We had an amazing room with a private outdoor bath, which had constant hot spring water, and great view. The bathtub was just as hot overnight to the next morning. Plenty of amenities to try in the bathing area as well that we didn't use the public hotel baths. The room also came with the lounge access, which had a good variety of food and alcohol. If you are visiting Kusatsu as a couple, I'd definitely recommend having a private bath as mixed gender public baths are limited. The only downside, in my opinion, is the breakfast and dinner. It's all buffet, albeit a wide variety of food, in hindsight we would have preferred to skip it and explore the area instead.

The room was very clean and comfortable, and the Japanese-style decor was beautiful. The onsen was incredibly relaxing, and the buffet was delicious. Special thanks to the Western staff member at the front desk who helped our family of three with many issues. It was great to communicate easily in English!

Wonderful stay at Hotel Sakurai! The onsen was spacious and relaxing, with beautiful mountain views. The staff were welcoming and the traditional performances in the evening added a special touch. Great location—just a short walk to Yubatake. The room was clean and comfortable, and the food selection was excellent. Highly recommended for a relaxing onsen getaway! Note: It is worth adding kaiseki cuisine in the package. All the food they made were like art!!!.

We stayed in the renovated western room with some mountain. The room is spacious and the beds are comfortable. Went to the hot bath at B1, which was great. The indoor bath was warm and the outdoor one was hot. Skin became very smooth after taking the bath. The changing area is also newly renovated so it’s very comfortable and clean. It has also massage chairs area and rest by chair area. The meals are great! Very tasty and good selection of ingredients. This is a gem and a surprise given the first impression it’s more of the older style tourist hotel.

Large five-star onsen hotel. The hotel has English speaking staff for foreigner. Dinner kaiseki was nice and delicious. Onsen was large and nice. Room was comfortable and clean. The hotel has traditional show at the hallway in the evening which was nice.

The place was comfortable and service was good. However we were dissatisfied with the check in time of 3PM and check out time of 10AM (which actually most of the hotels in Japan is the same but we expected more here). Our bus back to tokyo was at 2PM and we had no where to go from 10AM onwards as even the onsens are not available. The last shuttle bus down to the bus station in the morning was said to be at 10.15AM which was really rushed for us.

The location is just in front of you after you come off the highway into Kusatsu. Seems luxurious but not that much.

Large Japanese style family room was good, though the hard pillows were hard even by the standards of a traditional futon pillow. The hotel is large and overall the facilities are good, even if there is a somewhat North Korean vibe to the very large public areas and decor.||Baths were functional, but the water is excellent especially in the small outside bath which is very sulphurous. Food was rather average given the cost. Dinner is a combination of items from the buffet (which were fine if you got them when freshly prepared) and shabushabu made at the table. Breakfast was rather chaotic, but that might have been a function of the large group of tourists from China that were staying at the hotel.||Overall, a decent if slightly institutional onsen.

Yelp
Short Story: A great onsen experience! Long Story: We stayed here for one night to have an onsen experience. We were not disappointed. We got a room with a private onsen and the temperature was really hot! The employees there are super friendly. They help you take your luggage to your room. They also provide you with the clothing necessary to walk around the town there. The food (both dinner and breakfast) are fantastic! It feels like it was made by hand. The portions seem endless and we both could not finish. The room is pretty sizable and you do sleep on a mat which is on the floor. The private hot spring is a good size for 2 people. Outside the hotel there are shops and restaurants to visit as well. Verdict: I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
It's a beautiful and sometimes pricey hot springs resort. Hard to complain. Hotel will cater to your needs. Three baths from two different sources. Nice outside views on at least two of them. Meals are often in your room. Close to the center of the area. A two minute walk. Our room had a bath in it which kicked the price up bit was worth it in the end even though rooms are close to bath entrances. Definitely a more upscale hotel for the area.
