I stayed at RIU Montego Bay July 18-22 and had one of the most disturbing experiences I've ever encountered at a resort. I usually go to Sandals resorts but I was attending a birthday celebration for a close friend. On the evening of July 20th, a guest tried to break into the room that I was sharing with my cousin. After yelling several times through the door that he had the wrong room he proceeded to urinate on our door and the urine came into our room all over our floor. He also defecated directly in front of our door. We were terrified and disgusted.|After about 20 minutes of reporting it, security finally showed up and removed the man from our doorway, but they allowed him to go back to his room with no real visible consequences. The next morning, I spoke with the manager who told me she "had no authority to compensate me" and offered no solution beyond mopping the mess, not even a real sanitizing of the floor.||I then contacted RIU's corporate office, expecting a more professional response. Instead, they told me they are "not liable for guest behavior" and pushed me off to the booking site Agoda. This is absolutely unacceptable. Regardless of how the booking was made, this incident occurred on RIU property, involved another RIU guest, and reflected a clear failure in guest safety, sanitation and follow up. ||There was no offer of a refund or even a sincere apology. The only reason we were able to switch rooms is because went to the front desk and insisted that they change our room because we no longer felt safe and we were disgusted. I've stayed at resorts across the Caribbean often, for many years and have never been treated with such disregard after something so serious.||If you're looking for a relaxing and safe vacation in Jamaica, I strongly urge you to reconsider this resort. RIU Montego Bay has serious accountability issues, and guest safety is clearly not a priority.
