Hotel Bodega El Grifo, Mozaga, Lanzarote, Canary Islands - Explore & Book

"This elegantly rustic 18th-century house, known previously as the Caserio de Mozaga (the hamlet's farm estate), has been in the same family for 200 years. Old cart wheels lean against whitewashed walls, a chandelier hangs from the sitting room ceiling, and a rattan sofa waits in the shade of the cloister. There's a winery next door - one of Lanzarote's best - which is also in the Bethencourt family. You enter through smart gates into a peaceful courtyard which faces south to ensure one corner always gets the sun. Ornate guttering draws rain from the rooftops into the well, and the feel here is smartly rural, as if this was the house of well-to-do farmers (which it is). Woodwork is painted dark green, bougainvillea flames against white walls, and candles embedded in glass jars flicker at night. The 11 rooms and suites are traditionally decorated with original furniture and family antiques. Expect cast-iron beds, terracotta-tiled floors, old oil paintings and shuttered windows. Some rooms open onto the courtyard, others onto the lovely garden, both dotted with places where you can sit back and relax. Best of all is the restaurant. The food here is glorious and those who wish to feast like a king will be in heaven. Highs Good food in the on-site restaurant; it’s one of the best in the area The age-old beauty of the place, especially the central courtyard This feels like (and is) an old family home, run with an easy charm and plenty of personal furnishings We loved the hushed, elegant ambiance; like being welcomed into the summer residence of a Canarian aristocrat The central setting - ideal for exploring Lanzarote's beguiling mix of wistful landscapes, volcanic peaks and jaw-loosening beaches Lows No swimming pool, but beaches are easily accessible by car Breakfast is a fairly simple spread The chef has changed since our last visit, but feedback remains excellent The rooms are refined and comfortable but rather basic - stay elsewhere if you want 5-star luxury Not recommended for families with energetic children who might disturb the tranquility, nor for those seeking nightlife" - Tom Bell

We stayed at this beautiful hotel for 5 nights. The room was extremely comfortable, and communal areas were beautiful. A lovely buffet breakfast was served each morning, and we ate in the reataurant a couple of nights. ||Plenty of space to sit, read, and relax both inside and out. Everything was clean. The gardens were excellently maintained.||All of the staff we met were helpful and professional. The charming owner gave us some great recommendations of places to visit. This really is a beautiful hotel in a wonderful.part of Lanzerote.

We recently stayed at Caserio de Mozaga for three nights. As soon as we entered we knew we were in for a treat. The gardens and terraces are very authentic and adorned with flowers in every nook and cranny alongside many areas for sitting or sunbathing and soaking up the tranquil environment. Our suite was the ideal blend of original features, modern and comfortable facilities and views of the surrounding countryside to die for. We enjoyed a pleasant evening in the restaurant which serves good quality food in an ambient environment. We hope to come back again and would highly recommend this rural haven in the midst of a local community.

A very pleasant long weekend stay at a traditional Canarian farmhouse dating from the 18th century. The property comprises a small number of clean and simple bedrooms arranged around two adjoining courtyards. The courtyards are a peaceful haven, with areas sheltered by trees (and a hammock) together with a sun terrace. There is a comfortable sitting room for common use of all guests. Breakfast is taken in the adjoining Caserio de Mozaga Restaurant, which also offers excellent dinner meals (see separate Trip Advisor entry). There is adequate off road carparking in a secure gated area.||Mozaga is perfect for independent exploring of the island. It is at the end of the wine route, with a number of excellent vinyards/wineries (bodegas) in close proximity. It is also very easy to access Teguise (don't confuse this with the holiday resort if Costa Teguise), which was the old capital of Lanzarote. It is also easy to access the wonderful walker-surfer beach at Farmara (unlike the other tourist beaches this windy one is north facing with views across to Graciosa, and perfect for a long stroll).||Because it doesn't have a swimming pool, Caserio de Mozaga is unlikely to attract families with children... This property is therefore perfect for independent adult travellers (couples or singles). It offers a charming, simple, clean, quiet and comfortable stay.||We would certainly book here again. Highly recommended.

I can't recommend this hotel enough if you are looking to get away from it all on your holiday to Lanzarote. It's a hidden gem and a great location in the centre of the island so easy access to everything if you have a car / taxi. An old farmhouse stunningly renovated - rustic but still very chic with amazing antique furniture in every room. I stayed in the suite which had a large bedroom and good storage, as well as large bathroom with walk in modern shower and cute living room which can easily sit 5 or 6 people. Breakfast is tasty and you must book at least one dinner in the restaurant. The owners are super helpful and can help you plan your trip around Lanzarote, so you avoid the tourist traps and see the beautiful island. Still water is free as is coffee and tea and biscuits throughout the day from the communal living room. The gardens are beautiful - set in the volcanic rock and ash and protected from the wind if you want to relax or sunbathe on the sunbeds. Thanks for a great stay, I really hope to return one day.

Lovely, peaceful & friendly small hotel with a good restaurant. Comfortable bedroom & access to an understatedly elegant salon & terrace/gardens. In a small village (with a fun bar/restaurant) and well situated for visiting the island by car. We really enjoyed our stay & feel well rested. Thank you!

An absolutely fabulous hotel - beautiful inside and out, the staff could not have more pleasant and helpful and the restaurant was excellent. On the night that the restaurant was closed, we walked to Teleclub in Mozaga, no frills, very popular with the locals and superb food.

Had a relaxing stay here in room 11. The owner was very accommodating and welcoming. The restaurant (separate business, but on the premise) was fantastic, with a great view. We also had a nice time at the Teleclub, 10 mins walk away. Recommended!
