Quirky but welcoming place. We arrived early due to an arriving snow storm and they were accommodating to let us check in really early. The hotel is very traditional and could look like something from the shining with stuffed wildlife around everywhere and weird gnomes etc 😂, but it provides some interest with all the artefacts. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was top notch. So much so that we “borrowed” two loaves of bread and pretty much a pigs worth of bacon to make sandwiches for the day ahead. Everywhere was clean and tidy, rooms were spacious and warm. I love that Iceland has quirky places like this.

Warm and spacious. This hotel was part of the 2 day south coast tour with Nice Travel Room was clean and had heating through the floor. Restaurant food for dinner was delicious and a decent breakfast buffet. Best part was I got to go Aurora hunting and wasn’t disappointed!

The hotel is also a working sheep farm. Great well run business. The room was spacious and very clean. It was very warm in the room when we arrived but we could turn the radiator done so it was a nice temperature later to sleep. The food for dinner and breakfast was good. I highly recommend. It was very windy when we arrived so be prepared.

Hotel Smyrlabjorg is the only hotel in proximity. So, if you need to stay around this area a part of an Iceland ring road journey then there aren't many options at all. The hotel is in isolated location amongst farmland at the base of a cliff - it is a really nice backdrop.||The hotel itself is clean and pleasant but basic. Our room was in the main building (there is also an annex). It was very large and comfortable room but definitely a 3-star hotel. The hotel has a restaurant on site which is open until 9pm. This is important because of the isolated location - there is nowhere else to buy food in proximity. The restaurant was good and had a reasonable menu. The breakfast the next morning was also good quality with some interesting options you don't see everywhere - it was a nice change||Another convenience of the hotel is that a number of the adventure tour companies in the area are co-located at the hotel. This was great as after check out we could leave our car in the same place, go on our glacier tour and then drive on to the next destination afterwards.||Considering where the hotel is and its target market it is pretty hard to fault except for the price. Our bill for a room for one night and dinner for two (with a single glass of wine) was 450 Euro which is expensive, even for Iceland.

Quaint little hotel in the middle of nowhere. It's a family business and they do introduce themselves and the history of the hotel in the welcome book in your rooms. The decor was very interesting, with folklore motifs. You can clearly see where improvements are needed on the rooms (ex. Bathroom, shower area) but all in all you have everything you need in the rooms. Location-wise it's surrounded by nature and if aurora activity is high, then most definitely you can see it, as there is no light pollution. Breakfast had a lot of selections from the farm: paprika cheese, lamb meat, beef tongue, lamb sausage, makrill.

Parking area is spacious, easy to park. Hotel is located near to tourist spot Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. About 10 mins drive. Hotel buffet breakfast is very good. Alot of handmade cookies and cakes, fresh fruits and local meal. Room is clean and tidy. Recommended to stay here.

This is a lovely place to stay I enjoyed it very much. ||My room was nice and big, the bathroom was a bit underwhelming though it could use some love.||The food was incredible, the lamb burger was so good. Also during breakfast I highly recommend the lamb sausage, just amazing. ||Location is just off the ring road maybe 30 mins after jokulsarlon. ||One downside was no wifi in the rooms - only in the common areas. I don't think this was communicated properly.

Stayed here as a pre-arranged hotel for the overnight stay on our 2-day South Coast tour from Reykjavik. The family ownership history is clear to see. We had a triple room booked which consisted of a super-king bed plus single. Was a nice surprise to have a larger bed than expected. The decor and furniture in the room was a bit of a mish-mash, and the whole place could do with a refresh, but otherwise it met the sleeping accomodations need. Bathroom was functional and clean. There are no facilities for a cup of tea in the room - you have to go to the dining room area and not all the goodies were available - such as tea bags. Dinner was OK - nothing to write home about. One young lady (short with dark hair) was a dynamo and moved with pace to deliver the meals and serve customers - she was a real stand out.|Breakfast buffet had plenty of options but struggled at times to keep restocking specific food items with the volume of hungry tourists. |If I had to stay here again I would because options are few in this area and its not terrible, but it could do with a little improvement and refresh on multiple fronts.
