"This magnificent hotel is a feast for the eyes inside and out. The comfortable, classy rooms in white and beige are decorated in an elegant country house-style. Breakfast is served in the winter garden with a view of the grounds and a small lake." - Tablet Hotels

The castle is located in a small, quiet village where nothing happens - no shops, no bars, almost no people outside, a very special experience. A large, beautiful garden and plenty of roads among fields and woods for long walks. Just a few spacious rooms, few guests, very quiet. Good dinner when the restaurant is not closed. Staff speaking limited English, which is actually cool. In the evening there is no staff, you get a key and are on your own, which gives a feeling of visiting some distant relatives in the countryside rather than staying at a hotel.|Please note that the restaurant is closed on Sunday with no other option for dinner - we arrived by bike and did not feel like cycling all the way to Wismar. A simple bread, cheese and cold cuts were offered. The hotel charges 6,5 euro (or maybe even more) for a bottle of water - this is excessive.

What a wonderful place to stay. A very remote hotel set in beautiful countryside We were in the tower room which was just vast in size and very stylishly decorated. On our arrival we were very warmly greeted by the owner of the castle who showed us around and explained the family history, which was extremely interesting. The gardens are also a delight, with plenty of wooden chairs to sit and enjoy the surroundings. We enjoyed the lovely breakfasts and evening meals which were delicious over our two night stay. It has to be said that the waitresses at this hotel worked very hard and were always very, very pleasant and very friendly. This lovely hotel is a real credit to the owner And she should be very proud of her achievement.

If you compare price and value its expensive. For being a Schloss hotel, you need to update the furniture in the rooms and the bed needs an extra madras, the bed was very hard. The restaurant and food was very good, service minded staff. You have the potential to be a Schloss

An absolutely top location. We celebrate our marriage here just our two of us. The Hotel was top class and we definitely will comeback. Top location, top room, top diner and they reserved the Diningroom just for us so we could celebrate our marriage just the two of us. The install music for us so we could dance and so on and a fantastic breakfast. Try yourself and enjoy it.

눇This is an individual, stylish, very comfortable and excellent hotel. The location is quiet, out in the country and if you are looking for a very civilised and relaxing break this is the place too stay. We stayed 3 nights and loved it. The food was excellent, dinner and breakfast, both the quality and presentation.||The schloss has been refurbished using many of the period features and original design, it's stunning. The service was very helpful and friendly but perhaps good rather than excellent, but it didn't matter to us. We would definitely recommend this hotel

What a lovely place! Beautifully refurbished old country house, large and airy, in perfect, minimalist-traditional style, sitting in a gorgeous, idyllic landscape. Dinner in the delightful dinning room is outstanding - easily the best in Wismar - with an excellent selection of wines and super-charming and knowledgeable sommelier/maitre d'. The only down side is that they don't serve it for two days a week (Mon/Tues). They really ought to try to do so, as I can't see why anyone would want to eat anywhere else (including the drive there) during their stay! Breakfast could be a bit better, perhaps with more variety and special things every day (eg. some pies, quiches, etc) and, crucially, not running out of fresh fruit & croissants a good half-hour before the end (!) Anyway, small issues, this is a truly special place and highly recommended as a base to explore the area or just to enjoy the countryside for a few days.||||P.S. Children & babies of all ages are welcome, and personally I think this is a mistake. The place is a small, refined retreat that should allow for uninterrupted peace and relaxation in lovely nature (that's the main thing it has to offer), and the presence of even one crying baby or noisy child can destroy that for every single room and guest. Please do consider making your wonderful property adults-only and advertising it as a relaxation haven - I am positive you will be rewarded!

Gamehl consists of about four little farms and the castle. The walkway from the parking lot to the entrance was pretty muddy after rains. Stone stairway to a joint reception and dining area entrance. Long winding stairs up to the 2nd floor.|Our room had a view to the parking lot and the farms. It was painted dark grey and was cold. No two good chairs. You had to climb the tub to shower.|Breakfast was served in the winter garden with a view to an overgrown lawn and a pond. No buffet, but without consulting us got a tray with meat, fish and a little cheese. Needs to be rectified. Some want a vegetarian alternative. Agreed to a fried egg, but it was not yet stiff when served.|Not a place I would recommend or even go back to. Absolutely not worth the money

On a friend's suggestion I spent New Year's Eve at Castle Gamehl near Wismar on the Baltic Coast of Germany. The red and white Neo-Gothic building with its octagonal tower sits on rolling meadows about 10km from the city of Wismar. For over 600 years this house was the private resience of the aristocratic family von Stralendorff. Today a descendant of the original knight runs this small but oh, so fine hotel. After a warm welcome and a glass of Champagne I was taken to my accommodations, a spacious room with windows on two side of the building. I was thankful for plenty of closet space and a bathroom with a tropical rain shower. The hotel with 19 beautifully appointed rooms and suites fosters an elegantly simple decor in white and linen. The library stands our with its brick red walls and white shelves filled with book on many interesting subjects. A look into the photo album of the renovation process is really worth while. ||||A visit to Wismar is a must while there, as is a fish sandwich from the third cart in the harbor. The beautifully renovated basement houses sauna and massage room. Had a great massage from a very nice woman with maical hands. New Year's Eve dinner was a feast for the eyes and a dream menue for any hobby gourmet! The course of the evening was accompanied by a solo musician on the keyeboard with an incredible repertoire of everything from elevator music to broadway musicals and newest hits, all professionally delivered. Fun was had by all. There is an unsung harmony among the staff in this hotel, very polite and friendly! The food every day, every meal was phenomenal. The cheesecake to die for!
