adjacent, always helpful., although you could easily park on the road. Inside, there is a large, shaded inner courtyard, with plants and a water feature, where you can relax with(or without) a drink, a bar, and lots of quirky little objets de art around, like an old Singer sewing machine, old record player, and some nice photos. Rooms are on the first floor, spacious, clean, good size en suite, large bed. Breakfast is a help yourself buffet on the second floor, with all kinds of cheese, hams, fruit, yoghurts, cereal, breads and cakes. The staff were pleasant and polite. Almagro itself is a sweet little place, with an attractive Plaza Mayor, a nice church, San Augustin, and the Corral du Comedias, the only remaining open theatre in Spain, from medieval times. Nearby, a good trip out is about 15 miles away to the 12th century castle Castillo de Calatrava La Nueva, near Aldea del Rey. Some decent eating options in and around the main square in Almagro, but the best we found was La Tabernilla, about 5 minutes walk away
