Where to Stay in Paris: The Best Affordable Hotels

"A colorful boutique hideaway in Saint-Germain-des-Prés that revels in exposed brick, bold geometric textiles, and lively accent furniture across 30 rooms ranging from compact Cocoon units to larger Prestige suites. The property feels exuberantly maximalist rather than minimalist, and while it lacks an extensive wellness area beyond a privatizable jacuzzi, it provides strong value and direct-booking incentives like multi-stay discounts." - Sophie Dodd Sophie Dodd Sophie Dodd is a travel, wine and lifestyle writer.  Travel + Leisure Editorial Guidelines

Hotel Saint Andre des Arts, St Germain des Pres, Paris, France - Explore & Book

"Saint-Germain-des-Prés has been the favourite hangout of Paris's trendy youth and creative community for decades, loved for its independent bistros, boutiques and artisanal vibe. Behind its 18th-century façade, Saint André des Arts conceals a suitably colourful character. The group behind one of our favourites in Paris, Hotel Baume, enlisted interior designer Chloé Nègre to revive this former artist's residence with the feel-good power of nostalgia. She skilfully used the spirit of the 1960s and '70s, a golden era in colour, music and design, to create this unconventionally cool hotel. Move over Scandi-chic - these playful pop-art interiors are for the maximalists, and you won’t find a flat-pack within these walls. The 30 pristine bedrooms are decked out in bold colours, clashing patterns and pieces of iconic designer furniture; bright orange Tam Tam stools by Henry Massonet and the signature cylindrical side tables of Anna Castelli Ferrieri are just the start. But it’s by no means style over substance: beds are sumptuously comfortable, modern amenities come as standard, and quiet rooms (even above the street) guarantee a great night's sleep. There’s a soft rock-and-roll soundtrack throughout, an underground spa to relieve your senses, and an elegant sage green breakfast room/bar to start and end your day in. And in between? You’re a short walk from the Louvre, Notre Dame and the Seine, and perfectly placed to sample the city’s famed cuisine and café culture. Highs Location: situated in a buzzing central neighbourhood that Parisians love, and close to the main sights The tranquil Wellness Area in the cavernous stone cellar is heavenly after a full day of sightseeing Staff are friendly, professional and eager to help with your trip itinerary We loved the little extras: warm sweet treats on arrival, handmade chocolates in the room, a hotel-branded travel bag on departure There are cosseting rooms for 2 or connecting suites for families; everyone is welcome Lows There are uneven floors throughout this old building, so watch your step They only serve breakfast; for the rest of your meals you've got Paris' gourmet delights on the doorstep The bold retro theme won't be to everyone's taste, but we love how unique it is Only two rooms (a Superior and a Deluxe) have bathtubs" - Alice Tegg

Everything about our stay here was nothing short of spectacular. Our “classic” size room was plenty big enough for my wife and I, the bathroom was surprisingly spacious and the shower was beyond fantastic. The decor was so thoughtful and chic-homey while not overpowering the history and charm inherent in the space. Every member of the staff was so warm, friendly and helpful. We stayed in August during a heat wave - the double-paned windows and AC kept us cool and quiet as can be. The location in the 6th can’t be beat. We were celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary and they had a lovely note waiting for us in the room to make us feel right at home. Thank you so much to the entire staff at Hotel Saint-André des Arts for a spectacular and memorable stay!!

This is our second time staying at this hotel, and this time for a 4-night stay to celebrate our honeymoon. The hotel is perfectly located in the heart of Saint-Germain, in what is undoubtedly the best location one could ask for. It’s a charming boutique hotel with spacious, spotless rooms, a warm and welcoming staff, and a wonderful breakfast. We would especially like to thank the hotel manager, who kindly took the time to speak with us – a gesture we truly appreciated. We’re already looking forward to coming back again soon. It’s simply impossible not to give this hotel a perfect rating.

Fantastic location; gorgeous rooms. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the hotel was so quiet. Location is superb; everything you could possibly need is right outside. We loved our stay here in mid-July so much so that we’re coming back for our honeymoon!

Google
We enjoyed the service and hospitality at this hotel. Everyone working there was so pleasant and helpful. The amenities were great with umbrellas, waters, and converters available all of the time. The room was a King Superior and definitely was tight given that we stayed for 5 nights and had a weeks worth of luggage. There were very few places for luggage or to store things, but the bed was large and comfortable and the bathroom was very nice. I think the room would benefit so much from more storage space. The location is absolutely amazing and could not be any better. The area is so lively and fun at night with gorgeous pubs and restaurants surrounding it in every direction. Notre Dame and the Saint Michel Metro are a quick and safe 5 min walk from the hotel which made it so easy to access and get all around the city. The RER B train to the airport is also located in the same short walk as the metro making is so convenient to access the airport. This hotel is overall beautiful and so much fun. I would highly recommend it for a couple traveling to Paris !

A lovely Hotel with a beautiful style. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the location is perfect for exploring the city with great near-by dining options also. We would stay here again without hesitation.

The rooms are small but with a trendy retro feel and very good housekeeping. Location is superb in the heart of Saint-Germain with some great dining experiences in the alley way opposite (Brasserie des Pres, Le Procope , etc) and surrounding streets. Check-in and check-out staff were both friendly and helpful. We would stay there again.

Exceptional Stay in the Heart of Paris! We had an absolutely wonderful experience at this hotel. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, going above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome. The rooms were spotless, modern, and very comfortable. Every morning began with a delicious breakfast—fresh, varied, and satisfying. Best of all, the location is unbeatable—right in the heart of Paris, with easy access to major attractions, charming cafés, and metro stations. For the quality and service, it was also great value for money. Highly recommended!

Google
Watch out! They may cancel your reservation last minute and move you to an inferior hotel with no compensation. We received an email just one day before arrival—our room was canceled, and we were placed in a cheaper hotel nearby. Although the staff was kind, the hotel’s policies wouldn’t allow them to book us into any other hotel, they couldn’t guarantee even a partial refund or an upgraded room at the other hotel, and the only compensation offered was a free breakfast. This was supposed to be our anniversary trip, and we were forced to stay in a hotel we wouldn’t have chosen. Truly disappointing and unethical business practice.

Yelp
So much to say here. There are not a lot of reviews here but a friend and I went with our gut instincts and booked nights here simply based on the retro vibe/decor we loved about this hotel, just from looking the photos online. It truly did not disappoint. Immediately upon checking in, we realized this is a PRIME part of town. 6th Arrondissement is SO vibrant, with so much action right out the doorstep. My stay was extremely comfortable: nice, clean, comfortable room and felt safe there 24/7. Service was impeccable: Charles check us in, and we interacted with Antoine in the evening. Both fantastic. Charles actually directed me to one of the best dinners I've had in quite awhile: Le Colvert just down the block. Also, even prior to our arrival, the hotel management reached out with a questionnaire via e-mail to see if we needed any recommendations in the neighborhood, which they swiftly provided. It was a nice touch. We were pleasantly surprised with how wonderful breakfast was as well. We opted for the Formule Complete which was fresh and delicious, and service was great too. All the amenities you would expect from a hotel, but with the intimate charm that comes with a boutique hotel. I don't think I'll ever go back to a large chain hotel when traveling. To the entire staff of Hotel Saint-Andre des Arts, thank you for making the first half of my trip to Paris so wonderful. 3 nights of bliss and comfort. I will definitely return.

Yelp
Absolutely charming 4 star hotel in the heard of Saint Germain. Staff was lovely. Rooms clean - we had a family room in the mezzanine so no elevator, but our bags were carried up when we arrived, and down when we left. The hotel is eclectic. The "lobby" is like a small living room with a record player and vinyl records and there is always a pitcher of water with citrus fruit in it; the colors and decoration are evocative of the 1960s; they do have music playing and it's all the great songs and rock groups from the 1960s. Breakfast is a buffet and acceptable. I didn't see any of the rooms in the main part of the hotel (which has an elevator). The draw here is service, location, and a wonderful level of nostalgia. Sorry folks, no photos.

Yelp
I booked this hotel with realistic expectations, knowing there was no elevator and that the building is quite old. Even so, we were incredibly disappointed by the poor upkeep and unclean conditions. Our first night was fine; we requested a lower level room and were placed on the second floor (up two levels of a crooked, narrow, steep staircase). We were surprised to find that although I was told there was air conditioning, there was not. On the second night, we returned to the hotel to find that our room had no electricity. I went to the front desk, and was told that they knew there was no electricity in our room. Why didn't they tell us when we got our key? Why didn't they attempt to fix it? A cultural difference, I know, but nothing was done to remedy the situation until I asked. I was told nothing could be done, but they could move us to a 3rd floor room the next night. They offered to move us to another hotel for just that night, but the difficulties of moving back and forth with no help stopped us. They didn't even have a flashlight to lend us for the night. The next day, however, there were leaking pipes in all the 3rd floor rooms, and the only available room was on the 4th floor. I have one weak knee, and the help I was promised moving our luggage up the two additional floors never appeared. When we got the key, it was bent and didn't work. It was the only key the staff had for the room, and we could not lock our room for two days until a manager finally arrived at the hotel and located another key. There was dust under the beds, the dressers and tables weren't wiped clean upon arrival or daily, and we had an issue with some type of biting insect in our 4th floor room. It looked to me like spider bites; very itchy, red and painful. All carpets were incredibly filthy. The hotel did adjust our rate because of all the problems, but I'm unsure if was adequate compensation; for a more sensitive traveler, all this could have ruined a trip. I used it as a teaching moment about cultural differences and smiled, but the truth is that my kids and I dreaded returning to this hotel at the end of each long day. Keep in mind: no air conditioning. No elevator. No televisions, radios or even clocks in the rooms.

Yelp
I found this place via TripAdvisor, and it worked out pretty well. All in all, a good stay for a good price. The hotel is within short walking distance of several stopping points: the Seine, Notre Dame, the Louvre, Shakespeare & Co., and Luxembourg Gardens are 10 to 15 minutes away by foot. It's also a short walk to the Saint-Michel metro stop, from which you can get pretty much anywhere. The hotel is not in the quietest area, if that's what you're looking for: there is a bar next door, and rue St-Andre-des-Arts and the nearby streets are all pretty active at night. On the other hand, you are down the street and around the corner from a lot of cafes, wine bars, shops, and restaurants. The rooms are of good size and pretty clean. The stairs can be a little steep. There is a simple but satisfying breakfast service: rolls, jam, butter, coffee, tea. It's enough to get you ready for some walking. Plus, the lobby isn't very large, so you get to meet some of the other people from the hotel (if you want). The front-desk workers are engaging and helpful--we spoke with them almost every time we went through the lobby. They were attentive, and when random people showed up (like some drunk girls who thought they got to the bar next door by walking up the hotel stairs), whoever was at the front desk immediately approached them. It made us feel more comfortable that the hotel was safe. The rest of the staff was also very nice.

Yelp
Staff are nice , as was the breakfast. I stayed there 4 times.. Summer, rooms are hot but they have fans.. Street is very noisey , so it is best to stay on week days than week ends. Rooms are nice.. I understand they are renovating hotel, so another landmark hotel will become expensive and less character.. oh well

Yelp
First let me apologize for not taking a picture of this little place. I meant to, I really did! Maybe it's because every time I came/left I had had too much wine. Maybe. This is an adorable, adorable little place tucked in a random location that has an amazing vibe. Love, love, loved the neighborhood (as well as the hotel). You can't really book this place online, you've gotta give them a ring. They are a little stuck in the non-internet age... but that's what makes it so cute. The rooms are small, but quiet. They have a decent shower, decent bed and pillows, and decent breakfast (which is included and set up in the main reception area in the mornings). There are some great restaurants nearby and the metro is just a couple blocks away. For sure I'd recommend this place to anyone going to Paris - and will definitely book again next time I'm in town. Hope it's soon... missing Paris already (maybe not the prices).

Yelp
A little gem nestled in the heart of the Latin Quarter. It's a lovely historic building near excellent restaurants in the vicinity. It is within walking distance to 2 of the most famous bistros in Paris, "Les Deux Magots" and "Café Flore" near the Saint-Germaine-des-Pres. A great location to revisit where the writers and artists of the "Lost Generation," such as Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein, George Antheil and Man Ray spent a great deal time. It's also near the Musée D'Orsay that is housed in an impressive Beaux-Arts railway station and Notre Dame Cathedral. The hotel has a warm family feel to it. The rooms are big with high ceilings, and exposed original beams. It is a very old building with no elevator. Still the hike to your room is bearable. It is a great value for the Latin Quarter. You should be paying a lot more to stay in this area of Paris.

Yelp
I had the amazing opportunity to visit Paris France this year. My friend and I stayed at Hotel St. Andre. It is a quaint hotel that apparently housed the Musketeers at one point! Some say there are a few of their spirits still residing there. We were on the third floor - note there are no elevators! We worked off our daily ..yes daily...éclairs each day. The stairs are uneven and spiral up towards each floor. I loved the feel of the hotel - it just oozes history. Our bedroom had two double beds, a three piece bathroom and a little desk and wardrobe. They have free wifi and no tv - who needs tv while visiting Paris?! Our room was facing a tiny courtyard that was connected to the neighbouring building - you can get rooms that face the street but be prepared for the noise - people are out and about well into the night having fun. There is a simple continental breakfast each day that consists of fresh baguette and tea/coffee or hot chocolate. The baguettes are simply amazing...you wouldn't think that a few pieces of bread would fill you up but it sure does - we weren't hungry again until lunch. All of the staff is very friendly and most of them speak English really well - they can point you in the direction of tourist attractions and places to buy tickets if need be. The rooms are cleaned each day - not exactly cleaned perfectly - much dust under the beds - but they were tidy enough for me. The beds were surprisingly comfortable! I tend to hate the beds in hotels but I slept like a log each night ....maybe from jet lag ...not sure. It is just down the street from Starbucks and many delicious places to eat...best pizza i've ever had to be honest. This isn't a high class hotel by any means but for the price it was the perfect location and place to lay our heads each night. Thank you Hotel St Andre des Arts for the wonderful week!
