We came to Tremiti for the day June 3rd. Head the restaurant to ourselves because it is off season. This is the first time I’ve been on Tremiti island but I will go back. This time of year is wonderful because you do t have the crowds and the weather was perfect. The food was magnificent. I would stay at this hotel. The owner was wonderful. Gave us a ride from the boat to the tip top of the island. What a view!

We were really looking forward to staying at this hotel because we had paid a premium to be in one of the rooms with the little terrace overlooking the fabulous view of San Nicola island. When we arrived to the island by ferry all the other hotel shuttle buses were waiting except Hotel Gabbiano's. We had walked all the way up the hill towards the hotel before we saw it driving towards us. We accept that sometimes there are unavoidable delays but the driver loaded our bags without a word of greeting or apology. Not a great start. I would agree with retogisin75's experience that the the general attitude of the staff was not very welcoming; on the whole they gave the impression they were far too distracted by their work to put effort into acknowledging guests. The exception to this was a young lady who worked in the restaurant who offered bright and cheery greetings every day, and the cleaners who were friendly and very efficient (the hotel was very clean, if dated). When we booked we'd had the impression that the hotel was set away from other properties but this isn't the case and it can get very noisy at weekends (the first night we were there we were regaled by such delights as "rock around the clock" and the Beachboys' "Barbara" until 3am). Midweek it is quieter. The breakfast offered a basic choice of cereal, yoghurt, poor quality ham and cheese, bread and an array of Italian cakes that didn't always seem very fresh. No fruit was on offer but it seemed you could request fruit from the waiters (we bought ours from the local shop and ate that), we did request some tomatoes once, and noticed that an Italian guest requested salami. The coffee was very good and freshly made to order. We only ate dinner at the hotel once (reviewed on the restaurant section) and thankful that we didn't go half board because guests who chose that option were seated to the back of the restaurant (no lovely view then) and had to eat a limited choice within a one hour time frame. The islands are very beautiful, we will return but not to this hotel.

I came to Tremiti Island the last week of Sept., fresh off a plane from SFO to Rome. Took the bus from Rome to Vasto and spent a few nights in Vasto. Then I decided to take what I thought would be a day trip to Tremiti Island via the ferry from Termoli (the only one still running in Sept. as the others had shut down). ||||I immediately found the van shuttle at the ferry landing for the Hotel Gabbiano and decided to check out the hotel which I had read about online before my trip. Upon arriving, I was completely taken with the island and the hotel - in this gorgeous off season. The weather was warm, the beaches almost deserted, and the beauty and charm of the island perfect. I would not want to be there in season (too hot, too crowded, too loud, I'm sure) but in this time (late Sept.), it was all glorious.||||I stayed at the hotel for 8 nights in the end...a perfect place to relax. I was traveling solo and the family running the hotel could not have been more hospitable to me. I feel now like I have family on the island. Everyone was very helpful to me. Very very few Americans come here (they're all over at the Amalfi coast) so it was a great opportunity to just be, quietly, in a beautiful place.||||The hotel was gracious, gorgeous, and very classy. I think it's the best place to stay. A number of weddings take place (esp. on weekends - beware of the noise), but aside from that (and I did enjoy a number of aspects of the wedding party) I cannot say enough about the great hospitality I enjoyed here. In season, however, it may be noisy, as the whole island is pretty much invaded with visitors.||||I took the option of eating on the meal plan; some of the dinners were fabulous. The pasta portions were overly large - you should plan accordingly. Some of the fish meals were excellent.||||The owner Gino and his family were so very very kind and took great care of me. Their hospitality is legendary and many clients come year after year both for the setting and the family.

We booked a couple of nights for a scuba diving trip. A quiet room is always a plus but that's too much to ask at Gabbiano. When I mentioned this at reception they said that room 103 is above the restaurant and under another room. They told us to deal with it. Felt like someone was moving furniture from 07 AM to midnight. Nothing could be done about it. They advertise quiet rooms. Not quiet, at all.||The hotel management do not speak any other language than Italian. Some of the staff speak a little English. The nicest people working at Gabbiano are the lady from housekeeping and the breakfast lady, she speaks perfect Spanish. The other people act like they are here against their will. The breakfast is lousy. It is complementary so I guess they want to save on quality. The omelette tray remains empty until you ask to fill it. The management will then ask you how many eggs you want even if the restaurant is full. As if the other guests wouldn't want some eggs in the morning. When we arrived from the ferry from Vieste around noon we were told a car would be waiting for us. Noone was there, called the hotel. They then sent a car. Had mailed the arrival time a day ahead. They responded, still never bothered to send a car.|| Tried to have lunch after we got here. They gave us a table, never told us lunch started an hour later. . Just left us hanging. Had to ask what the serving times were using my phone. The food is overpriced, the lady serving us couldn't care less. Never even got bread, olive oil, nothing. Until I asked why and then they gave us some. ||Today I aked for a bill and management had to call staff because they couldn't understand. Before paying I asked if I could get a receipt with my VAT number on it and it was no problem. After paying they made another scene. Ended up writing down my VAT on a receipt because all of a sudden it was not possible anymore. Felt like spending five days at Fawlty Towers. Would not recommend, at all ...

From the terrace of the Hotel Gabbiano on the island of San Domino, Tremiti Islands archipelago, there is a view ecstatic on the Abbey of Santa Maria in the sea, (dating from 1059) which stands||overlooking the island of St. Nicholas. This just about location, is a family-run hotel, but always careful to update the structure and the service has been correctly added a small Spa with sauna, turkish bath and jacuzzi. I have stayed several times and in different periods of the year in this ||nice hotel, last week I had dinner there, (a good rule book); I found the seafood entrees, ||also raw, and we waited we were preparing a Fragolino fish with potatoes, delicious, desserts, unfortunately, have never been the final pearl.||About the wine I noticed a careful selection of grapes from the Apulia not easily be enjoyed in other parts of the territory. On the island is a three-star hotel that stands out.

We stayed in three rooms looking out towards the neighbouring island (worth a visit!) with balconies - all en suite and very respectable. Nothing flash but clean and comfortable. Helpful staff who picked us up at the port.
