Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich (Guangzhou, Guangdong Province) 3 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It says something about the state of the business world, and the world in general, that something like the Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich is no longer the least bit surprising. Not that it’s unremarkable in any way: this gleaming twin-towered colossus of a hotel is said by many visitors to count among a small handful of the world’s finest (and most extravagant) hotels. But where else but Guangzhou would you expect to find such a place?" - Tablet Hotels

A true slice of luxury, from the moment you walk into the Sofitel, the calm elegance of the space sets the tone — soft lighting, gentle music, and that signature scent that instantly feels like relaxation. The rooms are spacious and beautifully designed. The service is where Sofitel really shines. The staff are warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, always one step ahead without being intrusive. I had a chat with Julia, Guest Relations Manager and she was very welcoming. She looks like 莫文蔚 (Karen Mok)! Overall we had a great time with our stay at Sofitel Guangzhou.

We stayed three nights at the hotel during a family holiday (2 adults and 2 kids) and booked the Artist Suite, which was spacious, impeccably clean, and offered a stunning view of the city. We needed a rollaway for one of the children, and the other slept on the king bed with us. The hotel surprised us with a birthday cake for our daughter, a thoughtful touch that made the stay extra special. We had lounge access, though we didn’t use it much as we were out sightseeing. While the immediate area lacked walkable attractions, several malls and sights were just a 10–20 minute taxi ride away. Breakfast was a buffet with a great variety of options. One of our children has a peanut allergy, and although communication was initially difficult, my wife’s Chinese helped resolve a minor scare. As an English speaker, I got by, but most staff spoke limited English. The pool and amenities were excellent. Overall, it was a fantastic stay—and booking with points made it great value for money.

a repeat client. every time i am in GZ, Sofitel will be my top choice due to service. Location is OK. I found executive lounge and cafe staffs are of the most helpful. Rooms are great, Chinese restaurant staffs are not as welcome, but it made up by the Cafe Manager, we moved to the Cafe due to lack of service at the Chinese restaurant, received warm welcome and helpful service. I would like to thank the Cafe restaurant manager (not sure his name, evening shift), he's very polite, professional. Will be back, however will avoid Canton fair period for sure.

I hereby recommend the executive lounge of this hotel! The service provided by Niki is outstanding—she maintains a warm, gentle, and meticulous attitude throughout the entire experience. Whether consulting about the lounge’s supporting facilities, requesting customized drink options, or asking for local travel guides, she responds thoroughly with professionalism and patience, greatly enhancing the overall stay experience.

The location was a bit troublesome, had to walk ages to cross the road and there weren't many food options around...or you could taxi around. The room that I booked had access to an "exclusive" floor for breakfasts or other activities. However the breakfast provided on that floor was underwhelming and lack options; whereas the "common" floor provided many more options, but obviously more crowded and noisy. This then brings us to the quality of the breakfast, I basically had mine on the "common" floor everyday (stayed there for 5 nights) due to more options available, it was buffet styled breakfast. The quality of food was hit and miss; some of the food you had to pick the ingredients and get the chef to cook for you, but then they would often accidentally give it away to someone else...which was not helpful at all. They also lack the the different options of Chinese tea, surprisingly. The bakery was bad, felt like chewing on plastic with some of them...however the best part of was the fruits, watermelon and dragon fruit were my favourite, they also had melon and pineapple (soemtimes with plums and guavas). The room itself was ok, like pretty standard and was big enough for one person, the bed was huge and was my favourite, they also offered different options/way to help you sleep, including scented spray, eye mask, ear plugs (but you had to request them); I slept so well. With the room type I picked I received "welcome gifts" which were just some fruits, plum and a few grapes, was hoping for more to be honest. They also offered free shows polish and shirt ironing services but I didn't get to use them this time. The bathtub and shower were AMAZING. The bathtub was deep enough and allowed me to sit and relax and reflect. Shower was powerful and managed to keep the water inside the shower itself. They also had a Bluetooth speaker that allowed me to play some music inside the room. Room keeping on the other hand....i had my room cleaned and tidied twice, they didn't replenish my bottles of water on one occasion and I had to phone the front desk after returning to my room late and thirsty, and had to wait for them to bring them to me, expecting they should have been replenished. Also they could so with a bit more of writing paper and ink on the pens, I had to request another pen after a few sentences whilst on call and working from my room. The walls between the rooms were quite thin and I often woken up by my neighbours slamming the door and chatting at 3 am, I reported it and thats what they said, thin walls...but I expected more from them, like compensation or complementary drinks. The bar at the hotel (on the 8th floor) was alright, it was big enough but the drinks selection was lacking too, do not expect fancy cocktails or hand crafted beers. However we ordered two beers and they came with a wide selection of bar snacks, fried fish skins, peanuts and some other nuts. Unfortunately I didn't get to use the bar on higher floor simply didn't have the time to, I wish they open for longer at least till 1am, all of them close at 23:00... The gym was 24hours which was convenient, however they need more equipment for a hotel that size...also it helps with stronger air conditioning. Having said that, they did provide refrigerated towels and water, so that's a plus. The pool seemed big enought but didn't get to use it this time. Services were alright, pretty average, with the room type I picked and being their member, I kinda expected to be greeted with more perks. The "special lane" for checking in/out had no staff, waited there only for other people to push in front of me.

Issue with flights missed first 2 nights, was charged which was fine, however I tried to call but every time I said hello in English they would hang up. Then when I arrived they tried to charge me 3000 yen for no show and to pay for the room, it took 20 minutes of back and forth after a long flight for them to let it go, the room was good but the shower flooded the whole bathroom and the bath was partly broken. And climate control didn’t work. Had another booking 5 days later for another 4 nights, went to the desk to cancel, and they said you had to call or only Online. Then when I called they did th same thing and hung up, after 20+ calls I got through they said I could cancel but wanted to charge another 2000 yen for the fee. Not happening. Not happy with the hotel, rude on the phone, but better service a cheaper places to stay!

Disappointing Stay – Not Up to the Usual Sofitel Standard Unfortunately, this stay did not live up to the Sofitel name. Having stayed at Sofitel properties around the world as my preferred hotel brand, I found this location in desperate need of renovation and upgrading to meet Sofitel’s usual high standards and justify its rates. The room was in poor condition, with several maintenance issues — including a non-functioning shower — and the overall housekeeping quality was below expectations. Equally concerning was the lack of professionalism and hospitality from staff across departments, particularly within Club Millésime. As an Accor Plus Diamond member, I had made several requests months in advance, none of which were acknowledged or fulfilled. Sadly, this experience has left me very disappointed, and I will be choosing alternative accommodation on my next visit.

Nice comfortable hotel. The view from the room I stayed is superb, overlooking the city from Level 30. On the positive side, this hotel is clean, spacious and easy to access to the other parts of the cities using cab. On the negative side, there is a fair bit of noises even in the wee hours and smell of cigarettes or cigar at the corridor.
