The location is probably perfect but this hotel needs more work. The room was very basic and in average condition, the bathroom was in a terrible state with original 1970 fitout and there was no hot water. I had a room overlooking the main street and you definitely should consider ear plugs.||There is no place for smoking unless you go out the front, the staff speak no english and the breakfast was just woeful. Not much positive but its liveable for a night.

We spent four nights in this hotel, which we found on foot rather than online. The price was discounted for us because we agreed to a four night stay. The breakfast included with the room was basic with toast, scrambled eggs and coffee. The room on the top floor had a great balcony that opened onto the port so we could was the cruise ship Norweigian Sun both coming and going. The balcony was the best hotel feature. WiFi only worked intermittant in the room so we had togo out to the exterior seating area to get online. TV worked fine though. Nice people at the front desk. Buffet restaurant for lunch downstairs from hotel lobby.

It is by no means a modern hotel with modern facilities, but it has character, and judging by the postcards displayed in reception, it has certainly had an extensive international clientele.||I believe one has to take into account the star rating of the hotel and the services it provides. For this reason, I give it an Excellent””. Why? From the moment of my arrival, I was welcomed in English (even though I had said nothing up to this point), was advised of where the sights were, and where the shopping centre was located.||The hotel itself appears to be an old converted building, which rather than detracting, has been used to create its unique character. It has a wonderful public lobby and courtyard in addition to its rooms. The rooms themselves are quite dated, and reminiscent of Eastern European rooms, but fully serviceable for all needs. My only major concern I had was the stability of the bed, which protested with worrying noises of collapse when sat upon or lay in. ||A complimentary served breakfast was provided, which meant a small amount of food, and a restriction of one drink. So, if you are a big breakfast eater, you will be disappointed.||Very well located for all the major sights and shopping.

I stay here quite a bit on frequent visits to Arica. Inexpensive, clean, friendly. Great central location one block off the peatonal walkway (city social epicenter). The personable staff is rather accommodating. Simple Chilean style breakfast included. The clientele is principally Chilean with a good smattering of internationals travelling the Pan-American Highway..

Stayed while on a motorbike tour and this was the worst hotel to date. ||The location is good near the main pedestrian street which is a plus.||The bedroom was pretty basic and the beds not very comfy. The breakfast was very ordinary !||I would try another place if I was in Arica again !

We have been staying at the Sotomayor for more than twenty years. Every time we take the grueling bus ride over the Andes (15,358 feet) down to the Pacific, we are warmly greeted by a wonderful staff. The beds feel like clouds and we sleep like gods.||||We returned yesterday to Arica to enjoy Christmas by the sea. After eleven hours of sleep we are ready for the many pleasures of Arica.

This a old hotel in the Arica downtown, is not really expensive, but isnt cheap, the rroms arent the best. The great value of this hotel is their ubication, because it is near of the restorants, shops, pubs, bars and really near of the coast whit beautifull views of the big Arica rock, called El Morro.
