Hotel Santo Tomas

I booked just one night at this hotel as a stopover after a long flight from the UK to Costa Rica. Thankfully, I chose a ground-floor double room with a private bathroom. The room was well presented, although it looked a little tired in places.||I checked in around 9 p.m., and the process was quick. To enter the hotel, you need to ring a doorbell (which isn’t very obvious) and then go up around seven steps to reach the reception area. After checking in, I was shown to my room. No assistance was offered with my luggage, so I was glad I’d chosen a ground-floor room. The hotel appears to have two floors, and I didn’t see an elevator, so if you’re staying on the first floor, be prepared to carry your bags up about 20 steps.||Breakfast was included in the stay. It’s quite basic, with three options to choose from. I had the scrambled eggs with rice and beans, plantain, and toast, which arrived in about five minutes. It was okay—simple but filling. Coffee and juice were also available. I noticed a few other guests left a fair bit of their breakfast, but I finished mine.||The breakfast area has around four tables and was quiet when I arrived at about 7:30 a.m., with only three tables occupied. After breakfast, I checked out and spent some time exploring the city before heading to my next destination.|.

Really nice experience in this nice hotel where I spent 2 nights after Aton Costa Rica. I had a nice room with good bathroom. The breakaways delicious and staff really very friendly. 💚🩵💙|Communication by WhatsApp was excellent, from the day of the booking until my check out. |I did not try the tiny pool, the bubble bath or any other services. |The location was better than I thought: it’s in a rather area of San José, there are bars, restaurants and shops within walking distance. ||I LOVED staying here before continuing my trip through Costa Rica. 🇨🇷🦥🤠

Nice clean hotel with very comfortable bed and linens. It actually had hot water in a big bathtub. We did not see any bugs in our room, and the breakfast was not the biggest, but it was very tasty, with four different choices to pick from. Either eggs and fruit, or the classic rice and beans, cereal, and there was another option, which I can’t remember. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and we were able to leave something in the reception fridge overnight as there was no fridge in our room.

This hotel was fantastic. The room was great. Clean and comfortable. Our kids loved the pool, waterslide and jacuzzi. Excellent breakfast. We had appointments in San Jose, and the location was perfect for getting around. The owner, and staff are so kind, helpful and knowledgeable of the area. We will definitely be going back.

A unique and excellent experience! We stayed at this beautiful hotel twice: at the beginning and end of our trip to Costa Rica, and we couldn't have made a better choice. As soon as you enter, you realize you've arrived in a historic colonial-style house in San Jose, and it was exactly what we were looking for. An authentic place, very clean, with excellent service and a super helpful staff! The decor in the common areas and rooms is truly pleasant and tasteful. Everything is made even more pleasant by the garden with a beautiful pool, a real treat after touring the city. A special mention goes to all the staff, from the welcome staff (they helped to organize the trip and for the exchange money..), to the person who cook breakfast, very nice people!. A special thanks goes to the owner, Thomas, who was available for any need, but was especially kind when my son was ill; he immediately found a doctor for us and provided first aid. It was essential to find such an organized hotel with such helpful people. I assure you, they were a great help! Overall, I highly recommend this beautiful, clean hotel in downtown San Jose, just steps from the city's most important sites. Excellent!

Staying at this hotel was an absolute pleasure. The property is very well maintained, clean, and tastefully decorated – you can immediately feel that guest comfort is a priority here. The owner is a truly warm and welcoming person, always ready to help and make everyone feel at home. The staff also deserve the highest praise – always smiling, professional, and helpful in every situation. Thanks to their kindness, the atmosphere in the hotel is exceptionally friendly and inviting. This is definitely a place I would love to return to!

I want to give a special thanks to the Hotel Santo Tomás & the entire staff. Each person from the front desk representives, the Housekeeping staff which always does a super job, to the restaurant, pool & other staff behind the scene are stars. I was greeted each day with a friendly good morning. All employees, contribute from the small to the tremendously important larger tasks in making Santo Tomás a great hotel. God continue to bless the owner & the entire hotel staff 🙏 ☺️.

My partner and I stayed at Hotel Santo Tomas for 4 nights while we visited San Jose. I cannot recommend this place enough! The pool, spa, and gym are in excellent condition, and the daily complimentary breakfast was big and delicious, featuring traditional Costa Rican dishes. Fantastic value for money. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were looked after. The lovely lady who checked us in (sorry I don't remember her name) was professional and efficient, and even gave us a complimentary room upgrade because there was capacity! Marco was amazing, always up for a friendly chat, checking-in on us and seeing if there was anything he could do to improve our stay. Location is excellent, just a short walk from major museums and attractions. Will definitely stay here again next time we are in San Jose!
