Great hotel all around! Hotel is in a great location as its close (as in walking distance) to a lot of restaurants and shopping in the main area of La Fortuna. Rooms were nice sized and had nice patio with two rocking chairs and hammock. Rooms included decent size fridge and an AC unit that worked a heck of alot better than some other CR hotels I stayed at. Nice hotels grounds with ton of flowers/trees and no shortage of birds flying around and an occasional lizard. Secure parking with a gate that is closed at night but able to be accessed with security code during night hours. Staff was friendly with lots of personality! Breakfast wasn't included but was decently priced so is a convenient option. They had free coffee area where you brewed it yourself. Nice game area with pool table and ping pong table and average but very well-kept pool. As you can probably tell, very happy with hotel and any criticism was super minor.

Such a beautiful spot! Lots of greenery, birds and quiet. Staff was super friendly, rooms were clean. Good location, close restaurants and town. I missed the fine print when I booked but it has to be paid in cash if you do reserve pay later. There is a bank in town but it was busy. They take dollars or colones and let us pay at the end of our stay. They have a 24 hour coffee and tea spot inside, which is perfect for sitting on the rockers outside your front door.

A really lovely hotel with super friendly (and hilarious) staff. Very well located in La Fortuna. Breakfast was lovely as well. Rooms were clean and well maintained, and we had a great view of the volcano. The gardens were lovely and full of wildlife (and the hotel's own ducks, dogs, peacocks and geese). Our favourite hotel from our entire 2 week trip.

Our family of 5 loved our stay at Roca Negra. The gardens are spectacular and the casitas are all spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Elisabeth the manager is a wonderful, funny host who we all enjoyed so much. She can book tours and arrange excursions, often at a better price than what you'll find on your own. My teens didn't use the pool much but we all enjoyed evenings at the games area playing pool. The breakfast at $7 is great too. We happened to stay in the 2 cabins closest to the highway (#10 and #11), which were a bit noisy. So request a casita further from the road if you can.

This place is a lovely charming refuge that is within walking distance of downtown Fortuna. Staff were delightful. Rooms were spotless. Breakfast fast and delicious with great choices. Sheets smooth, cool and soft. Bed was perfect for me. The grounds were a huge selling point when I shopped for accommodations and they did not disappoint. Lush tropical oasis full of birds and color. Fully walled and gated was a nice surprise. Only suggestion: the door to my cottage could not be set to an unlock position. My traveling companion locked herself out of the room about five times. Highly recommend!

This was overall a great stay, but I had a few niggles that stopped it from being a full 5-star experience compared to other places we stayed in Costa Rica.||The pros:|The location is excellent, and the staff are welcoming and professional. The gardens are beautiful and make for a wonderful place to sit in the evening. The property is well maintained and very clean.||The niggles:| • The air conditioning is poor — it would honestly be better and easier to just have a fan.| • The bathroom is very tired and dated. I get that in Costa Rica it’s common to have a more old-fashioned style, but this felt a bit much.| • The television is pointless: no foreign language channels and poor reception. Now, don’t get me wrong, you don’t come to Costa Rica to watch TV, but it’s nice to have access to multi-language news channels just to stay updated — especially as the Wi-Fi is really bad. This isn’t acceptable, as you do need reliable Wi-Fi to plan day trips, road journeys, etc. We stayed in far more rural areas and had much better internet elsewhere.| • The walls are paper thin, so you can hear absolutely everything.| • I love the eco stance, but unplugging the fridge is annoying — it takes hours to cool back down and in the end, we gave up using it.| • The lighting is dreadful: either really poor bedside lights or a blinding floodlight-style LED main light.||I know it sounds like a lot of negatives, and honestly, it was a great stay. But these little issues do add up, and when comparing it to other properties of similar or even cheaper prices that we stayed at during our road trip, I do think they need to tighten up a bit.||That said, I would still recommend staying here.

Absolute joy to stay here. Waited up to check us in from late flight, warm reception from staff and lots of information given. Gorgeous grounds, delicious breakfast, comfortable rooms and excellent location to walk into centre in 20 mins.

We stayed for only 2 nights here, and we are so glad we did. Simply put- it's stunning! El on reception was wonderful. Very accommodating and extremely friendly. ||Our room, and the entire place was spotless. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. ||The pool and jacuzzi were immaculate, and the outside restaurant was in a beautiful spot. ||The best thing for me was the nature. I've never seen so many birds! Within half an hour of sitting on our terrace, I saw at least 15 different species- including hummingbirds. There were loads!!!!||The area is full of activities to do and there are plenty of restaurants and supermarkets. ||I highly recommend staying here!||Thank you for making our honeymoon special!
