What a treat to stay in a family run hotel with gorgeous food and views and endless walks in the hills and woods as well as a lake to swim in. We travel all the time for work and wound up here because we had a few free days between meetings and flying back to New York for a couple of days made no sense. We were looking for somewhere to stay to kill a few days and some Austrian friends recommended the Seehof and explained it has a famous, creative chef who uses local ingredients and is known for the art on its walls.||||What we found was a little slice of paradise--a wonderful antidote to large chains and crowds of tourists. Even though it's August, it's quiet, breezy and there are very few people in the little village or on the walking trails. The hoteliers pay enormous attention to detail: jugs of water come with mint and lemon, the coffee is excellent, they have blankets for guests to use when sitting outside, deck chairs by the lake, fluffy robes, an elegant water pitcher in the bedroom, vegan soaps in the bathroom, a library stocked with books and they sell their own rye bread and jams to take home. The rooms are spotless and ours has a sofa and balcony. We can't wait to come back. Apparently in the winter this is a great place for cross country skiiing. These few days have been a revelation--it is possible to stumble on perfect, family run, little inn at a reasonable price.
