A unique and excellent experience! We stayed at this beautiful hotel twice: at the beginning and end of our trip to Costa Rica, and we couldn't have made a better choice. As soon as you enter, you realize you've arrived in a historic colonial-style house in San Jose, and it was exactly what we were looking for. An authentic place, very clean, with excellent service and a super helpful staff! The decor in the common areas and rooms is truly pleasant and tasteful. Everything is made even more pleasant by the garden with a beautiful pool, a real treat after touring the city. A special mention goes to all the staff, from the welcome staff (they helped to organize the trip and for the exchange money..), to the person who cook breakfast, very nice people!. A special thanks goes to the owner, Thomas, who was available for any need, but was especially kind when my son was ill; he immediately found a doctor for us and provided first aid. It was essential to find such an organized hotel with such helpful people. I assure you, they were a great help! Overall, I highly recommend this beautiful, clean hotel in downtown San Jose, just steps from the city's most important sites. Excellent!

The hotel was a perfect stop after a long day of travel from the states. We stayed for one night - arrived around 1:45pm and was greeted by Marco and shown to our room. The hotel is over 100 years old with beautiful touches, including lovely sitting areas overlooking the mountains. Our kids enjoyed the pool and we all LOVED the breakfast which is included. Try the option A that is a Costa Rican breakfast. Delicious food and awesome atmosphere. The owner, Michael, greeted us at breakfast and gave us tips for our travel the rest of the week. I couldn’t have been happier with this choice. The rooms are old, but clean and got us into the Pura Vida mindset! Slept very well - truly we could not have picked a better way to start our trip. We could have chosen a big brand hotel in San Jose but are glad we went with a local option. Just a lot more special! Thank you for having us!|PS eat at Cafe Rojo across the street you won’t be disappointed.

Cozy Bed and Breakfast style hotel in the heart of Old San Jose. It’s a 5 min walk to the Central Avenue, Aqui Market, and plenty of Costa Rican, Nicaraguan and Colombian Sodas (small restaurants). Loved the stay. The breakfast is not to be missed, it’s where the owner Thomas mixes and mingles with the guests. All of the staff is super helpful and are capable of arranging drivers, rental cars, activities and tours in and around any part of Costa Rica. This was my home base during my several week stay in Costa Rica. Also, make sure to try the hot tub and slide into the pool!!

My partner and I stayed at Hotel Santo Tomas for 4 nights while we visited San Jose. I cannot recommend this place enough! The pool, spa, and gym are in excellent condition, and the daily complimentary breakfast was big and delicious, featuring traditional Costa Rican dishes. Fantastic value for money. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were looked after. The lovely lady who checked us in (sorry I don't remember her name) was professional and efficient, and even gave us a complimentary room upgrade because there was capacity! Marco was amazing, always up for a friendly chat, checking-in on us and seeing if there was anything he could do to improve our stay. Location is excellent, just a short walk from major museums and attractions. Will definitely stay here again next time we are in San Jose!

This hotel was an absolute gem!! The lady who checked us in was excellent. We arrived early from an early morning flight and managed to get into our room around 11am and we were also offered a free upgrade for our room. The free breakfast at the hotel is also excellent. It was a beautiful Costa Rican style breakfast that was cooked specifically for you. Special thanks to Marco as well, he looked after us very well. He was always checking in on how we were, how our stay was and went above and beyond to help us out. The location is awesome, you are just out of the main drag of central downtown, but it still feels very safe (especially as 2 young female travellers). Beautiful rooms, pool and common areas of the hotel. We could not recommend a better place to stay in San Jose!!

I loved everything about my week long stay at Hotel Santo Tomas. I was in San Jose for dental work and was a bit apprehensive as I was traveling alone. As it turned out, I picked the perfect place to stay. The staff was warm, kind and helpful. The owner, Thomas, was on the premises daily and had a friendly word for all the guests, and he's also quite funny and has a wealth of knowledge about Costa Rica. The other guests were delightful, it was as if I'd joined a little family of people who come here year after year to stay at this hotel from all over the world. It was a quick and safe walk to the city center and was surrounded by charming parks, I walked everywhere. My room was spotless, the bed was comfortable, and the courtyard of the hotel was a wonderful place to hang out. This is a hidden gem, and the only place I'll stay when I come to San Jose in the future.

We stayed three nights at Hotel Santo Tomas and appreciated the convenient location and affordable price. The friendly, English-speaking staff offer a generous Costa Rican breakfast and help with local recommendations and activities. While the hotel is safe and comfortable, it lacks air conditioning, and we would book a ground floor room for cooler temperatures next time. But given the excellent location and competitive price, we’d definitely stay again!

Quiet, walkable, central city location. Excellent management. Extremely clean. Exquisite woodwork and hand crafted top of the line furniture throughout. On site wellness center, on site lab work, full time doctor on site! Wellness center is very reasonable, pleasant & professional. GYM, pool, and jacuzzi. Courtyard is beautiful.
