Hotel Solar dos Mascarenhas

I am truly happy to have chosen this hotel for a one- night stay in Vila Vicosa. It is perfectly located between the Paco Ducal and the Vila Vicosa fortress. There are lots of cool art pieces around the common areas as well as a small library where you can leave a book and take a book. |The breakfast was also a lovely buffet with local cheeses and the most tasty pastries, scones and cakes. And the lovely Karine was beyond helpful in arranging transfers from Borba and to Estremoz as public transportation is virtually non-existent on weekends. I was also able to leave my luggage in the hotel so I could enjoy the sightseeing backpack-less. They also have a lovely pool and seem to be very much child-friendly. Would happily return to stay here again.

Our favourite hotel in Alentejo. We stayed there for the first time in 2011 during our honey moon. We came back after nearly a decade with our kids, nothing had changed or only for the better. Since then we come nearly every year and we start our summer holidays in magic Vila Viçosa staying at the Solar. Excellent location, good value for money and great hosts! We can only recommend 👍

Lovely quiet hotel, cozy rooms, comfortable mattress and pillows. Breakfast was absolutely delicious, lots of beautiful art around and lovely tea room. staff was very friendly

This is a lovely hotel with very friendly service. There was a free tea and coffee table, a nice pool and great rooms. I liked the elegant sculptures which were around the common ares - many of which were for sale. A very nice ambience.

The hotel combines two elements within the building - traditional at the front, recent build at the rear. This creates a non-standard feel which actually works quite well. It is both welcoming and comfortable, is well located in the centre of the town and our breakfast was excellent.

The hotel is nicely located at the city centre close to the palace and the fortress. It's got a lovely reception area and all the way to the rooms (corridors and other common areas) is beautifully decorated and well maintained. Our room though I found that was very basic in design if I compare it with the hotel in general. Entrance door to our room gave us tough times in closing when leaving the room. Our friends at the room next to us as soon as they entered their room, they noticed that the interconnecting doors between their room and the one next to them were unlocked! They called the reception and the hotel fixed the problem immediately.||Breakfast was ok. There was coffee available all day long to take with you any time of the day. Overall it was just fine for one night stay. No thrills.

Solar dos Mascernhas seems like a large mansion in the small town of Vila Vicosa in Portugal. The house was converted into a luxurious hotel, with a new modern wing built behind it. ||We had visited on 31 May which is a tourist season in Vila Vicosa due to a long weekend. The hotel was completely booked, yet at 60€ it was a good deal. ||The rooms are spacious and comfortable, each having it's own balcony giving a nice view of the garden.||The lounge and reception area is in the old wing and rooms are in the new wing. There are a few halls to relax and enjoy after party next to the pool. The breakfast was sumptuous and filling. ||The receptionist was manned by energetic and welcoming staff. ||We had to extend our stay by a day and the hotel was completely booked that day. The owner allowed us to stay in her own mansion which is just above the reception area. That was very kind of her. ||The location of this hotel is very central, right next to city square. Walking distance from the castle and palace. ||I had come for business but ended up having a very relaxed and comfortable stay.
