Hotel Santa Caterina (Amalfi, Amalfi Coast) 13 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It’s the rare traditional-style hotel that really gets hearts racing, but the Santa Caterina is an absolute classic. Family-owned for the better part of a century, it sits high on a hillside facing the sea and the town of Amalfi — guests ride an elevator down to the hotel’s private beach, for the ultimate storybook Italian-coast experience." - Tablet Hotels

This one was sad for me to write, because it played a pivotal role in mine and my husbands love story. We stayed here 20 years ago when we were newly engaged, and decided to return for our 19th anniversary. The first thing I noticed was that the furniture in the lobby seemed very tired, dated and simply thrown together with little effort in design aesthetics. Once we spent an evening in the room, I soon discovered the many other areas that simply needed a refresh. The sink wouldn’t drain, the phones to reach room service or the front desk didn’t work, the tub stopper no longer worked and had to be pulled out of the tub for it to drain. I ordered room service one morning and they failed to bring silverware for me to eat my poached eggs. Since the phone wasn’t working, I had to dial the main line on my cell phone to then be connected to room service to ask them for silverware. The beds are quite firm, too much so for me. All in all, I was quite disappointed in the way this property is aging, or being maintained. Sadly, until they spent the substantial financial resource to update this property, it simply isn’t worth the price of the stay.

Absolutely stunning, we had a beautiful room, with gorgeous views and fabulous balcony. Service and food were all top notch. They attend to you, get to know you and make you feel relaxed and appreciated. We loved it and will be back.

Yelp
Lunch was delicious! Amazing caprese salad and lemon pasta. Also had the anchovies stuffed with mozzarella and fried with lemon mayonnaise. Staff was attentive and drinks were delicious. Staff at the beach club restaurant was much friendlier than the front desk.

Yelp
Hotel Santa Catarina is truly the best five star luxury hotel on the coast of Amalfi. The grounds are breathtaking. The staff is amazing and extremely professional. Thank you Gennarro for your 5 star concierge service. The Michelin star restaurant is beyond amazing, with chef offerings and delish presentations. The property is the most beautiful from all the luxury hotels in the area, we checked out a few and really made us happy that we chose Santa Caterina. Thank you Andrew and his amazing staff we cannot wait to return with our kids for another amazing stay.

Yelp
this is a beautiful property near amalfi town; you get what you pay for--an expensive five star hotel with perfect, friendly service, an amazing breakfast, a gym with a great view, a heated pool on the edge of the ocean; shuttle service to take you the 8 minutes down to the town of amalfi. only downside for our room (which was very nice) was looking out over the road--in addition to the ocean view, and hearing some horns from the buses rounding the sharp corners. looks like many rooms face the other side though. just be aware it can be pricey to take a taxi to nearby small towns (it was 130 euros for us to get to agerola). can take the bus or the ferry from amalfi. lots of restaurants in/around the town of amalfi though, and the hotel has two nice restaurants. again, can't say enough about the staff.

Yelp
View/setting a 5; wait staff, front desk, valets a 5; breakfast a 5; restaurant a 4; room a 3 (not just antique but worn/outdated). Stayed 4 nights all without a hot shower. Was told the shower temp could not be improved due to fixture? Head of maintenance was to address...heard nothing and saw no change. Felt great to get home and have a hot shower!

Yelp
We are obsessed with Hotel Santa Caterina. Already making 10 year plans to come back (hopefully sooner!) Pros: - beautiful views everywhere - access to sea - excellent service from all staff - beach chairs, towels, and umbrellas readily available. - floors are painted so beautifully - restaurants are delicious, and often have live music - breakfast spread is very large and had a wide range from healthy fruits to decadent cakes - outdoor elevator to the pool and sea is wonderful!! Saves you a few steps! - truffles and strawberries upon arrival - bring snacks throughout the day when you're at the beach club, and cool, wet towels to beat the heat! Cons: - incredibly expensive. For example, a simple Margherita Pizza is over 20 euro. Also, a pina colada from the beach bar was 23 euro. - deserves some small renovations to modernize the place

Yelp
You'll have many choices in Amalfi but it would be impossible to do better than Hotel Santa Caterina. White glove service, a superb blend of historic architecture and modern amenities combined with stunning vistas and a Michelin, four-star Chef, make this hotel among the best in all of Italy. We chose a cliff side suite with a garden and it was amazing. Proper heating and a/c, lovely interior furnishings, superb bedding, and lots of windows. Stunning views from every corner of the room! The staff here is absolutely top notch, from the Concierge to the housekeeping and maintenance staff - every staffer greets you with a big smile and best wishes for the day. The restaurant staff was among the best we've encountered anywhere in the world. As for the views, you'd be hard pressed to find better. The resort is at just the right height above the water and just the right distance from the center of Amalfi, making it convenient and quiet while still providing majestic views.

Yelp
We just spent our honeymoon at Santa Caterina and loved every moment! The Santa Caterina is aesthetically stunning with a vintage vibe that'll make you forget what year it is. The staff is, too amazing? They are at your beck and call and will do anything to make sure you're comfortable. They are also super quick! We had our room cleaned twice a day and felt welcome in every part of the hotel. We ate at the bistro twice and loved the service and food. We loved trying all the wines and jumping into the ocean, which is a special feature of this hotel (I almost want to say "resort"). And if you'd like to go into Amalfi, they have a shuttle that will get you there in what feels like 30 seconds! I will say, I think we were the youngest people there (mid-twenties), but it was exactly what we wanted for our honeymoon. It was quiet, sophisticated, gorgeous, and romantic. I feel like we hacked Amalfi by finding this incredible gem. Thank you, Santa Caterina!

Yelp
If you want to spend 400€ at lunch go here. we got 1 veggie tempura, 1 catch of the day, 1 bottle of wine, and it was €400. Lunch Was worth 80€. We were mind blown at the cost. Ocean Views are nice but you can see that anywhere. Lastly, the service was just, eh, not good. All in all I wouldn't go here again.

Yelp
This restaurant gave me food poisoning and ruined the rest of my vacation as I was sick for 2 days. It has a beautiful view but was the worst food I've had in Italy. I couldn't believe it after reading other reviews. Staff was so kind and attentive. Great place for a drink but definitely not for food. Unless your okay with food poisoning.

Yelp
Very exclusive hotel. This hotel is an award winning hotel and has made some of the worlds best hotel lists. The Clintons frequent this hotel amongst other celebrities. Small and private. Top of the line and probably one of the best you can do in A. coast. That's why my fiancé and I decided to stay here while in the Amalfi of Italy. Santa C. hotel also helped with the planning of me and my fiancé's engagement. According to him, they were very helpful and made everything go very smoothly. So A+ to their concierge. Upon arrival, after a long trip to the Amalfi coast, we were greeted by our names as the staff was expecting us. Then we got a tour of the hotel (absolutely romantic and stunning) and then taken to our room. We stayed in their most expensive room for 4 nights, so needless to say, the view and service and amenities were unbeatable. Did I mention the view? I mean, it was heavenly. The room itself was clean and charming. They also left me a HUGE flower setting, as well as decorated the bed with rose petals which read, "welcome to Italy". (Check our pics). Later I found out that my my fiancé's request for them to do that for me. Nonetheless, they catered to his needs and met our expectations. The reason why I gave this hotel a 4 stars is because while this hotel is stunning, for how pricey it is per night (I think we paid upwards of 3.5k per night) the first night, there was a party going on past 12 am and it got in the way of us resting after a long travel and jet lag. A good nights rest is the least of my expectations at any hotel, let alone this one. Regardless, The location is also the best in the Amalfi coast as it is very centralized. It is walking distance to a lot without the noise and crowed. The staff who are also fantastic and all so sweet made sure we had car service wherever we needed to go, if there was a need for a transportation. The best part for me (aside from the view) was the restaurant where we ate our breakfast every morning. WHAT A BREAKFAST! Omg! Facing the Tyrrhenian Sea, with a selection of some of the freshest foods I've ever had, you can't go wrong. They had the best cheese selections, the best veggies, best pastas, fresh juices, seafood, the best espresso, and olive selection. They even had gluten-free prepared for me every morning before my arrival!!!!! (sigh). We took the coolest elevator down to the pool. The view down is stunning! The pool is also really beautiful. I love that you can jump in the ocean, as well as enjoy the pool. I heard they don't always let you do this, but they told me and my fiancé that we could whatever we wanted. Lol We didn't end up doing that, but my fiancé and I did use the port to dock our boat before we took it out. That's actually how we got engaged...at sea! The hotel also helped my fiancé accommodate a violin playing and a photographer! Just wow! The other really cute touch is the large outside (patio) area they have. They often hold wedding and parties there which makes it lively and fun! (Unless you're trying to sleep lol) Really a great venue. Generally speaking, I had the best time here. I am from the states, so I am used to customer service that is above and beyond. Going to another country, you always have to reset your expectations as the customs are different. With that said, while my experience here was unlike any other, I wouldn't come back here again ONLY because there are a couple other hotels on the the worlds best list ( and on my list) I will be trying out the next time I visit Italy Go here if you can afford it. You won't be disappointed. This is the only way to do Amalfi Coast!

Yelp
One of the best hotels we've stayed at. Would highly recommend. Service is incredible. Restaurant is incredible. Concierge goes above and beyond including helping us sort a yacht rental that picks up onsite adjacent to the pool. Loved it. We shall return.

Yelp
Unbelievable Concierge, Manager, Staff, and Room service. The breakfast spread is amazing with views that are even better. The beach club is private with convenient pool/ocean access. The staff there is incredible as well. The walk from your room to the beach club is enjoyable with the same ocean view in grass gardens. 10-15 minute walk to Amalfi. There is a lower street walk exit to the right that is much quicker, a couple hundred Meters down the road. Five Stars, no question.

Yelp
We stayed at Santa Caterina for my husbands 50th and the hotel, food & service far exceeded our expectations. We have traveled to many countries and fine hotels but the service here was truly exemplary. The Concierge Gennaro Apicella went out of his way to not only meet but anticipate our needs. Every staff member from waiters, to housekeeping and shuttle drivers went above and beyond and seemed to love the hotel as much as we did. We would go back in an instant...highly recommended!

Yelp
When visiting to the Amalfi Coast you must stay at Santa Catarina. The location the service the food, all 5 star. Not to mention the pool, between the heated saltwater pool at the edge of the Med you make your decision where you want to swim. The staff makes you feel at home from the time you walk in until the time you leave. Highly recommend it.

Yelp
This hotel is amazing. As for views, the whole area is beautiful. But what's makes this hotel different is its staff and commitment to its guests. Gennaro the Concierge is amongst the best in the world, and this hotel is better because of him. The rest of the staff is absolutely wonderful as well. If you're in Amalfi you must stay here. You can spend the day in beauty and relax, then walk 8-10 minutes and your in town. I travel a lot and stay all over the world, this hotel is the best of the best thanks to its staff.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel. Hillary Clinton stayed here when Bill was president, not sure if this is good or bad, but just some info to share. Really wonderful atmosphere. Service was a little slow.

Yelp
Old hotel, great location, beautiful deck for swimming Food at the hotel is very bad... and very overpriced... for example... rice for a child is €28... what?!? Chicken for a child is €30, so your total meal is $58 for a child?!? I found it absurd! As an adult, I could not find one thing on the menu that actually had flavor... I guess we expect great food (even if $$$) to be part of great experience at a five star hotel... if you are ok walking down to town 20 min every time your kids are hungry... this hotel might work for you.

Yelp
This hotel is very very special. I would definitely recommend that anyone that can stay here. The staff are amazing, they anticipate your every need. We ate at the hotel for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We loved every meal! The views from the hotel are like no other. We really cannot put into words how special this hotel truly is.

Yelp
This hotel is so beautiful! My husband and I spent some days here and it is amazing. The service is great! The food is amazing and it has the best view! They have such a lovely decorations throughout the hotel. Everything flows with harmony and contact with nature even though you are inside... The rooms are really nice :) Such a great place to come and visit! My husband and I are really happy and hope to come back in the near future!

Yelp
One of the loveliest hotels in the world! A stay here will make an entire holiday so special is the stay. Kind and caring service, attention to details, and a true first class experience. Wonderful property with amazing views, top tier restaurants and luxurious amenities. Rooms are elegant and cozy. Also not to be missed are the cascading gardens and the pool by the sea. An unforgettable stay and I look forward to going back!

Yelp
Lovely hotel!! This is one of the nicest and most special hotels we have ever stayed at. The restaurant is delicious and the view is unbeatable while you listen to a pianist play in the background- the prefect combination!

Yelp
This may very well be THE most beautiful hotel in the world. Our room overlooked the water and was breathtaking. Cocktails on the cliff are amazing. We rented a boat with a Captain and headed to Capri directly from the dock down below. The most magical day of our marriage. The water was crisp, the Captain (which the hotel booked for us) took us to the grottos, the most perfect restaurant where there isn't a menu (you just tell them what you like and they make it!) and gave us a wonderful history of the area. The staff bent over backwards to make our stay memorable. We had been staying in an air b-n-b up the street and stumbled across the hotel. We loved it and checked out of the air b-n-b even though we'd already paid for it in full. That's how much we loved this place. Old world charm mixed with the most beautiful view. You can't go wrong staying here. It doesn't get any better than this hotel.
