Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern

This hotel fully lives up to its 5-star rating! Highly recommend going out of your way to stay here. The staff went the extra mile to make everything easy and accommodating; they helped with our bags and took them to our room, gave us local restaurant and tourist recommendations that took the expected weather into account, made restaurant reservations for us, and generally made us feel welcome and comfortable. The staff made up our room, left us chocolates and little cakes every day, and turned it down in the evening without us ever running into them. The room itself was beautiful, with amazing views of the lake, a full bathtub and walk in shower, and so many historical details. The room rate also included access to the spa, which had two cedar saunas with different temperatures, four cool off showers, two relaxation areas with views of the lake, and a gym (you could also schedule and pay for massages separately). The bar - and especially the bartender, Carlos - were so fun and welcoming, with great food and drinks. Brasserie Vico on site was an amazing dinner experience. Breakfast was phenomenal!! Fresh local breads and cheeses, fruits, local honey (that you scooped from a whole honeycomb slat), meats, cereals, juices, eggs, and anything else you could possible want. The service, location, beauty, comfort, and experience were incomparable. Edited to add that the front desk staff also upgraded our room upon arrival so that we had a lake view. They were exceptional!

We attended a birthday party at Schweizerhof. The staff were exceptional from the moment we arrived until we left the hotel; just a fantastic experience. The food was top-notch, served 100 people in minutes, and was hot at any time. The service was highly attentive. Truly a five-star hotel with a great soul that translates into the customer experience. Thank you!

We stayed at Hotel Schweizerhof for three nights in January and it was absolutely beautiful. It was an easy walk to the hotel from the train station and the staff were lovely. When we checked in the concierge showed us around the hotel and to our room. We had an extremely comfortable suite with a gorgeous view of Lake Lucerne. There were little snacks and treats left in our room each day and the buffet breakfast had everything. Would definitely stay again!

Deserved a 5-star hotel with excellent location, intimate services, sincere and helpful staff. Everything is so excellent except the additional bed in so called triple room is unexpectedly too soft and the string makes noises whenever you move that cannot sleep well.

I recently chose to stay this hotel through amex platinum. I did not get the earlier room request, but Christmas holidays are busy season. Hotel provided us complimentary drink cards. our stay was wonderful. I like the fact that how family owned hotel has preserved and maintain the old charm and accommodated modern touch in rooms including the bathrooms. I highly recommend this hotel.

This was perhaps the most wonderful hotel we’ve ever stayed at and we have been blessed with staying at many nice hotels. The service was amazing, very helpful, thoughtful and full of wonderful surprises. Location was perfect for Christmas shopping and sightseeing. The hotel is well appointed and so embraces its historical past. And the breakfast buffet is to die for. It was a fantastic experience!

What a wonderful hotel. Stayed their several nights and wished we could have stayed longer. ||The rooms were spacious and immaculately clean.||This is the oldest family run hotel in Lucerne and the staff treated you as part of their family. This includes restaurant, room service and concierge desk staff plus the lift doorman.||We greatly appreciated the assistance we received from the concierge desk in helping us resolve an external issue that was not even associated with the hotel. ||I would fully recommend this hotel; especially to those guests seeking old world charm.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights as an added excursion with the Viking River Cruise. It is one of the most beautiful hotels we have ever stayed in. The charm, history, architecture, is second to none. It is beautifully decorated and located in the heart of old town Lucerne, across from the boat rides on Lake Lucerne. Easily accessible to everywhere you need to go. Did I mention the gorgeous view of the alps? Our room was very quiet and located on the 3rd floor. Our room was themed on the famous musician, Arturo Toscanini, who had stayed there. I believe all of the rooms are themed from famous people who had stayed there. The hallways are some of the longest you will ever see. Everything worked to perfection in the room and we were each provided a complimentary muffin in a small tin can that reflected the history and tradition of the hotel. Each night our room was turned down and each given a small piece of chocolate in a smaller tin can. Breakfast was included in our package and we were disappointed with it. You had the option of ordering off a menu, which we did. Still disappointed. However, we did have drinks in the bar one night with some friends and then had drinks outside the next afternoon overlooking the Lake. Priceless. The entire staff was polite, friendly, and warm. This extends from the front desk to the wait staff to the housekeeping staff. If and when we ever returned, this would be our spot.

The hotel was in a great location and the service was absolutely incredible. We were given drink tickets upon arrival since our room wasn't ready (didn't realize it wasn't for cocktails). The room was perfect. The bathroom may have been as big as the bed area. The treats left and door service chocolate was well received. There was some sort of conference going on so it was rather busy in the lobby at times, but service was never lacking. I'd definitely return!

Beautiful hotel located in a prime spot close to everything - including the lake. The employees were so nice & helpful. This is a historic hotel where each room is decorated based upon a previous guest that stayed there. We stayed here as part of a post Viking Rhine River cruise. Great choice Viking!

The nicest and most chic hotel we stayed in throughout 3 weeks in Europe. The employees gave the best customer service. The rooms are each themed and designed by famous musicians, artists and diplomats. We stayed in the Nik Kershaw Room. Morning breakfasts were exceptionally delicious. The hotel is graciously appointed but, prices correspond. High end at a high price.

This is by far my favorite new hotel. The staff is SO amazing, I don't know if I've ever experienced better customer service. They were friendly and attentive and made us feel so at home. The hotel and rooms are absolutely lovely. They're luxurious and comfortable and the view of the lake and mountains from our room was breathtaking. The location is also very convenient. We walked to everything. You have to stay here when visiting Lucerne, you will not be disappointed.

This is obviously one of the great hotels and locations in the world. The building itself is classy and elegant, with beautiful lakefront exposure. Of course the building is storied and historic, and a plaque outside the front entrance lets you know that the German composer Richard Wagner wrote some of Tristan and Isolde here. There is a big book in each room with special information on famous guests who have stayed in certain rooms, and your room will have a little shrine to that person. In my room stayed the tuba player for the Canadian Brass, so in my little shrine was a tuba mouthpiece he used, concert tickets for a concert that had taken place in Luzern, and a photo of the group. The customer service is impeccable. The lady who checked me in accompanied me all the way to my room (which was in another building, so you have to walk here and there, then an elevator, then through different doors...) and installed me comfortably before running off to let me relax after my flight. The room was very well appointed and had an extremely comfortable bed. Of course everything was very clean and high quality, including the soaps and linens. I didn't pay for this stay, but with a bit of sleuthing I found out that it cost around $560 a night. There is a beautiful ballroom where I played a concert that night, and it was decorated and lit beautifully for the Zaubersee festival. Afterwards I had a nice chablis at the bar, and a tasty turkey sandwich. There's great seating outside if the weather is nice. The only thing I could have done without was the cocktail-hour piano playing to a laptop accompaniment, that didn't quite fit the elegant vibe of the hotel. A lovely stay.

4.5 stars - the nicest of Luzern's historic hotels. Centrally located, and around 170 years old, each of the rooms are themed after a famous guest - our room, the Richard Wagner room, provided a beautiful view of the lake and mountains. Mediocre breakfast.

My family and I had dinner here during while passing through Lucerne. I enjoyed the shrimp cocktail with calypso sauce, and they kindly accommodated my request for fish rather than pork steak after our reservation. However, I found the service to be a bit slow. We found an ant in my sister's bread roll, and I found it embarrassing that my mom had to go up to the service counter to notify the waiters, rather than them coming to us. Also, there are a few too many flies here for a five-star hotel. In any case, our overall experience was still pleasant.

Me and my parents were once again in town, so I paid a visit to the Schweizerhof's Gault Millau-rated Restaurant Pavillon and enjoyed a dessert variation. The menu looks very safe, but the dessert menu looks far more interesting and is quite large! The head chef made me an expanded dessert plate, an exemplary example of the kitchen's varied patisserie, including: - Two kinds of chocolate mousse (good, but no Grand Cru) - Chocolate sorbet with rhubarb and raspberry coulis (very good!) - White chocolate brownie (a bit dry, but good) - Choux pastry - Panna Cotta with raspberry coulis (excellent!) - Mango semifreddo (wonderful taste) The restaurant offers suprisingly good value for money (for a five-star hotel in this location), since my dessert plate cost me just CHF 18.50. You can't order it from the dessert menu, but it can be arranged - just ask the waiter. If you want to really eat stunning haute patisserie in an equally luxurious atmosphere with even better service, then visit the Palace's Michelin-starred Restaurant Jasper. You can order a dessert variation there, too, but pastry chef Nicole Beckmanns sweet dreams are best enjoyed one-by-one. We were in Lucerne for 2 days and 2 nights in November. My first impressions of the hotel were great. The lobby is beautiful and the staff was most helpful. We arrived before checking and the staff let us put our bags in a locked room until we could check in. The only two disappointments about this hotel were the room decor and the breakfast. We were in the "Tracy Chapman" room. Very randomly decorated and had her signature on the bathroom wall. Coming from the elegant lobby, it was quite weird. The size of the room was nice. There was plenty of room to stretch out. The breakfast was nothing special and the servers didnt seem to want to help us or bring us coffee. The location of this hotel is amazing! Right on the lake and close to all the shops and the train station. The bar staff was friendly and upbeat. Stayed November 2015

My stepmother was interned here during WW II, after a hair-raising escape from Austria and occupied Belgium. We started coming here in the 1960s, long after the establishment had been returned to its glory as one of the finest hotels in Switzerland. Today, it is one of the few places from childhood that has kept up its standards, even as Luzern has descended into tacky tourism on all sides. We always ask for a lakefront room. These are huge, with high ceilings and enormous windows. The amenities are what one would expect for the price. The room service is great, and the lobby bar serves fine champagnes. But having said all this, we still prefer to drive or take a boat to one of the more remote villages around the lake to find an anonymous gasthaus with a good, unassuming restaurant. And we almost never come here in summer, when the crowds overwhelm. It's too bad, because the lake still remains one of the world's most spectacular natural beauties.

If you have to think a little bit, unbelievable relaxing. And if it is just for a coffee.

Rare combination of ultra luxury and ultra friendly hotel. The staff here will go above and beyond to ensure your happiness. The bar and front staff have been here forever and have a lot to be proud about. Highly recommended!
