Hotel San Francisco was right where we wanted to be, downtown in the colonial section with the ability to walk to the squares. There had been some demonstrations in the area the week before and some of the police fences remained. We had to walk around them to the hotel and ring the doorbell. It was answered right away and we were ushered into this amazing hotel that was built so many years ago. I believe it is the fifth oldest building in Quito? It has alcoves, courtyards, paintings, and pots of plants. We found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating. They have a cooler in the lobby where you can purchase filtered water for a dollar. We were in a suite that was attractive with a Jacuzzi. As with all of the hotels that we have been to, you cannot put toilet paper into the toilet. There is quite a bit of road noise since it has an open courtyard, but we sleep with a sound machine app on our phone and we were not disturbed at all. There was a slight mildew smell in our room, but we thought that would be pretty normal for a city that rains so often and in an old building. We walked all the corridors and discovered the rooftop lookout. A beautiful view of the city during the day and night. In the morning, we were treated to a breakfast that was limited but nice located in the basement tunnels, which were used as a prison at one time, we ate yogurt, granola, eggs, rolls, jam, juices. We were quite satisfied. When we left to go to our next location, the staff were very willing to let us store our suitcases that day until we left in the late afternoon and this was a great help to us. outside the door of the hotel, we turned left and walked to the Square, through churches, cafés, stores, and to the presidents palace. It was a beautiful night and there were many families out on the plaza. It was a great stay. It was not opulent, but it was comfortable, interesting, clean, close to the area we wanted to be in, artistic, and priced right.
