You Can Find Some of the Best Views of Lake Como at This Historic Hotel - Hotels Above Par - Boutique Hotels & Travel

"Set on the lakefront in Varenna on Lake Como, this elegant four-star property occupies an early 19th-century textile mill converted into a hotel in 1838 and named in honor of Queen Victoria, who visited during her reign. It has hosted European aristocracy, artists, and writers and blends historic charm with modern luxury: bright yellow accents in the lobby, a cobblestone entrance, picture-perfect lakeside gardens that come alive when the wisteria blooms, and terraces with sweeping views of the surrounding Pre-Alps (including Monte Grona, Resegone, Corni di Canzo, Grigna, Legnone and the Grignetta). Dining is a highlight — Visteria offers a fine‑dining experience with an eight-course preset menu or à la carte options like risotto, tortellini, steak and fish focused on local, seasonal ingredients and wine pairings, while Victoria Grill faces the main square and the terrace is ideal for coffee or cocktails. The hotel has 39 rooms divided into Classic (20 doubles overlooking the main square), Deluxe (eight doubles with lake views and French balconies) and Prestige (11 doubles with lake-view furnished balconies), plus two junior suites with terraces, large sofas and bathrooms with double showers and chromotherapy; a Spa Suite provides a private wellness experience for couples with a Finnish sauna, steam bath and color-therapy shower. Guests can unwind at the outdoor pool with sunbeds overlooking the lake, stroll the landscaped lakeside yard with direct water access, and easily explore nearby attractions such as Villa Monastero, Vezio Castle and the ferry terminal for day trips around the lake."

Absolutely wonderful||I can’t praise either this hotel or the location any higher. ||The friendliness & service given from the staff at Royal Victoria is exemplary. The views from the restaurant & pool area are magnificent. The food is very good and the traditional feel of the decor and building is great too. ||The room was also lovely and always serviced & kept clean.||Varenna itself is just lovely. The perfect location to explore the lake. ||We will definitely be back.

Simply perfect. Even though we arrived before the official check-in time, our room was already ready, such a nice surprise. Upon entering the room, we were welcomed with a bottle of prosecco as a welcome drink, which was a lovely gesture. We stayed in a lake-view room, and we’re so glad we chose it. The view was like a fairytale. Amenities were sufficient and cleanliness was excellent. The only downside was that the usable space in the room was a bit limited. The pool area was wonderful. Relaxing under the sun with an Aperol in hand and the stunning view of Lake Como was a real highlight. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of both hot and cold options. The view made it even more enjoyable. Vegan options are also available. From reception and concierge to housekeeping and the doorman, every staff member was extremely helpful and always smiling. They also offered a shuttle service to the train station, which was very convenient.

Good shuttle service in an unusual vehicle we used for collection from station and drop off at ferry port.|Nice friendly welcome from reception staff including showing to room and help with luggage.|Room was small which we knew from description but with good sized comfortable bed. Bathroom also on small side. Everything was very clean and the lake view from the small balcony was exceptional being from a high position. One night completely unexpectedly there was a very good fireworks display in the lake right in front of the hotel which from our balcony was a great finishing touch to our stay as we were moving on the following day.|Breakfast was excellent with good choices and again great lake views which were the same from the bar where we had superb front line seats after dinner in the evening. The barman was very helpful and professional, a good asset to the hotel.|Pool was small and welcoming most of the time except once when peace was shattered with a large group of noisy guests taking over with drinks in the pool.

Great location right off of the town square. Beautiful hotel, very peaceful and romantic atmosphere. The deluxe Lakeview rooms are spacious and have amazing views. Rooms were very clean. Excellent breakfast. Food and service at the hotel restaurant, Victoria Grill, was very good. Staff was attentive to all of our needs and very helpful. Highly recommend asking the hotel to transport you in their little shuttle to and from train station rather than walking. Very easy to arrange this.

If you are doing a trip to Lake Como and this hotel works within your budget, BOOK IT NOW. From research it seemed like Varenna was the best place to stay, and I can confirm it definitely was. As far as where to stay in Varenna itself, you can’t beat this location. Easy walk to all the main sights, restaurants, and transportation options. Beyond location, the hotel itself was perfection. Stunning views and photo ops, incredible staff, it was clean, AC worked great, and food options were all a big win (breakfast was a highlight every day - don’t skip the freshly squeezed orange justice) and it was overall just a beautiful hotel. If I ever have the opportunity to come back to Lake Como, staying at HRV is a non-negotiable.

We stayed here for three days before our wedding in Lake Como and I LOVED our stay at Hotel Royal Victoria. The best thing about this hotel was the staff (HUGE shoutout to Marco the concierge for walking me to a restaurant to get reservations and my bartender pictured below). They went above and beyond for us. The rooms were a bit small, but the view from the balcony was unbelievable (pictured drinking wine on below). The pool and restaurants are excellent. Would definitely come back. They also have a private boat dock for private boat trips around the lake. So beautiful here!

Aziz was truly the standout of our entire weekend in Lake Como. He went above and beyond during our friend’s wedding—his attentiveness, charisma, and energy added so much warmth and fun to an already magical celebration. Even after the restaurants had closed, he made sure we were taken care of, bringing out late-night drinks with a smile and incredible service. The hotel itself is beautiful, but Aziz’s dedication and personality are what made the experience unforgettable. He’s a true gem and we’re all still talking about how amazing he was. Thank you, Aziz!

The defining elements of this hotel are its views and location on the lake edge, just a little way away from the crowds and within easy reach of the station (hotel free shuttle), ferry to Bellagio, right next to Il Giardino Botanico (free entry), and a 20-30 minute hike to Castello di Vezio.||A small, personal hotel with friendly staff, and an excellent breakfast with lake views. The hotel doesn't have the same Spa, gym, pool setup that we've experienced in comparable hotels but the location and views more than make up for this. That said, we were dissappointed that the outside bar and restaurant area overlooking the lake was open to non residents throughout the day. The adjacent pool area felt less private which concerned my wife - I didn't notice. On the flip side, anyone can pop in, buy a drink and experience the views.
