The best way to explore Brussels' opulent Art Nouveau past is on a streetcar - SilverKris

"Commissioned by Armand Solvay with carte blanche for the architect, this opulent residence exemplifies total design control—every detail from furniture and carpets to tableware and even the doorbell was overseen by the designer—resulting in sumptuous interiors of onyx and bronze; the UNESCO World Heritage site offers guided and self-guided visits (reserve well in advance), though the façade may be under renovation at times." - Clodagh Kinsella

One of the best of the Horta ‘houses’ I’ve been to. The details are magnificent, the stain glass windows stunning.Everything has been restored with such care for the detail. The woodwork and wallpaper is immaculate. They have a very strange policy that you can only take photos in the last ten minutes? Of the tour, while everyone is in the same area so makes it difficult to to do so.

How on earth can a house be so beautiful? - these are my thoughts while on the landing stairs of Hotel Solvay. Of course Horta never disappoints. If you want to be inspired and step back to history on this well-preserved space of luscious metalwork and butterfly canopy, come and have a visit (by reservation) in Hotel Solvay.

TRUE GEM. MUST VISIT. Exceptional architectural masterpiece by Horta! Maison Horta in Brussels is a harmonious blend of elegance and innovation. The intricate Art Nouveau details and thoughtfully designed spaces make for a unique and memorable visit. Impeccable service and a true gem for those seeking a cultural and historical experience in the heart of Brussels. #BrusselsExperience #ExploreBrussels #VisitBelgium #BrusselsAdventures #DiscoverBrussels #CityBreak #CulturalCapital #TravelBelgium #BrusselsSights #HistoricCity #EuroTrip #TravelInspiration #BelgiumTourism #BrusselsLandmarks #ArtNouveau #UrbanExploration #BrusselsVibes #TravelTips #LocalFlavors

Absolute masterpiece and a must-visit place if you're in Brussels. A lot of visitors and taking photos is allowed only 10 minutes before the tour ends( it's 40 minutes overall ). Make sure to reserve a visit on the website.

We were hoping to visit this Art Nouveau gem on our next visit to Brussels - as huge lovers of Victor Horta's work, we were really excited to see it had reopened. However, children under 10 are prohibited, which makes it impossible to plan a visit if you don't live in Brussels (or travel with a babysitter??). While we can understand that very young children aren't allowed to preserve the house, imho children from 7-8 years old are well able to behave themselves, especially for such a short visit. At least our 8 and 12 yo certainly are. But judging by the other comments, it seems the staff of the museum hardly trusts adults to behave themselves...

House of super-rich industrialist Armand Solvay, inventor and developer of soda chemicals, designed by Victor Horta, master of Art Nouveau architects in Belgium, one of his early designs in the style. Total work of art inside and out, with no expense spared. Usually the interior is closed to the public, but certain days during the year there are tours, coincident with those of other Art Nouveau buildings in Brussels. Located on grand Haussmanian tree-lined avenue, the façade is not to be missed on any tour of Art Nouveau or architecture in the Belgian capital.

An excellent example of an art nouveau house. Maybe the best by this architect. No photos allowed thought so I drew these 😉 honest!!!

Finally made it having booked to visit Hotel Solvay with the Nouveau Art Pass (not a straightforward procedure) and required a second visit to Brussels - thank you Eurostar deal. Lovely staff understandably anxious about preserving the splendour of the place but a bit chaotic in explaining initial rules and I did not understand why we could only take photos in the last 10 minutes. Please be aware a tour which is more expensive allows visitors to see more of the property and under the Art Pass it is a guideless visit. Otherwise it was fantastic and thank you staff.
