Yelp
After having seen many other hotel options in the area, this is one of my favorites. They are competitive in price, and offer some amenities that other, pricier venues lack. I specifically chose Hotel Santo Thomas for its location, the included breakfast, and the jacuzzi. The enclosed courtyard is a very welcome oasis in that city of concrete, steel bars, and concertina wire.
There are a variety of public spaces, where you can choose to either enjoy socializing with other guests, or find some solitude and relaxation of your own.
One thing that most people don't realize when they travel to San Jose, is that most hotels have a policy of not allowing ANY guests into the hotel at all, if they are not registered. This means that if you are visiting friends or relatives in the area, you cannot invite your friends or relatives to come up to your room, even for a few minutes. However, some hotels (and Hotel Santo Thomas is one), allow you to invite non-registered guests to your room (for a small fee). They strike a nice balance between accessibility and security.
The hotel staff is always present and willing to help you with any needs, from booking dinner reservations, to booking adventure trips, or responding immediately to any maintenance or other issues which may arise.
I realized that I had left some valuables in my room, and after a few emails, they were able to send my things up to Boston for me.
The breakfasts are very good and very pleasant.
Overall, it was simply a lovely, relaxing, and pleasant place.
In retrospect, I wish that I had realized when I arrived what I learned only a few days before I left - they have a masseuse available for appointments onsite. Incredible massage for only $30 (I think it was 45 minutes, or maybe an hour - I forget. I just remember how amazingly good it was, how rejuvenated I felt, and wishing that I'd scheduled one for every single day of my stay).
Thanks everyone, I look forward to my next visit.
