Sant Pere del Bosc Hotel & Spa is a beautiful property operating far under its full potential, at least during our visit. The wooded, dusty drive up to this hotel was lovely as we gratefully left the loud and crowded Lloret de Mar behind. We had high hopes arising from the online photos and remote location of the hotel. Alas, those expectations were not to be met by this property or its staff. After a short drive up the rutted dirt track, we came upon the impressive structure revealing itself above the trees and looming over a small vineyard. It is hard to describe why we both sensed an odd heaviness laying over the stunning beauty of the property as passed through the metal gates. ||The receptionist was friendly enough. Although, as he explained the services and policies to us, he flipped from a couple seconds of slow english to large spans of very fast catalan, which left us not fully understanding a whole lot. The deluxe double room was smaller and less well appointed than the ones in the online photos. It was warm and had no real place for two to sit and relax. The window sill was high enough so that we could only enjoy the view while standing. The pool was lovely, but we found the sculptures at the pool and on the property a little artificial and unsettling. ||In addition, there seemed to be a strange disconnect between the kitchen and reception as if they were two totally separate entities. The main kitchen person was somewhat unreceptive to our questions, curt and kept referring us back to reception. Reception was very upbeat, but somehow spoke in a way that always left us slightly under-informed, if not confused. ||In the end, this hotel left us perplexed. It is remote in the middle of protected lands and yet still offers a distant sea view. It has a wonderful pool and the building is impressive. It is also close to nearby beaches and botanical gardens. With these impressive component parts, it has so very much potential, but from our perspective, it is dramatically falling short of its promise.
