Sofitel Montevideo Casino Carrasco & Spa (Montevideo, Uruguay) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"A century after its original opening this spectacular palace hotel is back in business as the Sofitel Montevideo Casino Carrasco and Spa, and it turns out a Parisian accent is a perfect complement for its extravagant historicist architecture. Underneath all the century-old grandeur, of course, is a perfectly modern luxury hotel, with all the comforts and services that that implies: Sofitel’s SoSpa, the grand and multifaceted Restaurante 21, a pair of swimming pools, and an absolute surplus of meeting and events space. Just outside is the Rambla, the city’s coastal avenue and promenade, and beyond that, the beach." - Tablet Hotels

One of my favourite hotels. Beautiful historical building, excellently restored. Rooms are comfortable and immaculate. Service is attentive and professional. Highlight to me is the breakfast, which is fantastic. Carrasco is safe, upmarket and quiet, with a few nice restaurants within walking distance. More central areas are less than half an hour by car (uber works really well in Montevideo). Some rooms are beginning to show a bit of wear and tear, but I suppose this is to be expected and should be remedied soon).

I recently stayed at this hotel in Montevideo and was genuinely impressed by its beautifully designed, architecturally remarkable building right on the Rambla. The entrance hall is stunning, and the rooms are exactly what you would expect from a five-star property: comfortable, elegant, and well equipped.||Breakfast was good, though not outstanding. The only surprising flaw was that my room had a chocolate wrapper and a small plastic ball left behind by the previous guests—items that were clearly overlooked during cleaning. Apart from this isolated incident, the overall cleanliness was excellent.||One important point: the hotel is located about 30–45 minutes from the city center, depending on traffic. Had I known this in advance, I might have chosen a different five-star hotel downtown. But if the distance doesn’t bother you, this is a wonderful place to stay and easy to recommend.

I expected a far more refined and luxurious experience; regrettably, the hotel missed the mark in several key areas: The furniture looked tired, there were no small wash towels provided for the shower, no steamer to unwrinkle clothes, and the worst part was the spa sauna—only one small sauna was working, shared by men and women. I would have strongly preferred the privacy of separate sauna rooms for females and males. Additionally, the staff at both the restaurant and the spa lacked a friendly attitude.

I stayed in the hotel for only 1 night. The exterior is stunning and the lobby is impressive. The staff was friendly. The guest room itself was very underwhelming, tired decor, very worn and overdue for a refresh, poor quality towels and linens

Sofitel Montevideo Casino Carrasco & Spa offers a beautiful blend of historic‑palace charm and modern luxury — from its elegant architecture and seafront location to its heated pools, spa facilities and beach‑side dining. The rooms are comfortable and refined, and the overall atmosphere invites relaxation and indulgence. Definitely a top choice for a restful and luxurious stay in Montevideo.

The hotel location is excellent and the views are great but the hotel itself is outdated, and the rooms do not feel very clean. The hotel beds desperately needs new pillows, the current pillows hardly provide any support.

Dear Accor Guest Experience Team, I would like to formally report a deeply disappointing and unacceptable experience during my recent stay at Sofitel Montevideo Casino Carrasco & Spa. I had booked a Junior Suite, expecting the comfort, and high standards traditionally associated with Sofitel. However, the room that was assigned to us was clearly not in an acceptable condition for a luxury property. It presented serious issues including: • a strong and unpleasant odor coming from the bathroom • visible lack of cleanliness in multiple areas • poor maintenance, including deteriorated shower sealing and damaged fixtures • dirty carpet and stained floors • marked and poorly maintained walls • an overall worn and neglected appearance These conditions made the stay extremely uncomfortable and completely incompatible with what Sofitel promises as a luxury experience. Because of this, I made the difficult decision to cancel my reservation and leave the hotel immediately. This is something that has never happened in my life. I have never before had to leave a hotel due to unacceptable conditions, and certainly did not expect this from a Sofitel Suite, especially while staying in another country, relying on the trust and reputation of the brand. would also like to acknowledge that the front desk team provided exceptional and discreet service. They were very understanding of the situation, handled it professionally, and cancelled our reservation without any difficulties. Another room was kindly offered, but given the overall condition we found in the assigned room, we chose to leave the hotel instead.

I’m baffled that the Sofitel in Montevideo carries the same name as the brand I’ve trusted for years. The front desk staff set the tone right away with curt, condescending service that made check-in feel like an inconvenience to them. Housekeeping wasn’t any better; requests went unanswered, and the team seemed impossible to reach. Breakfast was the final frustration. The staff spent more time chatting with one another than paying attention to guests, leaving tables waiting while they caught up with their coworkers.||This “grand dame” of Montevideo may have a storied past, but it’s coasting on old reputation. The current service level is nowhere near what travelers expect from Sofitel, and it shows at every turn. I wouldn’t return.
