This is a fine hotel for the budget traveler. We decided last minute to spend one more night in San Juan and found this after some quick research. Trying to find a hotel in a new city without a computer can be challenging and we weren't up for spending lots of time figuring it out. $80 for the night, last minute was fine by us.
Our room was clean and very, very, very basic. The first room we got didn't have windows, which kind of freaked me out. Luckily, the AC was broken in that room so we got to switch to a new room w/ a big sunny window and working AC. However, room two seemed to be directly above or behind a club so the music was thumping late into the night. Drink some rum and bring yer earplugs to guarantee a solid night of sleep.
Note at the beginning of my review, I used the word traveler not tourist...it's off the beaten path, outside of the main tourist areas of San Juan - which we loved. You have to be excited to walk around and not put off by rougher looking areas. We felt safe.
If you stay here, I'd highly recommend creating your own outdoor walking art tour and checking out the incredible murals and graffiti along Avenida Ponce de Leon. Head west along the avenida to Calle Duffat and treat yourself to an incredible dinner at Jose Enrique - enjoy the Plaza del Mercado while you wait. Afterward, stop into La Hoja for what was one of the most incredible dance and music experiences I've ever seen...it was around midnight on a Saturday when we popped in.
I loved San Juan and can't wait to go back! I'd stay in this hotel again, though would do some more research for comparable options first.
