Saravana Bhavan - Egmore

Visited the place after a really long time. I was a regular to their Egmore branch about 2 decades back, during its beginning days. The quality and taste of food is almost same. Sadly, their service is at the lowest now! Sincerely hoping they rise back to their previous glory again.

Decades back when we were at KK Nagar, we used to have lunch regularly at the space at first floor, where for 60 or 70 odd rupees they fed us with lovely food; refills were done willingly- rarely we asked them. But today at one of its outlets, I had an experience to forget! Staff had to be followed up multiple times even to get the bill. Food was just about average - a sambar without any vegetables and pickle-sized portion of kootu and poriyal. Staff weren’t attentive and most of the time they aren’t to be seen. Eventually we walked out and paid the bill at counter since no one was there to present the bill. Wonder how they are able to sustain the business with this terrible service! Made a note to self, to never ever step in.

It is in a lane off from main road but has a big board. The ambience is just ok. Food is very good. Vegetarian south indian north indian some chinese. Excellent coffee and tea. Moderately expensive. Accepts cash or upi payment or cards. You order, prepay , then collect yourself i.e. self service. No table service. Enough space available to sitc and eat. Excellent fast service. Has rest rooms.

Near Egmore railway station. Had the quintessential Idli and Medu Vada sambar & Tea. Medu Vada was great.

We tried a South Indian thali meal and it was a nice experience. The plate featured a variety of dishes, including flavorful curries, rice, and traditional accompaniments. The authenticity of each dish showcased the restaurant's commitment to South Indian cuisine. The service and the staff was attentive. The pricing was reasonable for the quality and quantity of food provided. Overall, a satisfied.

Wonderful food and prompt service Spotlessly clean

Absolutely loved this place. Way better then Delhi one. Cleanliness was well maintained, prompt service. They have hung beautiful hand paintings all around the sitting area. Wished to take one of them home. We tried their breakfast tiffin, onion dosa, Idiyappam and coconut milk which was wonderful. 😍
