We had a fantastic stay here. The rooms are well-equipped and very comfortable. The staff is very friendly and they genuinely care about your experience. The decor and ambiance fit the town perfectly and the location could not have been better. You can walk everywhere, and there are plenty of restaurant options nearby. Highly recommended and will definitely be back here.

I liked it, but my partner didn't. It was boutique-style hotel surrounding in internal paved garden courtyard (which was lovely). The room was along a corridor and felt a bit like a monk's cell. No external windows just a wooden shutter opening to the corridor. Room and bathroom felt a bit compact and dingy. Noise insulation was minimal. Wouldn't fancy it if a stag party was in the premises. But as I said I quite liked it. The restaurant and bar both spilled attractive seats and tables into the courtyard with impressive standalone open fires adding colour. The buffet was limited but hot egg dishes were cooked to order and delivered to your table. Hotel location was pretty good, two minutes walk from the main square. Added note for history, noted author Graham Greene was a previous resident and has a wall note commemorating the fact among other famous ex-residents. Our Man in Mexico.

A charming hotel set in an old colonial building. The room was lovely, spacious and with everything needed for a pleasant stay. Breakfast choice was limited but the food was very good as was the food served up in the evening. The hotel is in a central location so easy to walk to the central squares and pedestrianised streets. The town is ata altitude so can be cold at night but the room was at a pleasant temperature. It was a bit cold in the courtyard in the evening but was atmospheric. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We initially booked two nights at Sombra del Agua but ended up extending our stay to five nights due to the outstanding service we received. The hotel’s location is perfect, and the rooms are spacious, clean, and beautifully designed.||A special shout-out to the restaurant Tarumba staff: Carlos and Andrea made every meal a delight with their attentive and friendly service. Chef Jorge, your food is nothing short of exquisite—we savored every bite! We had a special dinner on September 29th for my wife’s birthday, and Carlos made sure it was an unforgettable experience.||Axel and the staft from the front desk were incredibly helpful, ensuring a smooth check-in and providing great recommendations throughout our stay. And lastly, thanks to Eugenio, the parking lot guard, for his vigilance—he saved us from a potential battery issue by letting us know we left the headlights on.||Thank you, Sombra del Agua, for making our stay so memorable. We can’t wait to return!

This is a tranquil place to stay, especially the courtyard. When one is on a trip, visiting and travelling from places to places; it is wonderful to take a relaxing break in the courtyard.|The hotel staffs are pleasant and very helpful. You can arrange day trips with the hotel staff. My only suggestion to the hotel management is contract with a better-quality tour company.|Here comes the best part of this hotel. It has restaurant Tarumba. Chef Jorge is a gastronomic magician, no exaggeration. So good, it can't be express in words. We have been to many places in Mexico, including Mexico City many times. On this trip, we have meals in other San Christobal restaurants during our stay. The end result is there is no point to try any more other restaurants. So, we decided having our last two dinners in here. In addition, Cristina and Victoria were very attentive and patient with our broken Spanish. Nevertheless, we became friends. Opps, how can I forget to mention Antonio; always gave my wife a bit more wine! We shall be back.

We didn't stay here, we visited just for dinner as a group of 20. Hotel and restaurant seemed very nice and luxurious. Food was amazing and employees were friendly. Located in the center of the town. We didn't have any safety issues. Since we visited as a group, I am blind to the prices.
