Set in the heart of Lugano and near all the amenities you need - small grocery store, chocolatiers and amazing shopping. The structure is dated, but worth the sacrifice for location - don’t spend your time in Lugano in your room!Staff is super friendly and has great recommendations for food, tours and so much more. Would definitely stay again!

Rooms were a bit small and cheap. The bathrooms were very bad, the bathroom door was hard to close, there were ugly blue tiles on the bathroom wall, the shower was very small, the drain was very slow, the shower head was broken, the soap is cheap, there was mold on the ceiling, dirty sink and toilet, cheap finishes etc. The elevator was also very small, could fit maybe 3 or 4 people, so we just decided to use the stairs. Also extremely loud and wifi kept shutting down. I'm happy we only stayed one night because this would've been hell if we stayed for more than a night. At least the staff was kind and the food was ok.

We stayed at Hotel San Carlos from June 6-8. We went to the reception desk at 7:00am to ask a question, however, no one was there until 7:30am. We run into a hotel guest who was locked out of his room since 6:00am and did not have a phone so he asked us to call the after hours hotel number for him. We called 5 times and no one answered. When the hotel employee (a gentleman) arrived we explained the situation. He said he was on call and had not received any calls from us. He was very rude & dismissive. I called his number again while the hotel employee was there and it rang to his phone. On another, note we were told breakfast was served starting at 7:30. The first morning we showed up a little after 7:00am and the woman serving breakfast said she started serving at 7:00am. On last day when we had to catch a train there was no one serving breakfast and we were told that on Saturday it was 8:00am. Very poor communication. Also when eating breakfast all the electricity went out. The rooms were very run down also. We paid too much money for the value we received. The only thing that was good was it was centrally located.

The hotel have been chosen due to its price and location. The price is about 160€ per night including city tax. The location is very useful. I would also mention very decent breakfast with orange juice, yogurt accompanied by modern coffee-machine. |There’s a really big TV in the room with Netflix. Wi-Fi is well working.|But unfortunately that all about the advantages.|Further is more about the disadvantages..|The hotel definitely needs a serious renovation. |I have never seen a ventilator operated by RC. The ventilator can suddenly switch on the light in the middle of the night.|Mattress is extremely soft. It’s recommended to change.|I’ve found the mold on the ceiling on the bathroom up to my surprise. See fotos.|Extremely noisy. A lot of noise comes from the pedestrian street as well as from the maid.|I wouldn’t recommend this property for relax staying.

A room was very small and lacked a fire alarm. When we asked they said it is not typical or compulsory in the hotel rooms there. Breakfast was average but the staff and location were superb! The location is perfect close to the lakeshore and shopping.

This unassuming hotel right in the heart of the shopping district of Lugano was an excellent value for expensive Switzerland. I was able to upgrade to a larger room than originally planned and it was still smallish but comfortable with a narrow view of Lake Lugano. The staff is very helpful and works hard to make sure their guests are comfortable.
