This hotel is in a great location but otherwise is very basic. It has no soundproofing at all and you can easily hear everything people do in the rooms next to you or in the hallway. It does have the benefit of radiator heating, which you can turn off, so it doesn't get as uncomfortably warm as other hotels in Iceland. Our shower drain was clogged, which caused the whole bathroom floor to flood (the bathroom floor also has a drain but it didn't work either). Maintenance got to it immediately, however, and were very friendly and efficient. It was all cleaned up and fixed for our next shower. Food was quite good, although expensive, at the restaurant and there is more variety than a lot of other hotels as well. Good vegetarian options. Breakfast buffet was adequate. You can also get food across the street. The main draw of this hotel for us was the hiking trails that start basically right off the parking lot. You can walk a good distance away for darker skies (the hotel, and unfortunately their new restaurant/gas station across the street, are lit up crazy bright for a place that states it's good for seeing Northern lights - semi trucks also park there and leave their lights on pointing at the hotel). I recommend bringing a flashlight or headlamp to use the trials at night to get to darker skies. Because of the hills you don't have to walk far to block the light and they have good signage. The view of the Milky Way was incredible.

Although a bit dated, thought this hotel was a lovely homely place to stay. Rooms large, heated bathroom floor, clean and good facilities. Food very good for evening meals. Night call to catch Aurora borealis! Nice breakfast and good location for Glacier walks, diamond beach etc.

Our group of nine stayed for one night in September. We got a double, triple and quad room. The rooms were small with not much room for luggage. The bathroom was tiny. The shower was small - good thing none of us were fat! The bed was comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was good - lots of variety. There wasn't much choice in the area but it suited our purposes.

The hotel was lovely, and it had many warm and inviting touches. The restaurant had excellent food, and the views were breathtaking. The room itself was quiet basic, and you can hear everyone else coming and going, but the bed was comfortable, and we slept well. The location was perfect, and we would stay there again.

A great hotel within walking and driving distance to the glaciers. The hotel is peaceful and surrounded by raw beauty. ||All the staff were very helpful and welcoming. The rooms comfortable and clean. The restaurant was outstanding and we had a great dinner and breakfast during our visit. Ample parking available. ||My only regret is we didn't stay for an extra night at the hotel. I would have loved to explore the trails from the hotel to the glacier a little more. Would highly recommend visiting Hotel Skaftafell!

Gem of a hotel within walking distance of three glaciers. Older property that has a feel of being in the Himalayas. Restaurant had gourmet dishes and the breakfast was the BEST we had in Iceland (out of 10 different hotels). Staff accommodating and helpful and they will wake you up if asked for Aurora Borealis sightings. Room is practical for hiking/trekking; higher priced budget-looking hotel.

I loved staying here! The staff was kind and helpful. The room was cozy with a cool view of the glacier. The beds were comfy and the room was clean. The food for breakfast and dinner was delicious. Just be aware that dinner is expensive. I had chicken legs and my friend had arctic char and we both had dessert. Our meal together was close to $200 USD.

Great location and nice hotel. Rooms were comfortable, although could've had more outlets and done a better job with blackout curtains. Dinner was expensive, but amazingly good quality - best meal we had in Iceland. Breakfast was good. If you stay here and have time, take the brief hike from the back of the hotel to see the glacier/mountains etc. Absolutely stunning. We were lucky with good clear weather.
