It is rare for me to leave a negative review, but months before we arrived a red flag went up when the hotel didn't respond to a simple question I asked - twice. Fortunately when we arrived, we met one of the house staff who had been cleaning our room, otherwise there was nobody at the front desk. This was true throughout most of our stay. Usually the keys for the various rooms would be left at the desk for self check-in. I am sure at one time this hotel was beautiful, but it is in desperate need of updating. I'm not sure of the other rooms, but for $300 per night I expected better. The view was outstanding, but that's true of many of the hotels in Grindelwald. The room was tiny and until I complained the shower was cold with very little pressure. This was rectified the next night. The bathroom door was heavy frosted glass and in need of repair as it had to be swing all the way open or it would spring back and hit you. No modern upgrades and I was glad I brought adapters so we could charge our USB items. Forget being able to connect to Netflix or Prime or any news channels in English. They did have wifi.
The brightest part of the whole experience was the 3 hotel staff who were always super busy cleaning and cooking and being part-time managers. Specifically Carolina. She saved the entire experience for us. Kind and as helpful as she could be! The breakfast is also very good!
The hill is steep to the hotel. You really don't need to get that kind of height to get the beautiful view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau though. There are many accomodations with views.
In all my travels, this was the first time I've ever left a day early. I should have requested a refund but that requires finding the manager or owner first and that was impossible.
