Hotel Savoy Kansas City, Tapestry Collection by Hilton (Kansas City, Missouri) 8 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"When the original 21c Museum Hotel opened in Louisville, Kentucky, we hoped it would be the beginning of a wave of stylish, luxurious, culturally accomplished boutique hotels in smaller cities all across America. What we didn’t know was that not only would this wish come true, but it would be the 21c group itself that made it happen. 21c Museum Hotel Kansas City is the eighth addition to the family, a redevelopment of the historic Savoy Hotel, in the Financial District at the heart of Missouri’s largest city." - Tablet Hotels

After reading some recent reviews of the Savoy, I was somewhat skeptical of booking our anniversary stay. However, we were especially impressed with the quality of service we received in this historic edifice. The air conditioning worked perfectly. The breakfasts were superb. The building is well furnished. As Hilton Diamond members, we received a spacious upgrade. Refrigeration was adequate. And the service was excellent. Hats off to Megan and crew for a truly wonderful stay.

I had a wonderful time staying at this hotel during my conference. The staff were some of the most helpful I've experienced. The room was cleaned daily and everything worked very well. It was in walking distance of a cute coffee shops, the convention center, library, bars, and other popular spots! Couldn't recommend this hotel enough!

The fridges in the rooms do NOT keep anything cold. There are no ice machines. Water in the room goes scorching hot so easily it's hard to balance for a shower. There aren't desks in the rooms. And the restaurant is expensive and limited. The place also needs a facelift it's so bare and boring. And had a weird overwhelming smell in the lobby all the time.

Hotel Savoy formally 21C is our go to Hotel when in KC. From the easily accessible parking garage across the street, to the wonderful staff. This time Jesse,Madi and Megan were all phenomenal. A special shout out to the always dynamite Annie (the best). We like the walkable location to the QUAFF and Phoenix amongst other food and drink spots. Looking forward to seeing the Savoys decor return to the splendor of its past. Again the staff is amazing, we love it here.

UPDATE: I'm changing from 3 stars to 4. The hotel reached out to me and we had a great discussion. Andrew took the issues seriously and made it right with us. Great staff and hopefully with all of the improvements they're making it will be a 5 star hotel. The hotel itself is beautifully done and extremely clean and crisp. The staff are very friendly and always willing to help when they can. We did run into several issues, however. My husband and I took an overnight stay for a date night out and decided to stay at the hotel Savoy. First, we hadn’t thought much about parking and did not realize we would have to pay for parking. I don’t recall it being mentioned when we booked the hotel. If we wanted to pay $10 or $15 we had to walk several blocks and otherwise we had to use the valet which was $39 plus tip. Next, we had several issues with the elevator. You have to use your key to be able to use it. That wasn’t a problem, but it there were several times we would push the buttons and it would not work. Sometimes we were in the elevator several minutes and then eventually push a button again and get it to work. Next, we had issues with the room itself. The beverage refrigerator did not work at all. We tried to put water in there to keep it cold, and after several hours, it still was not cold. The front desk said that it would work automatically when something was put inside of it, but that was not the case. We also tried to use the TV and while you could watch regular TV, the guide did not show what was playing on each channel, only the station like ABC, CBS, etc. We tried to use one of the few apps that showed were available to be able to watch a movie, but none of them would work. There was no way to connect our phones to the TV and the web remote also would not work. We contacted the front desk and they sent someone up to look and the gentleman, though very nice, was unable to help us. He stated that the TV apps had not been working for at least a week And there was nothing he could do about it. He also said he knew that the refrigerator wasn’t working. He did offer to bring us a mini fridge if we needed it though. There are no ice machines available, but they did say they could bring us ice upon request. Lastly, the biggest issue we had was the temperature of the room. It was a very hot day, 95+ degrees. We turned the AC down overnight and no matter how low we turned it. The room did not get below 75°. I understand some of these things are governed but 75° seems a bit high. We were so hot all night that neither of us slept well or even used blankets. Had there been any airflow in the room to where you could feel the air blowing across you 75 probably wouldn’t have been so bad but there was none. On a positive note, I enjoyed that they had a slightly better coffee machine than the average hotel and the windows and curtains were beautiful, and gave the place a very elegant feel. The upscale soaps and lotions available as well as robes being provided were also very nice. All in all, it’s a beautiful hotel with a few nice amenities, but definitely has a lot of work needed!

This hotel is haunted. I checked into my room 402. I felt uneasy heading up the elevator. It felt as if someone walked into the room directly behind me. I turned on every light in the room. Still feeling uneasy, I didn’t unpack. I turned around to the full length mirror and it appeared as if a shadow moved from in front of the mirror. I exited the room without my luggage. I went down to the bar for a drink because my nerves were shot. I checked out 30 minutes after checking in. Needless to say they would not grant me a refund because I used Priceline. The staff shared numerous stories of the haunts of the hotel. The front desk clerk was kind enough to go upstairs with me to retrieve my luggage. The hotel should advertise itself as haunted because I’m sure there are guests who would enjoy the experiences and the stories of the staff members. I was not one of them. I checked into another hotel and couldn’t sleep for two nights after. I wrote a complaint to the hotel leadership as instructed. No response. I wrote an email complaint to Hilton’s escalation team. No response.

Google
Positive: It is a close competition between the excellent front desk staff, the superstar bartender who told us about the history of the building while she mixed our cocktails, and the sumptuous king suite we stayed in. All wonderful, top-notch. Negative: Not the hotel's fault, but the road construction nearby made the last several blocks of our drive to the Savoy a little treacherous and confusing. Again, 100% out of the control of the hotel, which was otherwise one of the nicest places we've stayed.

Elaine at the front desk was amazing. I was offered a handful of things to do in town, as well as a map where I was shown where they were and resources to utilize. She was extremely knowledgeable about the area. Note: parking is not required to be through their valet, we were given a sheet with more options. Our room was very clean and easy to find. Also: I saw several reviews regarding the age of the hotel showing. Which I will say that those weren’t concerns for me, as it was just cracks in the sink or small stains in the carpet. Everything was still very clean. One thing that was more off-putting was the smell of the water in the bathroom sink, I assume this goes along with the age-but again, not a deal breaker. Overall, a great stay, and we will be returning if in the area.

Yelp
I have not stayed at this hotel, but I have gone through the museum a couple of times and it's definitely worth it to check it out! The first time I went, the parking was stressful because all the street parking was full, and we ended up having to pay for parking which wasn't ideal. BUT this previous time, we parked at union station, took the street car to the station down the street, walked for about 5-10 minutes and walked right in! Not for everyone, but we enjoyed the walking and scenery. The staff is always super nice and told us to go right into the museum. There are multiple rooms to look around in and even an upstairs. And, depending on the season, they change out their exhibits every once in a while. I would definitely label it as modern art with a historic twist because they touch on pressing topics in our world today. It's all very relevant and makes you think about the world we live in. I would suggest this for a date night or a casual restaurant. I don't know anything about the actual hotel but i'd love to stay there at some point because it looks beautiful!

Yelp
I need to note that I didn't stay at this hotel, I am just rating the museum portion and staff I encountered when we visited. We went for The Future is Female exhibition and it was really cool. I love the concept of the space and had never heard of the hotel concept before finding it randomly on Google. The staff inside was friendly and made sure we knew where we could find all of the art included in the show. I would love to stay here sometime.

Yelp
Booked a room here based on my experience with the brand in other cities. Upon arrival, I knew this would not be the same and not in a good way. The hallway leading to the reservation desks and the rest of the first floor is where the investment stopped. The hallway is beautiful and the first floor is an art gallery. The other floors looked less modern and more worn. The room served a purpose but showed signs of aging. It being dimly lit is likely to keep people from taking a closer look. The bathroom had a chemical odor and the door needed to stay close. It was alarmingly powerful. It also wasn't very clean and still had used towels hanging. This was a disappointing visit given how nice the other locations I've visited are. I wouldn't stay here again.

Yelp
21c hotels are some of my favorites because you get a fantastic stay along with an interesting museum experience at the same time. The Kansas City 21c is the most recent we've stayed at, and it stacked up just fine to what we were expecting of the brand! Our room was a piece of art in itself, with a gorgeous velvet purple couch, gold plated wooden dresser and gold curtains, and a giant comfy bed with a dark leather upholstered headboard for an ultra classy look. The bathroom was equally impressive, with gold plated fixtures, an enormous shower, and luxurious toiletries. I wanted to move in! Once we settled in to our fab room, we went to see the art on the first few floors. It was super beautiful and an impressively sized collection. The lobby had a gorgeous neon gothic chandelier and a gigantic hot air balloon type installation billowing from the ceiling. We explored a little more and saw hallways FULL of art, as well as a room lined with all plants in the walls with small artistic dioramas inside the greenery. Overall, we absolutely loved our stay here, as it had all the comforts of a modern/upscale hotel, but also the preservation of local art and culture.

Yelp
We've stayed here twice as a couple! Recommended for: couples, single adults, or a best friend trip to KC Pros: Charm, Character, Comfy beds, Large showers, Museum in house, Savoy restaurant is wonderful, ability to walk around the museum with a cocktail late night, central downtown location, not far from farmer's market location, a quick drive to shopping at country club plaza, close to Kauffman Center for shows. Cons: rooms are a little on the small side, it's an old building so... all the little things that might come with that. I recommend!

Yelp
My first time staying at the 21c hotel chain and it will be my last. While the location of this hotel is awesome - and the parking is easy (there's tons of street parking) - the rest of the hotel is nothing to be desired. The bad: -beds are hard and uncomfortable. -the pillows smelled like wet dog. I called downstairs to get new pillows only to be given more pillows that smelled horrible. I had a hard time sleeping with the horrific stench. -elevators smelled like puke. -carpet was stained and also smelly. -windows are covered which makes the rooms dark and dreary Skip this hotel and stay at another one.

Yelp
Very hip hotel that's definitely not run of the mill. It's almost like a museum inside as there's interesting art everywhere. It's like a walk-in exhibit with rooms. Like a lot of other hotels, however, the room suffered from crappy outlet syndrome, where the power outlets are hard to access and some are super janky that the plug just slides right out. Also, the room could've used more table space. Other nuisances: pillows were small and way too soft, almost like airplane pillows. The bed was way too soft too. The paint in the sink basin was chipping as well. And, the plastic toilet seat cover was loose and eventually just fell right off. Things like that just couldn't go unnoticed, unfortunately. Also, for whatever reason, our room never got serviced. Not too familiar with downtown KC, but the building is in a non-congested part of the area, so that's a plus. The popular power and light district is about a 15 minute walk from there. Would I stay here again? Probably not.

Yelp
Stayed here for a quick work trip, probably one of the more unique hotels I've stayed in. I was surprised to find that there was an actual museum on the first floor...thought it just had something to do with the name! I picked it due to its proximity to a few restaurants and cafes. I was easily able to walk a couple blocks to breakfast each morning and had options. I stayed in a king room, it was spacious and had a couch and table at the foot of the bed. The vibe of the room felt sort of victorian with the tall curtains and hardware in the bathroom. Was bummed to find that when I opened the curtains you couldn't actually see out the windows and that they had a film over them. The film didn't go all the way up, but enough that all you could do was see upwards a little bit. The bed was pretty stiff as were the sheets. It was pretty uncomfortable and for that reason alone I probably wouldn't stay here again. This place is still getting 4 stars though because their customer service was fantastic. On my first night I was awakened by the most awful high pitched squealing sound, come to realize it is the bathroom sink. It made some noise a few more times throughout the night but never as bad as the first. The next morning I told the front desk and they immediately sent up a tech to work on it while I was at breakfast. When back in the room later the sound continued, I let the front desk know and they immediately offered to change my room. Since I was heading out I asked if I could switch later that evening. They let the night staff know, and had everything ready for me when I returned. They came to my room to personally deliver the new room key. This new room also had windows you could see out of, a true upgrade!

Yelp
Last minute stay for the Chiefs parade & bonus it was Valentine's Day! Great downtown location. Parking is across the street for $10. We were on the 4th floor. There is art throughout the hotel. Our room had a sofa & table so that made working a bit easier. The bathroom is good sized with counter space & makeup mirror. You do have to ask the front desk for ice and there really aren't in room refrigerators. Restaurant on site is beautiful. Walk throughout the hotel and check out the art exhibits- very cool!

Yelp
I mean. Where to begin. A large group of us stayed here on tour. My room: AC didn't work. Sink Drain didn't work. Phone "IT is working on it". Internet "IT is working on it " Restaurant-$61 for lamb chops. Staff there was friendly. But it's $61 for lamb chops. My co worker had used toilet paper in his toilet. My other coworker slept on the tour bus due to room "cleanliness" The welcome channel is BIZARRE AF! Maybe it's an attempt to be artsy? People dining outdoors with cones around their necks? Oh. And the tv channels are intermittent. So enjoy a movie. Or not. ‍‍

Yelp
I worked with 21c to reserve a room block of 10 rooms back in March of 2024 for our wedding weekend in October 2024. The block of 10 rooms included two double queen rooms, one for my brother and his family of 4, and the other for some of the groomsmen to stay and also so the guys would have a more spacious room to get ready in the morning of the wedding. Both of these rooms in our block got booked by our group within a couple weeks of our block getting set up, so about 6 months in advance. However, when we arrived at the hotel wedding weekend, we were informed that a soccer team was staying at the hotel and our two double queen rooms had ultimately been given to them, and thus my brother and his family and the groomsmen were given a room with a single king bed. We were told that the hotel was sold out that weekend, and there was ultimately nothing that could be done other than putting roll aways in the rooms to accommodate everyone and offering free drink coupons. This definitely wasn't an ideal scenario as it created very tight conditions within the rooms, and made it difficult for the groomsmen to get ready the morning of the wedding. I will say, the front desk staff tried to do what they could to help, which we appreciated, but obviously they are limited in what they are able to do at that point. We were frustrated that these accommodations were booked 6 months in advance just to be switched out by management without any notification or warning to us, and there were no attempts to correct the situation.

Yelp
I stayed here for a work trip. The building was not well labeled, and therefore difficult to find. The desk staff was cold. The room was newly remodeled with nice finishes, but very oddly shaped with a strange long hallway. Several days of my stay I didn't have hot water for my morning shower. There wasn't any art in the museum. The complimentary beverage was a shot of whisky.

Yelp
This place is an absolute Dump. The carpets and sofa are filthy dirty!! Do not believe the good reviews of this place. I have NEVER had a worst hotel experience in my life.

Yelp
I've now stayed at almost every 21C hotel (I haven't been to Iowa). Gets an overall five stars with some stronger points and some weaker points. Strong: the artwork this time around was poignant, the thought provoking, and cohesive. The restaurant and restaurant staff were outstanding (The Savoy, reviewed separately). Their room service was awesome too. The beds at 21C have always been comfy and I like their toiletry products. Weaker: The front desk staff was a mixed bag. Generally helpful and nice, but I was received more coolly here than some other places. Housekeeping. I 1000% understand we are still struggling with COVID and the economy and labor issues. And I don't know who had my room previously, but there were several small shards of glass in the seating area, there was a pair of underwear behind the couch (which I didn't touch and left there), and I somehow found a pair of dried up old contact lenses on the bedspread. Please note, the room was generally clean and well appointed, but the three things I mentioned were pretty big things. Also, if we aren't going to go back to having minibars (which I'm fine with), can we have mini fridges in the rooms? I get you're trying to up-sell room service, but I would just like to be able to chill my water or have something cool to drink without asking for a (too small) bucket of ice. Oh, and a tip: no valet parking, but there is a paid garage across the street that charges 10 bucks a night. Would stay again. The positive far outweighs the negative.

Yelp
Dark, Dingy, dreary, dirty & disappointing! Rooms are awful! It wasn't clean, rooms are dark and dreary! Carpets stained. Do not book here! Front desk staff were unresponsive to our dissatisfaction- "that's the room we have you booked into"! Avoid this Hotel.

Yelp
Not great for group reservation as you can be bumped into different room from what you reserved for. My booking was luxury king but the staff initially assigned me to a non-view double room that feels like a basement with a broken phone. Had to take everything downstairs to the front desk hoping it was an honest mistake but was told our group was overbooked and whoever comes late has to get something else; or i can chose to check out tomorrow by 11 and wait for a new room to be assigned. It'd be great if the staff can communicate this upfront.

Yelp
Great hotel! We were in town for Chiefs game and I booked us a room here. Check in was so quick and easy, our room was nice and quiet. I'll definitely keep them top of mind when returning throughout the season for other games. Zero complaints! Wait wait... I did run down to check out the fitness center and it was a tad bit warm. My only suggestion would be to crank up the AC a bit in there. Overall a fantastic historic hotel option.

Yelp
It is not very often when I don't think twice before giving hotel 5 star review. 21C in KC is one of those rare occasions. Well located, in downtown, but just few blocks away from craziness of Power&Light district. Easy to walk to and easy to drive to.... Front desk staff is simply wonderful! They went extra mile to make sure that our family is well taken care of, and provided platinum upgrade to tasteful and spacious suite. They even set up sofa for my daughter with linens and everything else needed. Every single person I dealt with during our 4 night stay was cheerful, pleasant, and helpful, no exceptions! Museum galleries were pretty interesting, as in other 21c hotels I visited (Nashville, Chicago). We haven't eaten breakfast in the restaurant, but stopped by for happy hour few times, and had light meal in their famed Savoy Restaurant. It was quite nice food and atmosphere, they also have good selection of drinks and wines. All in all, it was definitely the right hotel for us. Due to extreme heat we stayed inside the hotel more than we planned, but we were not bored, surprisingly so!

Yelp
Not a great hotel I do not recommend this hotel. Staff is nice, but hotel is kind of a junker. First off, there are no Do Not Disturb signs to hang on door. Housekeeping comes no matter what. Didn't really want anyone in our room while we were gone. I had a coffee I was saving, but they came in and threw it in trash. They didn't even make beds when they came in. A sign of a poorly planned hotel is when there is no fridge, unless you want to use minibar fridge and pay. I had medications that needed to be refrigerated, but I wasn't able to do that. Also, in a city like KC known for ribs, it would have been nice to save our leftovers. No fan in the bathroom, so bring matches/air freshener. Also, phones in room are for decoration only; they do not work. Tried multiple times to call front desk, but had to use my phone. Hotel is in a cellular dead zone, so making a call was tough. No ice machine. You have to call the front desk and ask to have ice brought to your room. And the bag of ice they bring up is huge, but ice bucket is small, so most of the ice goes to wasted. If Motel 6 ever opened a nice hotel, this would be it. Do not recommend.

Yelp
A neon light walkway to the museum/front desk was trippy. I loved that the staff were super friendly, easy to talk to, and had great recommendations. We've been driving cross country and visiting different pet friendly hotels and this place tops them all! We received a dog token that gave our English bulldog free entry to Bar K, 5 driving minutes away from the hotel. They also provided 2 dog bowls in the room (one for food, one for water). I thought that was a nice touch for guests with pets! We didn't get to use the gym but it also had amenities in the work out room, like water bottles and towels for guests. This hotel also shares space with an art museum on the 1st and 2nd floor. We didn't get to go around each exhibit but the installations and art we did see were moving. We also did not get to experience the Savoy which was once the oldest restaurant west of the Mississippi, but recommend it for guests staying multiple nights!

Jenny M.

Yelp
Cool vibe. Comfortable bed, nice bathroom and good soap/shampoo etc in regular sized bottles. Love the bar in the Savoy. Awesome drinks. Staff has been, mostly, great. The dings: room was barely cleaned and restocked after our first night. No water or ice or vending ANYWHERE. No bottled water for sales in the hotel or at the front desk. The glass coffee cups in the room were not replaced with clean ones. Called the front desk to get more coffee pods and the receptionist was a bit rude and said the cleaning staff didn't clean or replace used, non disposable cups/glasses. Very odd. Lastly, the tv remote only powers up the television. Every time you turn on the tv, you are required to scan in a qr code and use your phone to control the tv. Also no guide on live tv. You just hit a channel name and hope you like what's on. It's just cumbersome.

Yelp
Very disappointed in the customer service here. Despite being such a pretty and unique hotel, my husband and I did not enjoy our time here due to the front desk manager, Alexa. We checked into our hotel room and being an accessible room, we called the front desk and asked to be changed into another room. The gentleman that originally helped us check in, answered the call and told us to come downstairs and he'd happily help us check into another room. When we came down, he was helping another guest and we were assisted by Alexa. She rather robotically told us that all the rooms were filled and they were fully booked. She went onto say that because we stepped into the room, and because there was no housekeeping at that time in the early afternoon, we couldn't go to another room. Her attitude and the way she handled the situation was terrible. Telling us that we could gladly check out and find another hotel. My husband and I are not complainers nor are we any kind of argumentative people, so we have her no reason to speak to us this way. She did not handle our situation at all, and she was being argumentative even though we were speaking to her normally. This is not the way we wanted to enter Kansas City and enjoy our weekend here. Do not go to this hotel. Customer service is a 0.

Yelp
We drove 8 hours to KC today, paid for a Deluxe King room with a view, booking through hotels.com. We showed up and walked into one of the dirtiest rooms, 2 queen beds, and out the only small window appeared a brick wall from the adjacent hallway. Given the fact that we paid probably $220 for this small, dark, dirty room with many stains on the carpet and couch, this did not meet the price. We attempted to reach out to Hotels to get a refund for such a broken promise, to go to another hotel down the street, the 21C (Brian - hotel manager) refused to help in any way. Although we did NOT get our money back, we still stayed at the Loews hotel about a mile away which was classy and clean. So now I'm out of pocket $220 + $3 to use the parking garage across the street for about 30 minutes which was also super sketchy.

Yelp
The hotel itself was very beautiful and the staff where very nice but now for the worst part. I stayed at this hotel for business only to come out the next day and found my car was broken into. I was made aware when I checked into the hotel the parking lot had 24 hour security and they had no problems before only to come find out this happens all the time at this hotel. There insurance company contacted me and told me that they are not responsible for what took place.... Hmmmm I wonder how that works when u pay for valet parking but there not responsible? Needless to say if you would like your stuff to be vandalized and stolen please stay here is what there saying!!!

Yelp
Stayed in room 520. Walked into our room after 12:30am after a concert on 07/07. The hotel was fully booked so we knew that we wouldn't be able to switch rooms and dealt w/ the hair on the bathroom sink and counter, as well as throughout the bed, and the smoke smell throughout the bathroom. It was only the next day, after we checked out that we found bed-bug bites on our bodies. Now, on 07/09, we are itchy all over and covered in bites. We were so excited for the stay and to get to explore the museum but it is far-overshadowed by the itching we're now experiment.

Yelp
I stay at 21c hotels whenever I can if the price meets my budget. It is like staying at a legitimate art gallery, usually with very good restaurant and nice rooms. 21c always has great service and this hotel is no exception. The lady at reception was so kind and helpful and pleasant. I was traveling for business and this hotel is nice reprieve from the travel grind. It would be great place for meetings or weddings as it has lots of nice space with tasteful art. I like 21c and I like KC.

Yelp
Booked through Expedia. Hotel took my card for 'incidentals'. after checking out I noticed they charged my card for the a whole stay which had already been paid for. Contacted Hotel for a refund for their 'mistake'. no apologies but sent me a 'partial' refund and expected me to pay The difference in exchange rate and other fees for THEIR mistake. have been trying to get in touch with their manager ALEXA Who has not returned my messages for two weeks and every time I call and the staff asks me for my name, Alexa is all of a sudden 'busy'. this hotel is a scam and they will try to charge you twice for your stay hoping you don't notice and if you do notice, you will be responsible for any fees and exchange rates

Yelp
Was really enjoying our stay until we returned back to our room at 6:00, our room still hadn't been cleaned and serviced. Staff brought us glasses and clean towels. Terrible service as far as room cleaning can go! Food and the bar area were satisfactory. Have stayed at 21C many times in other cities. Didn't encounter the problem we had in KC at any of those hotels.

Yelp
This hotel in Kansas City was funky and friendly. Everyone who worked there was very accommodating and kind. We loved eating at the restaurant downstairs-- and the art installations everywhere were amazing! The penguins located throughout the hotel were...interesting. We had some fun moving them around while we were there. Our room was very spacious-- although, for being an artsy-hotel, I would have hoped that the rooms would be more updated and decorated with fun colors and artwork-- but they were pretty basic. We had a wonderful stay and were able to walk to many other restaurants and bars in and around downtown!

Yelp
Whenever I am in NW Arkansas I always make a point of stopping at The 21c to see the art collection and have a meal. When I heard 21c was renovating the old Savoy property I was super stoked that they were coming to KC. The biggest question in my mind lately has been "what color would our penguins be?". Well, they are powder blue and randomly scattered about the hotel, restaurant, bar, lobby and contemporary art galleries. I visited on the 2nd day of operation and some of the gallery space wasn't completely finished, but what I could see was impressive. With 2 separate galleries on 2 floors they will be giving other contemporary art connoisseurs another outlet to see exciting and challenging pieces and entire installations. And it's free and open 24/7. The bar is one of the coolest spots in the city. This is the space that was previously The Savoy Grill, arguably KC's most historic restaurant. The tile mosaic floors, the beautiful bar, the old wooden booths and the stained glass juxtaposed with art and a few blue penguins make for a grandiose yet whimsical experience. Welcome to Kansas City 21c and Thank You for preserving some of our treasured history and for creating such a cosmopolitan and inspiring space. I can't wait to go back for food, drinks and more art!!

Yelp
This review is about the restaurant: The Savoy. There isn't a Yelp site for the new restaurant, only the old. So I posted to the old restaurant site. Having dined at 21c Hotel restaurants in Louisville and Cincinnati, I was hoping to be wowed by the new Savoy. I was extremely disappointed and shared my feelings with the restaurant's manager. If you had dined at the old Savoy, you experienced white table cloths, polished servers and elegantly presented food. It was the place you celebrated special occasions. The new Savoy is not that place. You can step back in time and enjoy the bar, that has some of that old vibe. Our first impression of the new dining room is it looks a hotel coffee shop. Too many tables, no privacy, cheap looking chairs, no table cloths. The reviews I had read on OpenTable about small portions, high prices and so-so service were unfortunately right. I don't get why you present an entree on a small plate and there is no room for your sides. Are we supposed to eat from the bowls? And we weren't provided serving spoons. I've included photos so you can see what we ordered, starting with Avocado Crab Louis, to Lobster Newberg and Prime Rib, sides: Gnocchi, Cream Corn and Greens. The restaurant's manager came by to clear our table and asked if we enjoyed our meal. I said it was so-so. He asked what could he do to make our experience better, I said nothing. But I asked for his business card and wrote him with our impressions. He kindly bought us dessert which we enjoyed in the bar. The Profiteroles and Baked Alaska were the best things of the whole evening. I'm confident 21c will get this figured out. However I spent over $250 and wished they had figured it out before I had dined there.

Yelp
First time staying at a 21C hotel. We stumbled on this place via a HOTWIRE special and am glad we did. It was advertised as a 4 star hotel and it delivered. I am not into art and don't normally go to museums. It was interesting seeing the artwork throughout the hotel. Instead of conference/meeting rooms or ballrooms they have rooms filled with artwork to look at. All the staff was super friendly and helpful. I asked for a mini fridge and they immediately brought one to my room free of charge (gave the employee that brought it a $5 tip). Hotel has no parking. There is a vacant lot next to the building that we parked at everyday and had no issues (they warned us it is not watched and our car could get broken into but we had no issues). There is covered parking across the street for $10 a day of you prefer. We stayed in room 502 and it was HUGE! When we walked in curtains cover 2 of the walls and we were hoping for views of the city. However when we opened curtains there was only one tiny window on each wall, and they faced a building a few feet ahead with zero view and privacy!!! Water temperature for the shower was erratic. Hot water that went cold and was hard to get to a comfortable warm temperature. They also use WATER SOFTENER and if you are not used to this it can be annoying. However we got a good deal on Hotwire and would come back.

Yelp
Yelp makes it tough to rate as this falls between 3-4 stars. Let's start with the positive: - rooms are nice for the price - the location is great.. especially if you want to avoid being near the convention center or Power & Light but still close enough to restaurants and River Market for the weekend - bar is great but has limited hours (doesn't open until 5 pm on a Fridays??) Fair to middling: - art is more of what your would come to expect from a modern focus and new artists who truly miss the style of the classics in place for stereotypical political angst - staff - hit and miss. Staff seems to have considerable turnover over the last year which would be welcome but they seem to be hiring people with less hospitality experience in place for kids who seem to match the art vibe. Late night / early morning staff are helpful and mean well but lacking experience. The Bad: - lobby is not a lobby but instead has replaced traditional seating for museum focus (I get it but not great when you're an early riser who would like coffee and a place to sit) - the one lobby-like seating area is locked off for staff convenience as deeper in the room is where breakfast will be setup.. again great room but no access - most staff (80%) act like they are doing you a favor by providing service. -- front desk (not sure if this is simply lack of experience or simply apathy) -- kitchen and wait staff would rather be working elsewhere.. be happy if you actually get what you ordered.. note that timely service is not an option I truly think this hotel has opportunity. I've stayed here 3-4 times unusually for stays of 3+ nights. All they need is one or two serious property managers (one one duty at all times) to provide adult supervision. Next try roping off the breakfast area so that patrons can use the only lobby seating available.

Yelp
Stayed at the 21c recently to see the KC Airshow and downtown family. Room was excellent with a great bed, bath and view. Who does not like Blue Penguins appearing randomly! The stars of the show were the people and history/art surrounding you everywhere. From the valet, to the front desk, to the Savoy, everyone was engaging, quick, and friendly. Notable stand outs were Stephanie the valet, and The Savoy restaurant manager Damon Bailey. Damon was knowledgeable about the building, a great conversationalist, and all around great emissary for the place. We had a blast just hanging at the bar pre airshow. We actually live in the area, Overland Park/Lawrence, but wanted to be in the action. We will be back! Big fun..........oh....and check out the Ship tavern in the West Bottoms!

Yelp
Although the concept is great and some of the customer service people are nice the hotel has way too many issue. My toilet ran all the time, the tub wouldn't empty after a bath and eventually started to leak into room underneath me. The heat wasn't efficient and after realizing I left an item I called and was told they couldn't find it when I was sure it was there. Eventually a colleague of mine went to the room and found it. I Just don't understand why quality is so hard to have. The staff was nice but the quality of the hotel is less than desirable... but I did love the art. Do better.

Yelp
The Art installations ere beautiful. We were the only people there off season, early morning. Breakfast at Banskia, then Art at 21C followed by a walk. Friendly people who answered questions even though we were not guests and the staff in the Savoy took my picture by the Harry Truman booth.

Yelp
Rooms controlled by motion detector. So when you fall asleep the AC turns off. When you leave the room too. Rooms designed poorly as well. I'm 6'5" and had to move the couch that was at the foot of the bed. So I could stretch out.

Yelp
The hits for 21c-KC: The art encompasses one and a half floors of goodness. It is woman artist-centric, poignant, thoughtful and beautiful. The 7th floor room was very quiet even as the windows faced the street below. Bed and the bedding were comfortable, as was the bathrobe. LOVED the adjoining Savoy Grill. Happy hour offerings and skillful mixology at the hands of Alexandra were a win. I think i found a new favorite cocktail at her hands. In the morning, the lobby coffee was hot and fresh...so much better than what i found in my hotel room. The needless misses at the 21c-KC: The attention to detail that typifies the 21c brand was missing at this hotel during my stay. So was the high level product quality i have come to expect from the 21c franchise. In-room refrigerator was not only empty, but locked shut. Had to get a replacement. Instead of real coffee cups, i found cheap, Dixie-Cup-thin vessels left next to the in-room coffee machine for hot beverages - two flimsy cups.... No sleeves to prevent burns. Breakable, gas station quality, plastic ware (think low level hotel chain) wrapped in cellophane. One bathrobe when two guests were sharing the room. Did i say no water glasses in the bathroom? Can this establishment not afford decent cups?? The worst finding however was what was left from someone who had previously used the bathroom - a used bladder/sanitary pad in the bathroom wastebasket. It was disgusting.... I phoned reception. Fortunately, got immediate response, however even after those initial misses, things still were not up to minimum expectations. The following day after our room was serviced, i retrieved my backpack from under the bedside table drawer where it rested on the shelf completely covered with a thick layer of dust. Unbeknownst, that little shelf hadn't been touched in a long time. I really think that more attention to in-room cleanliness needs to be prioritized. The 21c is NOT a "sleep cheap" brand so stop trying to cut corners with the quality reduction.

Yelp
One night stay in downtown Kansas and we just happened to stumble upon this cute boutique hotel. One of a kind as it is a hotel AND a contemporary art museum. Definitely portrays class and artistry. The building is new and has a decent size of gallery for guests to enjoy. We were greeted and checked in by the sweetest front desk lady named McKayla. She was so attentive and definitely made us feeling welcome. So cool that they also give guests a $15 voucher to their gift shop. Such a treat. We got the deluxe king and it was immaculate. Rooms are spacious and trendy with a mid century style. Bed comfort is decent but overall loved our room. They have Nespresso machines inside your room but no ice machine so you'd ask front desk to get some in their restaurant. Another perk is their gym.. located on the 2nd floor and has all the basic needs. Overall loved our stay here. If you're here on the weekend. There's plenty of free parking on the street

Yelp
I am a middle eastern woman who is being 100 percent discriminated against. I asked if they could refill the coffee and they said to wait a minute. I waited 12. An American white woman came down and had the same predicament, and was immediately led to the breakfast room for fresh coffee. Same black front desk lady. Same one. Same day. Same issue. Nothing had changed, but the hair, skin and eye color. Shame on your staff. I am an educator and an artist. I stayed for four days in your hotel. was looking forward to staying here. It was pretty on the outside and art is art. It's always a good thing. The main complaint I had was how filthy my room was. The paint on the finishings were all chipping away and overall I felt like the room had not been cleaned. This was unfortunately confirmed because no one cleaned my room, changed my towels or even made the bed for the duration of my three night stay. Not acceptable for any hotel, let alone this one. Housekeeping blew it. And no one remedied it. The bartender and Savoy staff were kind and did a good job. Shame on this hotel. The discrimination was a step too far.

Yelp
Definitely a cool swanky kind of hotel. Pretty cool How the layout is . Staff have all been super cool people. Rooms are nice and clean. The only problem I have is the beds are super soft. Super hard to get comfortable in them . I'm in a different hotel every night . I definitely have my favorites with the most comfortable beds . I would only give this bed a comfort level of a maybe a 3 .

Yelp
After visiting other 21c locations (Oklahoma City, OK and Durham, NC) we were excited to stay in Kansas City however our stay did not meet expectations... Highs: 1) Location - downtown and close to restaurants and bars 2) friendly staff Lows: 1) AC did not work the first night - room was extremely hot. 2) Maintenance was extremely slow to check and fix the AC 3) Housekeeping did not come by each day 4) our room keys stopped working at one point 5) "deluxe" rooms felt very basic... 6) the bed and pillows were not comfortable 7) movie selection was terrible... Overall, I would not likely recommend nor stay at this particular 21c location again... :(

Yelp
We really enjoyed our 4-night stay here. Staff is friendly and eager to help, the common spaces are beautiful, and art, as always, interesting. We had a corner suite which worked well for down time and traveling with our two little dogs. Love the mosaic floors downstairs especially.

Yelp
Amazing hotel - very stringent policies on cleanliness, sanitization, and great customer service. Some galleries were closed during my stay but it was still a marvelous and eclectic experience. The building itself and all furnishings are elegant but with their own artistic flair. The in-suite bathrooms were breathtaking with gold finishing and a gigantic walk in shower. Definitely enjoyed my time in Kansas City and at this hotel in particular. They brought a sense of joy and pop of art to an otherwise pretty mundane trip.

Yelp
My first time visiting this location but I am a regular patron of the 21C museum chain. My favorite location is the Cincinnati location but I really liked this location as well. The rooms weren't as jazzy as the Cincinnati rooms - come on guys you got to hook up the bathroom with the dope artwork like you have in Cincinnati! But a highlight of this stay for us was the service at the front desk. We showed up with mountain bikes that were pretty expensive and we didn't want to leave outside on the car so we initially asked if we could store them inside. The first young lady at the counter told us no but I think she was at the end of her shift and just tired. But the next young lady who replaced her was very helpful, immediately offering to store our bikes behind the counter in a secured area. Each morning we came down they were very friendly, helping us secure our bikes for our ride and always spoke regardless of whether or not we needed help. I didn't get a chance to see all of the art exhibits during this stay but I did enjoy the first floor artwork and exhibits. Will definitely visit again in the future!

Yelp
Wow - what an experience!! My boyfriend booked the hotel and I hadn't looked it up before we arrived at the front door. The entrance was like walking into a night club! There are art installations everywhere and I loved it!! I've never seen a hotel / art museum (it's in the name, I know)!! The room was clean and decorated really nice. Tall ceilings, windows across the wall with floor to ceiling drapes add a really luxurious touch. The towels were fluffy and large enough to wrap around your full body. The coffee maker was a bit futuristic for me and took a little troubleshooting but once I figured it out we were good we like to travel for fun and enjoy boutique hotels but I've never stayed in a place this unique!! If you get a chance, visit the restaurant downstairs to at least enjoy a drink. Savoy is a beautiful restaurant with dark, romantic vibes from an era long gone. When we come back to KC we will definitely come back to the 21C Museum hotel - and also have to check out the other 21Cs in other cities!!

Yelp
What a hip beautiful hotel! It's so classy with the gallery's on the 1st and 2nd floor. We originally were only planning on staying one night but ended up staying for 3 as my wife became Ill the 1st night. I must say Diane really took care of us during this stay. She helped us with everything possible, a true above and beyond customer service attitude. Told us where to get BBQ delivered, gave many suggestions for stores, warned us about the incoming severe weather warning, sent us up robes, a microwave for the room, a do not disturb sign, fresh towels, and even fresh green tea for my sick wife. Thank you so much again Diane for making this our best stay in Kansas City at a truly beautiful and unique hotel. I don't have to think about what hotel we are staying in next Kansas City visit. It will definitely be the 21C Museum Hotel! Mike

Yelp
We love staying here. Curation is always lovely, smart, and timely. Location is great and we enjoyed walking to different restaurants for breakfast or dinner. We haven't had an opportunity to try the restaurant located at the hotel but hopefully next time!

Yelp
A old friend and I who now live far apart spent a weekend here just to get together, relax, enjoy the KC of our childhood, catch a Royals game, the 18th & Vine experience and catch up. From the moment we checked in until the moment we left, the entire staff was uncommonly friendly, accommodating and fun. From the front desk, to the house staff, to the restaurant staff we could not have asked for anything more. Everything was letter perfect. Stay here. You will love it. Everyone who did so this weekend definitely shared this opinion.
