"Beyond Chic: Private Island Romantic Bliss This private island features stunning views of Mount Otemanu and Matira Bay from its own motu just a few minutes' boat ride across Bora Bora's truly stunning fifty shades of blue (one minute it is turquoise, the next emerald or aquamarine) from sister resort Sofitel Marara. The private property is the perfect pick for romantic getaways (it's geared toward couples, and children are not allowed). Privacy and intimacy are emphasized here with only 31 bungalows (20 are overwater, another 10 are located on a lush garden setting on a hill with stunning views) and one luxury villa that while not overwater, features direct lagoon and sandy beach access and a private jacuzzi (the only one on the property). There is no swimming pool, but guests can use the pool and all amenities at the Marara resort via free water shuttle. Should you not wish to leave your little slice of paradise, however, the onsite Manu Tuki restaurant does excellent French Tahitian fare; order lobster anything. There is also a bar, the Mako. Whether staying overwater or on the hill, the layout is the same, and all rooms feature contemporary Polynesian decor, gorgeous wood floors, and luxury toiletries in oversize bathrooms. Overwater bungalows also boast glass viewing panels in the floors and direct access into the lagoon. Make sure to book the “Romantic Soiree” for one night. It combines sunset champagne on top of the hill, followed by a romantic dinner on the beach under the stars. The breakfast delivered by canoe also is a must."

Closed. Abandoned. Neglegted site. Broken roofs, broken windows, mattresses, rubbish, plastic on the beach, metal parts on the sea bed, etc.
It's really upsetting that the local government let big corporations build these massive structures on a site of outstanding natural beauty, ruining the forest and the coral reef. And then allows them to leave all that rubbish behind for years (decades?) when the hotel is no longer profitable.

Best month of my life!
I originally planned to stay here for one week. ended up staying for a month! it was the most incredible time I've ever had in my life, peaceful and quite. Just what I needed at the time. I stayed at the club Med which is no longer there but the entire island was where I actually felt I was.
Took a jeep tour through the jungle, talked to the locals spent time in little tiny grocery stores along the side of the road and never felt more at home.
At the end of each week I kept calling my travel agent and requesting one more week please!
I arrived after spending a few weeks in the Caribbean. as much as I love the Caribbean for their diving and snorkeling you can't beat Bora Bora. If it's on your bucket list please move it to the top you will not be disappointed.

Great staff and a very pleasent space to enjoy the amazing ocean's shades of blue and green... the pool bar is also good. Bungalows are spectacular; very quiet and perfect to relax! 🏝🌅 a place to never forget!!!

Spent some of our honeymoon here over Christmas 2016. We had the best time. The resort is definitely showing signs of age and is in need of some renovations. In the end we weren't there for the hotel room, we were there for the view and it can't be beat from the Sofitel Marara.

Absolutely beautiful place! Everyone is super friendly and happy. The little beach huts were just so precious. I loved the showers- very spacious and good water pressure. The bed was heavenly. One of the best sleeps I have had. If it wasn't such a beautiful destination I would have curled up there the entire time.
We also saw the show the one night and it was out of this world. Definitely a must if you come to this side of the world. It's mind blowing the way they can move their bodies. The traditional food cooked that night was also excellent. Seconds were a definite.
The hotel offered free shuttles to the islands restaurants in the evening for dinner which is great if you are adventurous with cuisines.
We also got a boat trip to the private island which is also postcard perfect. And they have a really cute little beach set up.
The only let down was the breakfast every morning. It would run out and no one was really there to replenish. Probably due to under staffing with the renovations that are ungoing. The manager received the negative comments well and immediately looked into the reasons behind the problem. He was extremely approachable and apologetic.
All in all though. It was a phenomenal little peace of paradise. I would definitely come back. Looking forward to seeing all the progress with the renovations

Pass if you can. The concierge/front desk staff are unhelpful at best, if not rude, and the manager is nowhere to be seen. Food menus are limited, the food is not particularly good (overly greasy) and it is overpriced. This place is long in the tooth, with many visible problems with the rooms (more or less annoying) such as sewage smell coming from the shower... While it is due for a refresh soon, it may not change the value much, unless there are more profond changes.
The only redeeming factor is the wait staff that is exceptionally nice.

While there are nicer resorts in Bora Bora the service is great at the Sofitel. Our over water bungalow was damaged in a storm but the hotel made every effort to accommodate us. They put us in the best bungalow available, refunded any cost differences, and took extra special care of us. We were very happy in spite of the change in room.

Closed closed closed!!! Why doesn’t Google update this? We walked from our neighboring hotel (Royal Bora Bora which is a hot mess in and of itself) to escape and have dinner elsewhere. Closed and deserted. Looks like an abandoned urban explorer paradise with wild dogs roaming around.
