Hotel Smyrlabjörg

The hotel looks like a 3 star motel specialized in accommodating big groups of package tours who want to visit the glaciers in the southern part. Good location, but it is still isolated. The wind was too strong and made noises, and I couldn't really have a sound sleep. There was no way of adjusting the temperature of the room. There was a free vending machine for Coco and tea.

We stopped in for the breakfast buffet, but did not stay at the hotel. It was fun to look at the taxidermy collection capturing many local bird and animal species. They also had a collection of random local antiques and whale bones which were fun to see. The breakfast buffet includes a few types of homemade breads, and an assortment of meats and cheeses along with the more standard bacon, eggs, and beans. The smoked mackerel was superb! The price was very fair for Iceland ( :

We really enjoyed our stay here while travelling with a tour group. Quaint country side inn. Rooms were comfortable and clean. The included breakfast was delicious. We also liked the complementary coffee and tea.

One of the best, I work as guide a d stay in many hotels around Iceland.||Rooms are great, not the newest one's but always superior clean and nice. The tv usually don't work, but you don't need it there.||The staff is out of this world, well managed and great employees working there, and will make sure your stay will be for happiness.||Breakfast is great and I really recommend the restaurant too. Hotel worth to stay and fantastic location.

This is a three star hotel but unfortunately they charge much higher prices than you'd expect. What you get for that price is probably one of the best views you've ever gotten from a hotel. Also it's definitely made for having a lot of package vacation guests.

The Hotel restaurant food is excellent. We ate both lunch and dinner in the same day. From the margerita pizza, pepperoni pizza, to the lamb burger, the fries were crispy and well seasoned, the fish of the day "cod" was served fresh. The lamb main course was cooked perfectly and so tender. The Skyr cake for dessert was the perfect ending...coffee, tea and Hit chocolate were complimentary. Staff was friendly and efficient.

nice rooms with everything you need in a hotel room. The beds are a little small but still comfortable and the bathroom has the necessary, with a shower a little difficult to close. There is no wi-fi in the rooms and they don't even take data. The dinner despite the high price was disappointing, I ordered a sheep burger and it arrived much smaller than usual with the meat overcooked. Even the chips were not the best. The breakfast (included) was good and with many choices between sweet and savory things.

This review is for the restaurant only. We stopped here for a dinner, and had a great experience: the lamb burgers were amazing, the selection of beers was also good, and the service was impeccable. There were plenty of other items in the menu (from a fish soup to a margarita pizza), but we decided to go for burgers and they were very good. The prices are fair (average prices in Iceland, around 3.3K ISK for the burger). Highly recommended!
