Stayed at this well run hotel for 7 days commencing the 30th November 2025 for my birthday and my sons birthday ||When we arrived we was greeted by Anna a lovely lady and given an upgraded room on the 12th floor my room was 1214. The room its self was immaculately clean with nice linen on the beds and great views out of two windows and very quiet. The power shower was also very good.||The hotel itself is centrally located and in a good position by the San Francisco Hilton. The hotel seems to have had an extensive makeover recently, and all the staff was brilliant along with the hotel security. ||The hotel also as a bar/restaurant attached where Mariano looked after us perfectly on several occasions well done Mariano. ||Thanks to you all |Steve

had a 3 Night stay at this hotel recently. while the rooms are clean, the size is too small( I stayed in a double queen bed room). On the first day, there was no room service, even to get water we were asked to go down and take it. Breakfast has just 2-3 items and if you are a vegetarian, you won't have it. the restaurant was under renovation so we had to hunt for hotels everyday for dinner. The only good part is the location of the hotel. it's jus 5 mins from union square, and you can take buses here to visit all SFO places. won't recommend if you are travelling with family. if you are travel alone and need fast access to places then you should stay here.

Very disappointing experience. The safety deposit box in the room was defective and had to be forced open. The staff member on the phone was unfriendly and showed no willingness to help.The room key malfunctioned several times, and the shower causes loud noises and severe wall vibrations. Instead of fixing the issue, the hotel suggested using less hot water. This hotel has completely lost its 4-star service and maintenance level.At check-out, I was told that my room had not been paid for, even though it was already settled. The staff seemed confused and clearly did not know what they were doing.

Not my first time at this vintage hotel, but stayed at a medium size room this time. They've done a fair job of updating the rooms, nothing too fancy. The closet and drawer spaces are limited, and the table is tiny. But I love the sturdy designer chair and that the windows actually tilt open for fresh pacific night air. Bed is great, bring your USB charger though if you have several devices.

This was one of the worst hotel experiences my partner and I have ever had — not because of the room, but because of the hotel’s extremely incompetent and careless billing process. My partner booked Hotel Spero through Trip.com, and the reservation was fully prepaid, including the resort fee. This was clearly stated in the booking confirmation. Despite this, after we checked out, the hotel still charged my partner’s credit card for the resort fee, even after we explained multiple times that everything had already been paid. What makes this even worse is that the staff didn’t bother to properly check their system. Instead of resolving the issue, they went ahead and charged the card anyway — and then somehow charged AGAIN for the entire stay. Yes, my partner was double charged for a fully prepaid reservation. When we asked for a refund, the response was basically, “Contact your bank, we can’t do anything.” This is absolutely unacceptable. This was their mistake, yet they refused to take responsibility or make any effort to fix it. After we noticed the charges on the credit card, we tried to contact the hotel directly to resolve the issue. Instead of acknowledging their mistake or helping us, they completely ignored us and blocked our attempts to contact them. That behavior is beyond unprofessional and feels like they were actively avoiding accountability. Now my partner is stuck disputing charges with the bank because the hotel staff was either too lazy or too careless to do their job properly. If you’re thinking of staying here, be extremely careful. Check your credit card statements closely, because you might end up paying twice for your stay like we did. We will never stay here again and do not recommend this hotel to anyone!!!!!

This is my 2nd stay at this IHG Hotel. The service here just gets better and better. I would like to specifically mention Anna and Kathryn, for their kindness and overall excellence at their job. Also, Jay, when I checked in, was super nice and accommodating. The hotel is an old, grand building, and the lobby is spectacular, if you stop and take a look at the ceiling. The rooms are a little on the smaller, cozy side, and the beds are super-comfortable. The bathrooms in the rooms are modern and everything worked great. The location is a little sketchy, so always be aware of your surroundings, but that is pretty normal nowadays no matter where you go in San Francisco. In all, I'd stay here again, and give this property a Five Star review.

Great old building however the execution of the remodeled rooms is a bit rough. Lobby is stunningly beautiful. Staff are delightful. Rooms are small and bathrooms are shoe-horned together. You can’t stand in front of the bathroom sink because it’s so small. On the up side - walk in, tiled shower appropriate for the room decor. Location is abysmal. You’ll be OK if you walk straight down Stockton to Union Square. Otherwise, in any other direction, you hit the Tenderloin and all of its colorful inhabitants. At one point I felt unsafe walking down Taylor toward Market. Of course, conditions change on a moment to moment basis in any city, but, in general, you’d be wise to avoid the area. For the money, at the time of my booking, I should have stayed up the hill at the Mark Hopkins, another IHG property, for the same price. If you are looking for the Old World Charm, check out that hotel. IMHO, Holiday Inn Express at Union Square would be a safer option. It’s not a classic building, but it literally is on Union Square and you can get a suite with a real bedroom for about the same price.

I stayed at the Hotel Spero for a couple of days while attending a conference at the Moscone Center, and it was great! The staff were super friendly, and the service was great the whole time. My room was clean and comfortable, and housekeeping always did an awesome job. The walk to the Moscone Center wasn’t bad and overall pretty safe. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby, and Union Square is just a short walk away. Overall, it was a great stay, and I’d definitely come back next time I’m in town.

I only stayed for 1 night & it's about $180 The hotel felt safe despite outside environment at night. The lobby is stunning & offers water. The room is a decent size for 1 person. The TV isnt great but love the lighting in the restroom & mirrors in the room.

Location: I didn't realize this hotel was in the Tenderloin prior to reserving. This is the only reason for the four out of five star review. The streets seemed okay during the day, but I didn't feel that safe at night. Parking: There is a self parking garage one block down at 325 Mason St, San Francisco, CA 94102. It's a good, clean, parking garage that charges $38 for 9 to 24 hours. I would not park your car on the street in this neighborhood. Hotel Staff: The hotel staff were all super polite and efficient. They were great. Room: Small, nice, clean, good view. Worth the price. Coffee: Free, decent cup of coffee, but they only serve from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the entryway. No coffee in the rooms.

We are a touring band from LA traveling up to Oakland, and had a fantastic stay at Hotel Spero in San Francisco. The location was perfect for us, making it an easy trip next day to the venue. The lobby had a very welcoming vibe, and the front desk staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. They even had a complimentary coffee stand in the morning, which was very needed for us to get a good jumpstart to our long day. Our rooms were super clean and comfortable, with great beds (as well as a pull out!) and spotless bathrooms. We also enjoyed the easy access to Jasper's, the restaurant connected to the hotel. Stellar hotel with upscale rooms and excellent customer service at a very reasonable price. I never mind paying less to stay in the Tenderloin. The main downside of my trip was the fact that union protests were happening all over the neighborhood, so I hardly slept. But the lobby was nice, and Wi-Fi connection was strong. Hotel Spero is near lots of great eateries and bars. Would definitely stay here again!

I had an amazing stay for my wedding. The staff prompt and courteous with all requests. Rooms were nice and clean. Would definitely stay again.

101 years of history in this Hotel.....I wonder what the walls would say if they could talk. The room is small, yet cozy and comfortable with warm lighting, a gigantic television, and a comfortable bed. The lobby is quite opulent and the staff is very friendly and welcoming. The location is decent as long as you don't turn the wrong way out the front door. I also enjoyed Jaspers. I just had a grab & go breakfast from the buffet as part of an event I had attended and it was top-notch. The potatoes and sausage hit the spot. There is also complimentary coffee in the lobby in the mornings. I would love to return here when I visit the city again.

This is such a beautiful hotel from the moment you walk into the spacious lobby, with lounge style seating and tables for your comfort, and lovely decor and artwork all around. Service at the front desk was excellent this past weekend, super friendly, provided helpful information, and it really felt like they were going the extra mile to ensure a pleasant experience. The room was clean and modern, with cool patterns on the floor, noteworthy plant decor, comfy bedding, outlets at the bedstands, working temperature control, a fridge, large flat screen TV, updated bathroom with great water pressure in the shower, and all necessary amenities one might need. The hotel is attached to Jasper's Corner Tap and Kitchen,  so it's easy to grab some food or drinks on site, including happy hour deals Monday through Friday 3-6pm. There's also Ace Parking right nextdoor, a bit pricey, but convenient (with in and out privileges).

THIS PLACE IS 101 YEARS OLD AND STUNNING. Our suite was amazing and honestly wish we could've stayed longer, already looking into another trip to stay here. I was living my best life in the living room watching the city with all the windows open. That bay breeze is a dose of serotonin. The location was ideal for us with the hotel being in the center of everything we wanted to explore. Jon was very informative with places to go and areas to avoid because the reality is there's issues in the Tenderloin, but homelessness will be experienced in every major city. We had zero encounters or issues with anyone passing by granted we ONLY passed through the area on foot during daylight hours. We're from LA so we know to walk with a purpose, watch your step, don't stare/make eye contact. Just stay aware & out of certain blocks at night. The trolly is very close by and easy to take around the city and Lyft was usually below $15 to get back. Jasper's is a great spot for a beer & food after a long day. If they're closed, hit the Irish pub a block away. Addressing previous bad reviews, our bathroom was sufficiently sized, not small at all. The toilet IS awkwardly close to the wall, but not a big deal. We also had a mini fridge that worked great, but again, we were in a suite & unsure how smaller rooms are equipped. If you want to stay in piece of history, book here. Modern, newly built hotels are vastly overrated.

Renovated in 2018, Hotel Spero maintains a historic feel while offering an exceptional bargain considering its location just 2 blocks from Union Square. Featuring comfortable beds, complimentary coffee, strong wifi and a 24/7 fitness center for less than $200 a night after taxes you won't find much better bang for the buck in the Bay Area.

I'll start with the pros- easy to get to, parking nearby (at $50 per night). Cons- the beds and pillows are extremely firm and difficult to get comfortable on, the air conditioning in the room doesn't work- leaving it 80 plus degrees in the room unless you open the window. The shower only has one setting to blast the water at you. When we arrived there was sticky substance on our night stand as if it hadn't been wiped. All together slightly disappointed for what I spent per night.

I absoutely LOVE this hotel! It's charming, the rooms are nice and have personality and the staff is incredibly friendly. I normally stay at the SF Intercontinental, but with more and more conventions coming back to SF, the prices and availability at the Intercontinental are getting ridiculous. If you've traveled to SF before, you should be aware some areas "the Tenderloin" can be a little rough and while The Hotel Spero is located on Taylor, just walking a couple blocks in the other direction, toward Union Square, you'll be fine. I definitely plan on staying here more often as the options for IHG are somewhat limited for me in the Union Square area. Parking is available nearby, as close as two doors down. Make a reservation with SpotHero and you'll also be able to find nearby parking everywhere. My three night stay was cheaper than one night valet parking at the Intercontinental. Being a Diamond Elite, I was able to upgrade to a one bedroom suite and it was great having all the extra room and it felt like having an apartment in SF. Even better than the corner junior suites at the Intercontinental. I'm really glad to have found this hidden gem and plan on staying here each time I visit SF, which is frequently.

Our room was amazing. We stayed in the superior Suit. Room is amazing. We went and watched Wicked at the Orpheum. We walked both ways. Did not feel we were in any danger of the homeless. We saw the 7:30 pm showing so we were walking back late. Only negative I can say is the banging and siren noises from the Hilton picketers is very annoying. Especially when your rooms face that side. From 7am to 10pm.

Awful hotel and staff. I originally booked for 5 nights but knew on the first night that I would not be staying past that night. Firstly the neighborhood is terrifying, second the only parking was $50 a night valet in a garage that reeked of urine, third upon reaching my room I immediately realized the AC was not working properly the room was scorching and humid amd would not cool down, the bathroom is tiny and the plumbing is loud obviously all they did to this place was buy chic furniture and paint. They are also THEIVES! I checked out the very next day and they will not refund the following 4 nights despite saying they would on my second call. A month, a credit card dispute, and four calls later to the same female at the front desk who suddenly has to speak to her manager, after telling me on my second call that my funds would be back on my card in a couple of days, and was supposed to get back to me by 7 tonight (of course that did not happen) and still no refund. STAY AT YOUR OWN RISK! Negative stars if I could.

Super helpful staff at front desk. They made an error which took us about 45min longer to check in, but comped us a nicer room -- nice when someone own's their mistakes, much appreciated that. Stay for a week was nice, would def recommend/be back. Nice bed, nice bath, nice room generally, I thought it was quiet. The staff was generally very helpful.

Small boutique hotel. Good price. Nice room. Clean. Not enough staff. I needed help and a cart to bring my bags to my room but no one was available and they couldn't find their carts. I am handicapped and this was a problem. Luckily the security guard showed up and help me. Also when we called for towels we had to call several times over the coarse of an hour before someone picked up. Other than that our night was great, we enjoyed the room.

I booked this knowing it was bordering tenderloin, but I booked it anyway. I was going to a concert at The Great American Music Hall. It was a 10 minute walk away straight down O'Farrell. The hotel itself is lovely upon entering. Rooms are recently refurbished and although it was small, it was on the 17th floor with a great view. Bed was comfy and I never heard any noise from any other rooms. But plenty of noise coming from the outside, I prefer to keep window open if possible for the breeze. Good thing I'm a heavy sleeper.staff were very nice and made check in very easy. I was given a $10 voucher for Jasper the attached restaurant but didn't use it. I tried to use for breakfast but they were swamped and just gave up. So very many small restaurants and diners nearby. You won't go hungry. The hotel is just a few blocks from Union square, Bart and market street. There was a small fridge in the room so I picked up some snacks and drinks from Trader Joe's so I could relax and enjoy the view. I would definitely stay here again when I'm next in SF!

I stayed in this hotel twice now. I will keep on coming back. It is strategically located in places you wanna go to. It's three blocks away from Union square. And Yes its close to the not so nice area of SF downtown but they make you feel safe with their good staff and security. Its clean and has free water and coffee. At the same time, Jasper, the restaurant on the lower level provides good food at a very decent price.The staff is highly commendable for their professionalism and friendly attitude. I love this hotel

Great stay. Close to the Loins but we felt safe. Cool decor, nice staff. Comfy stay. Check out at noon, I loved that part. The restaurant attached was not good and parking was $50, that sucked but I was aware of this as it was stated on the reservation

I went into this hell hole thinking it was a great little hotel. At the time I was very sick and needed a place to sit down for a moment. I sat down on a couch in the lobby and put my backpack and phone down in front of me. Then about five minutes later I passed out and didn't wake up for almost five hours. When I did wake up my phone was gone. That is when security approached me, for the first time since I walked in, never did they try and wake me up, never did they check to see if I needed medical attention, no they only approached me after I woke up and asked me if I was a guest at the hotel. When I said no I wasn't before saying another word the security guard calls the police telling them that he had someone in the lobby refusing to leave. When I asked about my phone that's when I heard him 911 dispatch that I was becoming violent. Feeling light headed I sat back down and told security to call an ambulance for me. He failed to do so. I asked the front desk to call an ambulance, nothing, I asked a third person to call an ambulance for me and still got no response from anyone. I had to finally walk myself across the street to the Hilton and use their phone to call an ambulance for myself. Which I was then taken to the hospital where I spent the next three days for a bed infection in my arm. When I returned to the hotel to inquire about my phone I was met with nothing but hostility from security and the woman at the front desk. That's where I am writing this review from, the lobby. This place is a joke. Spend your money elsewhere.

Nice hotel that has a boutique feel with all the amenities. I gave it 4 stars because it's near the tenderloin district. If you are not from SF, the tenderloin district is populated with homeless encampments. I didn't walk around my hotel area because it didn't feel like the safest part of SF.

Hotel Spero was a phenomenal experience! The room was clean, staff was kind, and is in a great location! Daimler at the front desk in particular went above and beyond! We arrived early and he accommodated us the kindness and professionalism. He was incredibly personable and couldn't have made our first impression of hotel spero any better. He made us feel not only like welcomed guests, but as a friend as well.Not sure if Daimler is a manager but he definitely deserves to be compensated like one in my opinion. #plur

Nothing but attitude from the front desk I arrived after flying in from the international flight and was told that there was no reservation under my name after booking weeks prior. There was no compassion, just a shrug of the shoulders and rude tone of voice from the staff. Ended up getting any room elsewhere because I didn't want to give a company lacking professionalism any of my business

We spent two nights here and overall our experience was pleasant. Check in: lobby is bright and sunny. The decor is very modern. The clerk who checked us in was very unenthusiastic about her job. I had to ask questions to get any information from her other than here's your room key. She clearly didn't want to be there. But we got what we needed and went up to our room. There were 2 elevators and they didn't take ages to come up and down so we appreciated that. The room: as expected from reading reviews before booking, its pretty compact. Although the building is older, the rooms were remodeled and very clean! The tv is big and the bed had comfortable linens. The decor was lovely and I loved the mirrors. They provided robes and plenty of towels so that was a plus. The showerhead was large and had nice pressure and water temperature. No bathtub. The main complaint about the bathroom was the space to sit on the toilet (see picture) and there isn't really room to put your things to get ready. If someone was larger than "average" I imagine it was be a bad fit. The "view" that was advertised was just a view of the buildings in the neighborhood. Nothing special. Noise level was low. I don't think there was anyone staying around us at our end of the hallway so we slept very soundly without any complaints. Location: located in Tenderloin near Union Square. It wasn't "nice" but not the worst either. It was very easy to walk to places or take an uber. If people are complaining about homeless people, well they are every where in San Fran or any bug city for that matter, so that's unavoidable. For the price in SF it was not bad but I dont think we would stay for a longer stay than we did since it was a small room and bathroom.

I actually really love this hotel. The staff have always been friendly and helpful, and this time was no exception. I cannot remember the name of the kind person who took my reservation and answered a million of my questions, but I remember Daimler and Jon, who held our luggage and gave us a scent stick for our room, which was really lovely. I love the decor of this hotel and the boutique feel and especially the crisp white sheets! It is near everything. We walked to Union Square, Chinatown, and even to the Stinking Rose in North Beach (that one was a bit far). Some of the furnishings are starting to show wear, or this would have been a 5 star review, but that's understandable with a busy hotel. 5 stars for the staff, location, and value for sure, but only 4 due to wear and tear. Nobody is perfect, but this place is charmingly close!

We stayed here for two nights and had no complaints. We unfortunately got a tour of the Tenderloin while driving from the airport to the hotel, and sadly saw the "fentanyl fold" times 1,000,000. That being said, we didn't book this place for the location. Parking lot was literally next door, at a rate of $50 per night. (Don't take it personally when the lot attendant, aka Mr. Personality, is rude- seems it is just his shimmering personality, as evidenced by other reviews.) But back to the hotel: our room was easily the cleanest we have ever stayed at. Our housekeeper Socorro clearly took pride in her work, and for this reason alone, we would return. The food downstairs at Jaspers is excellent!! There was fast wifi; a fridge; a safe; a water station, and complimentary coffee in the morning. Maybe the only thing we noticed could have been fixed was the toilet paper holder that was dangling out of the wall- needs a new anchor. However, since we only came here to relax at night and crash, the hotel more than served its purpose. We would definitely stay again!

I am very happy with my recent stay here. Check in was easy and the location is on the edge of Tenderloin, adjacent to Hilton. The lobby is welcoming and they offer free coffee and tea as well until 10am. The room is decently sized and nicely decorated. The bed was comfortable to sleep in. I really like that this hotel has a place where you can put your unwanted clothes on a side tray/table and it will go to charity. Big kudos for helping the community out. There were no issues whatsoever during my stay and I'd love to stay here again.

stayed here for 3 nights and was overall a pleasant experience. hotel lobby was clean and cozy. not super glamorous amenities overall in the room but atleast the room had a modern feel. room carpets probably need to be cleaned. mini fridge went out the first couple hours of arrival after placing two water bottles in it but whatever I didn't complain ice machine was helpful instead. staff was nice. surrounding area wasn't bad! might stay here again if I came back to SF.

I stayed in Hotel Spero this week for business. When I booked last minute, it was a great deal for this boutique hotel a couple blocks from union square. Upon arrival, I was upgraded and told about the restaurant available downstairs, the 24 hour gym, and free coffee and tea in the morning. My room was beautifully decorated and the bathroom was huge! I was surprised by the shower with two shower head options and doubly vanity with nice products. It was a comfy night and they even give you a Swell style water bottle to use with their filtered water machine. The lobby was perfect for pictures as it was decked out for Christmas season. Keep in mind you're staying in San Francisco, it's a beautiful city with its own level of grunge that Hotel Spero can't be faulted for. The streets were busy and I felt safe but would recommend you stay aware of your surroundings anytime you travel. Westfield mall, Union Square, and lots of restaurants and shops are walkable. Prime location, great customer service, and stylish decor means I would definitely stay again and spring for a higher floor with a view.

Really nice hotel. It is loud in the mornings with sirens and such but rooms come with earplugs. We did keep our window cracked so may not be a truly fair assessment. Staff were very nice. Jasper's restaurant is connected and has super slow service but convenient for a bite, drink and/or breakfast.

Great hotel! Very cute, well appointed, super clean, comfortable place to stay. We were there for three nights in July and I was impressed by the property. It's got the charm that hotel chains lack and a great staff. Couple of tips: park in the garage down the street, ask for a room on a high floor, ice is located every few floors so ask when you check in where it is, coffee in the lobby each morning is delicious so take advantage of it, Jaspers for cocktails and snacks is a great choice. Front desk staff are all super friendly and have great suggestions on what to do while visiting and how to do it.....Will stay here again when back in town!!

The lobby is very charming, but the black-painted hallways, doors, and animal pictures on the room doors made it a little scary coming to ur room at night. However, the room itself was cozy , upscale , clean with lovely decor. I recommend requesting a room on a higher floor.

Cute hotel. Nice rooms. Restrooms are a bit small. But I enjoyed our stay here. Free wifi. No room service but they give you a voucher for 30 bucks off the jaspers' restaurant down stairs (outside the hotel) I would definitely stay here again. We parked across the street at the big parking structure.

Probably one of the nicest hotel ive been to. Front desk ppl are very polite. they even took my luggages after i check out bec we went out eat. I highly recommend this hotel...parking garage right next door is awesome

Dejavu moment upon entering this hotel. Turns out it use to be called Serenity hotel which I have stayed at before. Great corner rooms with views of the city. 3rd floor is a bit close to city traffic but what would you expect. Friendly staff, comfortable beds and nice updated decor. No minibars in rooms. The downside is a whopping $38 fee they try and charge you for amenities??? They don't tell you this upfront.

Location is in the Tenderloin so it isn't the best but it is nice to stay at a hotel close to the events, clubs, or bars in the area. No parking at the hotel so you have to park at a separate parking lot. The lobby area is large. Restaurant bar by the lobby. Staff were nice at check in. Rooms appear to be an old building trying to be modern. There was someone else's sock left in our room when we checked in. The toilet paper holder is strangely low in the bathroom for some reason.

The hotel was easy to find. The lobby was welcoming and the staff were friendly. The room was small, but nicely upgraded. The only downside was the size of the bathroom, but the bathroom amenities smelled good and there were plenty of towels. The room was clean and the plant decorations were cute. They had complimentary coffee and tea on the lobby in the morning. We ordered breakfast from Jaspers, the restaurant/bar connected to the hotel. We ordered the American breakfast and avocado toast. The sourdough was delicious! There's a small garage next to the hotel that was full when we arrived. There's another Harrah's one block further and was a lot bigger and not too far of a walk. We would stay here again.

The hotel is somewhat renovated, the location is close by Union Square but also close to a very highly populated homeless community, which can be scary for small children. The rooms are extremely small. The bathroom does not have any counter space whatsoever. If you're a woman, good luck getting ready. 3 stars for the "resort fee" which is about $30 per day. The resort fee is for WiFi, mediocre coffee with non flavored creamers, and gym that honestly no one ever uses. If you are driving a car, good luck with parking. It's $58 a night even if you are staying at the hotel. Ridiculous.

Cute little boutique hotel just a few blocks away from Union Square. When I walked into the lobby, it was already decorated with Christmas decorations. I booked it through Hotwire where it doesn't tell you what hotel is selected until you pay. At first I was like I never heard of this place but once I walked in, it totally caught my eye. It was so cozy and welcoming. Andre checked us in and was very friendly and helpful. They have a bar/restaurant located downstairs in the Lower Lobby. Great place for bar food and drinks. The room was super cute. It had succulent plants in the room and it had a small refrigerator which was a plus. We didn't have our dogs with us but it was good to know that they are pet friendly. They don't have onsite parking since it is Union Square but there are parking garages nearby(Ace next door and O Farrell just around the corner). Just a few minutes walking distance away from Union Square which is convenient if you wanted to go shopping. Such a cute place to stay at. People may judge because of the location because of you turn on way and walk a few blocks you'll hit the TL but if you walk towards your left it's more touristy for the shops/ restaurants, but despite all that the ambiance and vibes in the hotel was great.

From its charming lobby, quaint staircase, and chic comfy rooms, Hotel Spero has a lot of character to offer. It's a pleasant balance of vintage and modern. While it is off a seemingly semi-sketchy street in iconic downtown SF, the doors are kept locked in the later evenings with only guests allowed in. Otherwise, during the daytime the automatic double doors open to a well-accented lobby with several seating options, filtered water dispenser, and an area where complimentary coffee and tea are served each morning. The staff deserves special mention, especially Johan, for their excellent customer service. Johan was most helpful and accommodating throughout our short stay. We had a corner queen with amazing city views. Our door opened to a mini foyer; modest in size, the room was well-lit, a surprisingly comfortable bed and pillows, stylish decor, and a hidden refrigerator inside one of the side tables! The cute bathroom was stocked with toiletries, plenty of towels, and great water pressure. Overall, this boutique hotel is a gem. We absolutely recommend it!

A beautiful modern boutique hotel. Short walk to restaurants, quaint shops, etc. My room was very neat and tiny. Linens were a crisp white. Bathroom was sparkling but lacked a bathtub and was very small but not a problem for a short stay. Hallways and lobby was immaculate and well designed. I highly recommend this little gem!

A great Hotel Experience. I just came in and out for one night but I give the entire experience was 5 Stars. The lobby was nice and the rooms were well designed. I appreciated the finishes in the bathrooms too. Very friendly staff. Kathryn at check in and Rex at check out were genuinely happy, friendly and caring. And the morning coffee was set early and I was able to have a cup to go for my ride to the Airport. I will definitely come back soon. Thank you for getting it right.

Hotel Spero is a really charming boutique hotel, built in the 1920s but well maintained and updated. I appreciated the open stairwell and the general aesthetic. The rooms on my floor had cool swan paintings on the doors, for example. The lobby also has nice, quiet seating areas in the windows or amongst bookshelves. All the staff I interacted with were polite and helpful. My queen room was pretty small, but comfortable for one person. Everything was very clean and felt safe. It was reasonably quiet from my room on the 15th floor. Wifi worked well throughout the common areas and the room. The shower was clean, reached comfortable temperatures, and had decent water pressure with two options for stream concentration. The toiletries were fairly nice, but bring your own hair conditioner--the "conditioning shampoo" was not very moisturizing. The bed and pillows were comfortable. I would have liked a warmer duvet, but there was an extra blanket in the corner which was fine. Overall, I'd recommend this hotel over others in the area for the charm.

Updating that from Our items were robbed out of our hotel room and this hotel won't even reimburse us for the stolen items. It's sad. Management is horrible and really not of any help.

this hotel is my new go-to in the city. the service is exemplary- johan at the front desk went above and beyond for us and that's something we don't see a whole lot of nowadays. the rooms here are excellent for SF, better than anywhere else that I can recall in town. hell, better than most towns I've traveled through. parking is handled by a garage next door; separate entity I believe and it's a tad pricey at $50 a day but it is valet with full in-out privileges. looking forward to coming back in a couple months.

I enjoyed my stay here, it's a small boutique hotel with small but adorable rooms. In the heart of union square. This was perfect for my work trip.

I got a really terrific rate, so I was willing to take a chance on Hotel Spero. I was already familiar with the neighborhood, so I knew parking would be interesting. The $58 a night spent on valet parking was worth it, especially since they offer in and out privileges. I don't think I leaving The car on the street overnight would be a good idea. The room is very tidy and spacious enough. Too bad The bathroom is tiny. I had to sit sideways on the toilet just to be comfortable! There is also no counter space. The beds are just ok. The upside is, the finishes, including a hand-painted Swan on almost every door, give the rooms some character. The lobby is nicely done and the furniture is actually comfortable! Better still, the hotel connects to Jasper's next door and you can get food delivered to your room. Not the worst way to spend a few days in the city.

My sister and I went on a road trip through the coast. We had already spent far too much time in the car (between sleeping and driving) with my dog might I add! Our host, I can't remember his name now was SO helpful. They had a coffee bar in the morning and a hot chocolate bar during the evening! This is a beautiful pet friendly hotel in union square. Perfect for businessmen or just people traveling through.

This place is an abomination. The most unprofessionally ran place I think I've probably ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Their HR is a complete and TOTAL mess, it doesn't get to be any more of a hot mess than this girl. In the area there are so many better places that you could choose to stay and dine that there is absolutely no reason to pick this one...unless of course you crave the aggravation and unpleasantness of unprofessionalism...if that's the case then you've found your place. PS, if you are unfortunate enough to stay here, don't leave anything of value in your room if you leave for a few hours.
