"From the private home of the Richer de Belleval family to the town hall, this historical monument in the heart of Montpellier has lived many lives before becoming a Relais & Château boutique hotel and contemporary art foundation, opening on July 6. Each of the 15 rooms and five suites at Hôtel Richer de Belleval feels like entering a monochromatic cabinet of curiosities festooned in rich velour and vivid works of art."

Staying at this hotel in Montpellier was an unforgettable experience for our family! From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable. The valet, Luic, navigated us effortlessly through the narrow streets, carried our luggage across charming cobblestone pathways, and welcomed us into a hotel that felt like a blend of modern luxury and whimsical charm. Upon arrival, we were greeted with warm towels—a small touch that set the tone for the entire stay. Check-in was seamless, taking place in a cozy lobby so elegant and inviting that “lobby” doesn’t do it justice. The atmosphere was unlike anything we’ve experienced—it felt like staying in a warm, vibrant art museum where the world’s elite might secretly gather. Every detail of the design was thoughtful, tasteful, and awe-inspiring. Our room was spacious, immaculate, and meticulously appointed. It had everything we needed and more, combining comfort with sophistication. Breakfast the next morning was exceptional, with every bite reflecting the same level of care and quality. The location of the hotel couldn’t be better—everything worth seeing was just a short walk away. We will absolutely return. This place didn’t just meet our expectations—it set a new standard.

This is quite a nice hotel. But it doesn’t deserve it’s Relais & Châteaux status. And it’s overpriced. The best feature is the Michelin-starred restaurant - very good food, decor and service. But the rest of the hotel is of lower quality. There are physical constraints - limited space and no garden. But there are simple things they’re not getting right. You can’t read in the bedrooms because there’s insufficient light. And there’s nowhere else comfortable in the hotel to sit down. The breakfast is ordinary - the one at the Palais Hotel round the corner is better and half the price. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful. But some have an air of arrogance and wanting to show off. Coordination between the 4 staff working in the (exquisite) bar at dinner time was poor. There seems a lack of good management overall in the place.

Best hotel across the board in all of Montpellier. While the building is of historical and cultural significance, the room are modern, I presume completely remodeled and modernized. Internet, plumbing, beds, air handling all perfect. Fantastic bar and restaurant, perfectly quiet in rooms. Maid service was impeccable. We ate early in the morning, and the restaurant played 70s funk quietly in the background. So cool.

The hotel is beautiful in the most beautiful square. The staff is exceptional in every way. The original artwork in the rooms is an added bonus. Special praise for Antony who went above and beyond to make our stay so memorable.

Second stay at this hotel . It’s a beautiful property and the staff make you feel utterly welcome as soon as you enter the building. It was my partners birthday and they not only upgraded our room , but left a beautiful welcome gift. Room itself was fantastic . Large , airy , good temperature, with high grade furnishings. One of the best beds we have slept in. Huge and comfortable . Wonderful linens . Everything spotlessly clean with that touch of luxury . Will definitely return

We stayed three nights in a superior room overlooking the park canorgue and street ( rue st Pierre) The room was well appointed and comfortable, as one would expect from this category of hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially upon arrival. We loved our exceptional tasting dinner at Jardin des Sens, the tapas and well made cocktails in the bar, and their very delicious buffet breakfast one morning. A couple of sour notes we experienced though- Unfortunately our room air conditioner did not ever work properly during our stay, and we were awakened by loud boombox partying in the square directly below our room in the middle of the night, two of the three nights we were there. This was probably just our bad luck and timing, but it’s definitely not what we expected during the most expensive stay of our 17 day vacation in the region. Overall however, the hotel is quite beautiful and nicely situated on the place Camargue, a charming small park with a unicorn fountain and a few cafes. Although we needed a taxi from and to the train station with luggage , we easily walked there from the hotel and back on the day we day tripped over to the seafront town of Sète. I appreciated the higher hill location, away from the busier Place de la comedie, but very close to the gardens, arc and the breezy hilltop plaza , place royale du Peyrou. I especially loved exploring the neighborhood from the cathedral over to the Fabre museum. Montpellier is a beautiful historic city to wander through and enjoy.

We stayed 4 nights here and found it to be one of the most pleasant stays we’ve had in France. Lovely scenic location, extremely helpful, friendly staff. We had the opportunity to experience a meal in the Bistro restaurant which was fabulous and of course handy to our room. Our room was quiet, spacious with a very comfortable bed. We slept well. Walking from this location in any direction you will be faced with old, quaint silent streets. 10 min walk from Comedie. We would stay again if we return to Montpellier.
