Senda Monteverde, Monteverde, Costa Rica - Explore & Book

"Monteverde is one of the jewels in the Costa Rica crown for its unique cloud forests and world-class biodiversity. Folk flock here not just for the flora (500 species of orchid alone) and fauna (including many endemic and endangered animals) but for thrills and spills too. This is the birthplace of zip-lining, and there are hanging bridges and a Sky Tram traversing the forest for canopy eye views. Don't miss exploring the incredible Monteverde Cloud Forest and Curi Cancha Reserves for their sheer variety of biological zones and thousands of species. With magnificent long vistas across the central highlands to the Gulf of Nicoya, peaceful mountain lodge Senda Monteverde is the prime place from which to discover these delights and more. 28 rooms and suites are in stand-alone bungalows positioned across flowering landscaped gardens, giving each privacy and space. Spot wildlife from your private deck, traverse the hiking trails up to a private reserve with immense strangler fig trees. You can book night safaris, horse riding, plantation tours and yoga classes. The popular restaurant prides itself on artisanal fare and ultra-low food miles, with good vegetarian options. For couples, there's organic wine and in-house cocktails at sunset; for families, mini-explorer menus and marshmallows by the fire pit at the end of a busy day. Simply the bees knees for nature lovers of all ages. Highs This is intelligent, sustainable luxury: both staff and the organic food are locally grown (as well as over 5,000 native plants), souvenirs come from a women's cooperative, it's plastic free and solar heatedWe really enjoyed meals in the restaurant with its farm-to-table cuisine, which marries Western crowd-pleasers with local dishesOutstanding activities are on offer, with excellent concierge services to help you realise your bucket list dreamsLovely staff. They've thought of everything you'll need, from umbrellas and torches in your room to Wellington boots to borrowComplimentary minibars are a nice touch Lows No swimming poolYou'll have to reserve ahead for a dinner table, or walk 15 mins into Santa Elena for alternativesRooms are more functional than plushly luxurious (no TVs, A/c or designer furniture); the focus, rightly, is on the tranquil settingRooms 1, 2 and 3 are near the roadRenovations and improvements to the restaurant, rooms and reception are expected to finish mid-November; you may experience some minor disruption during this time" - Nadine Mellor

My wife and I had an absolutely incredible stay at Senda Monteverde Hotel! From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm, friendly, and professional, going above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The service was outstanding, and every detail felt carefully thought out.||The property is stunning — beautifully designed cabins surrounded by lush greenery and wildlife. We loved seeing hummingbirds right outside our window and exploring the trails, especially the Aguite trail. The hotel’s commitment to sustainability and native plants makes the whole experience even more meaningful.||Our room was spotless, very private, and the bed was wonderfully comfortable. Dining was another highlight; the food was some of the best we had in Costa Rica, and the restaurant was always accommodating — even preparing early breakfasts for tours.||What made our stay truly special was the personal touch. From thoughtful notes to attentive service, the staff made us feel like we were on a honeymoon. Senda strikes the perfect balance between luxury, intimacy, and being close to nature. We highly recommend it and can’t wait to return!

We loved our stay. Gorgeous rooms and great location. The staff are brilliant and always happy to help. They made a huge effort to provide a great vegan breakfast for us which we really appreciated. We loved the fire pits which made a great place to have a drink and enjoy the evening. Wish we could have stayed longer. Will definitely return!!

Our family (2 adults, 2 teenagers) recently stayed at hotel Senda for 4 nights. It was magical! What a special place! The rooms and bathrooms were huge and immaculate, the beds were comfy, the view from the porch was lovely and there were so many thoughtful touches each day, like hot water bottles in the bed on chilly evenings, complimentary tea and beverages, help with arranging activities and outings - I could go on and on. The hotel manager, Rodolfo was cool and we enjoyed chatting with him. He did an excellent job making sure we had everything we needed. The restaurant serves delicious gourmet meals and makes quite possibly the best hot chocolate you’ll ever have! The grounds were just amazing. If you are a bird/nature enthusiast, you won’t be disappointed. Dozens of bird species, not to mention agouti and coatis just doing their thing. Walking into town was a nice short walk from the hotel. Don’t miss visiting the orchid garden, it was fascinating! Try all of the tour packages too - totally worth it. I would visit again in a heartbeat.

An exceptional resort experience. Hotel Center is situated at an elevation with beautiful views. Each cabin is well designed and nestled in the midst of natural beauty. Hummingbirds came up to the window. Flowers and wildlife co-occupy the grounds. Unlike other luxury resorts, there was an intimate and romantic quality to the experience at Hotel Senda. Even the seemingly dated use of a physical key instead of a card felt special. The staff came to know us and they took extra care to personalize the experience. The trails around the resort were fun to explore. Be sure to leave time for the Aguite trail. The coffee preparation class and yoga class were excellent. It felt like a honeymoon experience.

We stayed at Senda Hotel in Monteverde for two nights and while it was definitely a unique, immersive experience that gives you a true feel for the cloud forest, I wouldn’t personally choose to return.||First, the staff was absolutely wonderful—they went out of their way to make our 7-year-old daughter’s stay special. Each night, they prepared s’mores by the fire pit in what she called the “family room”, a cozy space filled with games and activities that quickly became her favorite part of the stay. We ended each evening there, and it was a lovely touch for families.||The trails throughout the property were another highlight for me—especially the one that connects to the Aguti Wildlife Reserve behind the resort. If you’re into hiking and being surrounded by nature, this hotel is perfect.||That said, there were a few things that didn’t quite work for us. The open-air room design means you hear everything—from wildlife sounds at night to early morning lawn maintenance. One night got particularly cold and we were grateful for the space heater provided in the room.||We also weren’t fans of the restaurant. While the meals were beautifully presented and farm-to-table, we found most of the food bland, and ended up going offsite for dinner and breakfast on our second day.||In general, I realized that Monteverde just wasn’t our favorite destination. The drive to get there is long, curvy, and full of rough roads—definitely aim to arrive before dark, and try to avoid driving during rainy season. One night we came back from dinner and could barely see the road—we were literally driving through a cloud.||In summary, Senda is a beautiful, quaint hotel with wonderful service and a peaceful natural setting. But if you’re traveling with kids and prefer more traditional amenities, or if you’re unsure about Monteverde in general, it may not be the best fit. For us, Monteverde could’ve been a one-night stop, but I know it’s a beloved place for many travelers.

Senda was nothing but great to us. Amazing service from the moment you step in the property. Front desk, cleaning staff, and kitchen staff were all amazing. Food was great. Very private room, and was comfortable for our honeymoon. We got a bottle of champagne with hand-written note from the staff. Would highly recommend to anybody looking for private stay, very close to nature. We could see the ocean from our room on clear days, and plenty of wildlife around the property
