We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Saltus and would 100% recommend. We are already planning our next visit! |We came across the hotel via a Google ad (I presume my phone had worked out I liked trees, mountains and spas) and it was perfect for us. |From the start our expectations were exceeded when we emailed reception to ask about getting a transfer from Bolzano airport and Lena proactively offered to arrange for some supper to be delivered to our room, as the restaurant would be closing around the time we arrived in the evening. We really appreciated this and it meant our holiday got off to a great start. |We stayed in a standard room which was like a spacious, heavenly tree house. None of the normal clutter that you find in most hotel rooms (mirrors everywhere, furniture you don't use etc.). Just a relaxing, muted design and a spectacular view of the treetops, hills and mountains. The room was also practical with plenty of storage, a well thought-out bathroom/shower area etc. |We hadn't told anyone it was my birthday but they must have figured it out from our check-in information and a card and chocolate had been hung on our door. |The restaurant was a highlight. The a la carte service at breakfast and dinner was very efficient, fast and friendly and the food was delicious. We would recommend the half board option - we booked bed and breakfast only in advance as we wanted to keep our options open but ended up dining in the restaurant every night because it was so lovely. (I'm not sure if there are other options in the village as we didn't look into this). It would probably have been a bit more cost-efficient to have had the half board but regardless we felt the food was great value. |The staff were all very kind and eager to help whilst also giving us space to relax. |Another highlight was the forest bathing led by Hedwig, one of the owners. The experience was so thoughtfully put together: basically a series of guided meditations in the woods to evoke a sense of inner peace and connection to nature. Very understated. I can imagine it would be enjoyable and accessible to even those who are new to things like yoga and meditation. |The infinity pool was wonderful also.|We didn't have a car with us but were able to go on plenty of stunning hikes starting from right outside the hotel. Within minutes you can be up in the hills without a soul around you and only the sounds of cowbells. The nature is incredible and we were excited to see some stunning wildlife such as hummingbird hawk moth and red squirrel.|We were given a free transport pass by the hotel which we used to get the bus to Bolzano to explore the town and it also gave us free access to museums. We loved going to see Otzi, the ice mummy that is 5,000 years old and was found perfectly preserved nearby, great for archaeology geeks like us and also unexpectedly moving. |The only piece of constructive feedback would be related to the warmth of the communal areas in the hotel. I understand and respect the decision not to have AC due to environmental reasons. I feel the heat very easily although this is a matter of personal preference. Even in late September the restaurant and lobby areas were too hot for me and quite uncomfortable and would benefit from opening doors/windows to let the breeze in. For this reason we would probably not go back in the summer. This was not a problem in our room however as we could turn the heating off, open the balcony door and there was a screen to stop insects getting in. |Overall we were absolutely delighted with our stay and thank all the staff for taking such great care of us. |We will be back!
