These Grand Chateaux Are Opening in France This Summer

"From the private home of the Richer de Belleval family to the town hall, this historical monument in the heart of Montpellier has lived many lives before becoming a Relais & Château boutique hotel and contemporary art foundation, opening on July 6. Each of the 15 rooms and five suites at Hôtel Richer de Belleval feels like entering a monochromatic cabinet of curiosities festooned in rich velour and vivid works of art."

Hotel Richer De Belleval (Montpellier, Occitanie) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"In the sun-drenched heart of Montpellier’s old town, Hôtel Richer de Belleval stands as a glorious collision of centuries. Once a 17th-century mansion, now a ravishing blend of ornamental classicism and modern whimsy, it’s a place where velvet boudoirs meet sculptural lamps, and history lingers in every carved detail. Celebrated dining, a contemporary art foundation, and views over Place de la Canourgue complete the transformation: a soulful escape rooted deeply in time and taste." - Tablet Hotels

Hotel Richer de Belleval||This is a beautiful 300 year old mansion that has been converted into a boutique hotel and part of Relais & Chateau of which we are members. Unfortunately our experience was not the best and we were quite disappointed. First of all when booking we were advised that the hotel is in a pedestrian only area so we were told we would be given driving access instructions the day before arrival. We never did and getting there was a huge hassle. Our room was OK but we hated the bathroom. The shower is the absolute worst one we‘ve ever had anywhere. I guess it’s designed to be in period but it’s in the tub and has a semi circular rod with a linen shower curtain that confines you in a small space with the plumbing pipes and controls intruding into the small space. As if that isn’t bad enough it’s totally open in the back, plus the soap, shampoo, etc. is on a ledge outside so you have to open the shower curtain to get at them and water goes everywhere. The WiFi log-in is ridiculous and is not only slow but kept losing the connection. The windows don’t open as we found out and when trying to close they catch on the curtains. We also found some of the staff to be quite unfriendly and certainly lacking any semblance of hospitality. Having said all this the location is great and if we were to return to Montpellier we’ve would likely stay here as it’s supposedly the best.

Unmatched Service, Stunning Venue, and True Hospitality I stayed at Hôtel Richer de Belleval about three weeks ago for just one night, and it left such an impression that I’m still talking about it. From the moment we arrived with my wife and parents, the hospitality was outstanding. They welcomed us warmly, gave us a beautiful room, and made sure every detail of our stay was perfect. The hotel itself is a masterpiece — a historical gem in an incredible location — but what really elevates the experience is their Michelin-star restaurant. The food was phenomenal, the setting breathtaking, and the entire dining experience unforgettable. Yet, beyond the location, history, and cuisine, what truly sets this hotel apart is the service. I accidentally left a pair of pants and a shirt in the closet. Three weeks later, they didn’t just forget about it — they called me to let me know they had been shipped to Spain for me. When the package was returned to them, they called again, still determined to get my belongings back to me. They’ve now followed up three separate times to make sure I’m taken care of. That’s not just customer service — that’s genuine care. They could have easily moved on, but instead they went above and beyond. If you’re considering this hotel, don’t think twice. This is an establishment that values its guests long after checkout. I will absolutely be back. Bravo to the entire team.

Impossible to communicate effectively with staff. The link to manage booking (to cancel) did not work on the website and I made several requests by email to cancel. They still charged me for a room (for twice the price of my original stay) that I did not stay in and that I refused to accept. I am happy to provide detailed correspondences, beginning four days before my original stay. My French friend called to help me sort it out and they still refused to acknowledge any responsibility in ignoring my requests to cancel.

We stayed at the hotel for 6 nights in a superior room. The whole experience was very good and I would thoroughly recommend the hotel and location to family and friends. The room was beautifully decorated and the marble bathroom was spacious. The bed was extremely comfortable with top quality bed linen. The Reception staff were very professional and friendly being polite and informative. It is a beautiful building with imaginative decoration. The meals are delicious.

This is a gorgeous hotel located in the center of Montpellier.||The staff is superb in every way. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with courtesy, warmth and great professionalism.||Our bedroom, with a fresco of angels, was stunning with an accompanying beautiful bathroom.||Dinner at Le Jardin des Sens was extraordinary. Every course was superb and the number of extra amuses bouches and mignardises was beyond generous.||I loved visiting gorgeous Montpellier and its great musical festival.||This was indeed a city of culture, music, history, and refinement.||The hotel was the perfect accompaniment.||Thank you for a wonderful stay.

The best luxury hotel in Montpellier! Very fancy with exceptional staff and service! Upon arrival, Antonio was waiting outside the front door to assist me with my luggage. He was genuinely kind and professional! The staff at reception were also incredible and my room was ample and very comfortable! The two restaurants on the property are also 5 Star! I will definitely return and recommend the hotel and restaurants for an unforgettable experience!

A truly beautiful hotel in a fantastic, quiet location on a charming square in Montpellier. The historic building is stunning, and the rooms are spacious, well-designed, and feature some of the most comfortable beds, duvets, and pillows we’ve ever experienced. The inner courtyard and the stylish bar are lovely spots to unwind, and the peaceful atmosphere adds to the overall charm. The staff responded well when we pointed out some housekeeping issues in our room, becoming much friendlier and offering us two glasses of champagne as an apology. While the overall cleanliness of the hotel was good and the public areas were spotless, we did find several additional hairs in the bathroom of our room, as well as a few other cleaning oversights. We also appreciated how the team quickly solved our Wi-Fi problem by providing a working password. Breakfast was decent, with a good selection, and the welcome drink was a sweet touch, though a less sugary option would be a nice improvement. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. The unique character of the building, the quiet yet central location, and the superb beds made our visit special. With a bit more attention to detail in housekeeping and continued improvement in service, this hotel could be truly outstanding. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a memorable stay in Montpellier!

Great location, very helpful and friendly staff, lovely looking hotel. However our room (room 5) was too dark. We asked for, and immediately received, an extra reading lamp for the desk, but the lovely chandelier over the comfortable sitting chairs was not bright enough to read. Yes, I know, we didn't go there to read, but we do read a bit while planning the next day.||We were very disappointed in the bistro food, which was odd as the big restaurant has an excellent reputation and the same kitchen prepares the food. Maybe we had an off night - it happens. Breakfast was more than fine.
