We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a group tour of Switzerland. The first room that we were allocated was a tiny room next to the lift. It was noisy as soon as we entered so we didn't unpack, instead asking at reception for a quieter room. Our next room was much bigger but next to the main road and adjacent to the housekeepers' office. Our first night was disturbed by loud traffic noise all night and staff in the office shouting and arguing at 6am. Before breakfast we went to reception to complain again, only to be offered a partial lake view room at a supplement of CHF20/night which we accepted. This room was much better: quiet with a lovely view across Lake Geneva. However, overall the hotel is dated and the service isn't of a 5-star standard. The three rooms that we had were all of an 80s style with metal external shutters and curtains that didn't draw (they were simply decorative only). Breakfast was very disappointing with a limited choice and slow service for coffee/tea. The included dinners with the group were all a set menu without any choice at all. One member of our group didn't eat fish which was the starter dish, so was offered a salad starter as an alternative for CHF16! Also the hotel is some distance from the centre of Montreux, which isn't a problem as the buses are free with the Riviera Card. But I think that there are better quality hotels in a better location in Montreux. Please avoid this dated overpriced hotel.

Pros: + Great location, looking over the lake with wonderful views. + Friendly and helpful staff. + Lovely restaurant menu and great cocktails. Cons - The rooms are pretty tired with broken blinds, phone not working, peeling paint in the bathroom etc. - Really odd automatic blinds that come down when the sun shines on the balcony. Our blind was damaged so when it came down, it completely blocked the view rather than just act a shade. - I don't think our room was properly made up - half of the tea and coffee set up was missing. A small point but when you're paying quite high rates, its not really good enough and dropped it from a 5 star review to a 4.

The Royal Plaza Montreux is a fantastic place to stay. The staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. They are always ready to help with anything you need. The hotel is in a great location, right by Lake Geneva, and the views are breathtaking. You can see the lake and mountains, which makes it a very relaxing experience. The rooms are very comfortable, especially the beds, which are soft and perfect for a good night’s sleep.Overall, it’s a wonderful hotel with great service, a perfect location, and amazing views. Highly recommended!

The room and the balcony are spacious and the bathroom was clean with two sinks. The best part is the water pressure is strong especially good for winter time the heat is strong enough to keep you warm. The location also convenient to take bus to the Christmas market and the parking is available for 25 CHF per day as of 2024 November.

A great stay into the New Year. The Breakfast buffet is exceptional. The service is top class throughout the hotel. The rooms are very nice and suitable for a longer stay. A great view on to the Lake Geneva, which is a short walk away. The gym is good, and the wellness part very good.

The best thing this hotel has going for it is the wonderful view of Lake Geneva. If you're lucky, you can experience it from your hotel room balcony and watch the sunset in your bathrobe. The room was spacious and had a coffee maker but it was sparingly stocked. The bathroom has a double sink and nice toiletries; there is a bathtub, but the shampoo/body wash comes from a dispenser high on the wall so not very practical. There is a very small elevator; four people with luggage won't fit. There is a modern bar off the lobby which serves lighter fare until six o'clock; both it and Bellagio, where breakfast is served, are pared down, modern spaces (translate: charmless, like a cafeteria). Breakfast was adequate but there were no hot choices when we were there, and while prosecco was available, it came at a cost, which we did not expect from a 5-star hotel. Nor was there a shuttle to the train station, also a disappointment. The only smile we received came from a lovely man who was storing our luggage; he gave us some pointers about the walk to Chillon Castle and was very friendly. Everyone else was distinctly lukewarm. We were really looking forward to this stay in Montreux, but have to say that for the price, we can't easily recommend booking this hotel. Other 4-star hotels throughout Switzerland surpassed this.
