Hotel Schwan

Amazing hospitality, excellent food, and great service. A throwback to the days of the true Bed and Breakfast Inn. Older hotel but with nice elevator and larger rooms than most hotels in Europe. Not fancy, but well appointed and very historic. The couple who run the hotel also run the restaurant next door, which is also excellent.

This hotel is by far the cheapest and best value, given its plum downtown position, right next to the Guttenburg museum, the main city square and lively weekend market place, easy walk to the river. Don't expect the Hyatt, but a charming tudor style building with lift, aircon and modern toilet and showers. Wifi is a bit hit and miss on the upper floors. Quant antique reproduction furniture in the rooms. No foyer as such, you enter straight into the period style breakfast room. Most room windows open to the outdoor restaurant below, passing musicians and buskers, and distant cathedral bells. The restaurant wraps up around 9pm, and all quiet by 10. No traffic, so don't come by car! Busses at the far ends of the cobble stone plaza.

If you want authentic traditional German hospitality, in the historic centre of Mainz, this is the place to stay! Fabulous hotel with good food, friendly staff, and marvelous history.

Service is okay could be better

Wir waren sehr zufrieden mit dem Hotel. Das Haus hat eine lange Tradition und ist gemütlich eingerichtet. Die Zimmer sind sauber. Der große Vorteil des Hotel Schwan ist die Lage. Es ist direkt im Mainzer Zentrum gelegen und sowohl Rhein als auch der Dom und die umliegenden Einkaufsgassen sind schnell erreichbar. Dennoch ist das Hotel ruhig gelegen, da es nicht direkt in der Fußgängerzone liegt und in dritter Reihe zur Hauptstraße steht. Das Frühstück ist abwechslungsreich und mit dem Service waren wir sehr zufrieden. Die Gastgeber waren sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Insgesamt ist das Hotel sehr empfehlenswert.

Ist ein historisches Hotel, dementsprechend auch die Einrichtung. Es besteht allerdings sehr viel Renovierungsbedarf. Manche Ecken wurden mit Sicherheit über 1 Jahr nicht gesäubert. Viele Spinnenweben und Spinnen in den Zimmern. Bei meiner Ankunft ca. 7 Weberknechte. Die Fenster sind nicht Schaldicht, wahrscheinlich auch nicht isoliert. Den Verkehr hört man durchgehend und auch wenn jemand vorbei geht und am Reden ist. Der Eingang befindet sich übrigens dort wo "Altdeutsche Weinstube" steht. Eine Rezeption wie man sie kennt ist nicht vorhanden. Zimmer werden nicht hergerichtet. Lediglich der Müll wird täglich geleert. Türen müssen abgeschlossen werden wenn man sein Zimmer verlässt, sonst hat jeder Zugang.
