Hôtel Splendid

Great location, very short walking distance to many shops and restaurants. Beautiful views of Lake Geneva. Very friendly staff who even provided free breakfast to go! Only negative of the room was the shower is very small. But it’s a very minor issue. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to others

This hotel is a jewel. Old world charm with a fantastic view of the lake. Not fancy but clean and comfortable. |The hotel manager, super friendly, helped us when we arrived early. We dropped our bags and he helped us decide which boat excursion to go on and how to tour Chillion Castle and get back to town. |We absolutely loved the view of Lake Geneva, both at night and in the morning. |Breakfast was good, lot of items to choose and the hotel manager made us scrambled eggs.|Loved our one-night stay at this hotel and wish we could have stayed longer.

Sometimes you want something more personal than just another hotel anonymously booked via some aggregation website. Hotel Splendid was that for me. A relaxed yet efficient approach was evident from the moment I exchanged emails with the management. The hotel itself mixes old-fashioned charm with modern convenience. And the location is perfect for exploring beautiful Montreux. Finally two thumbs up for the continental breakfast served at Hotel Splendid.

I judge hotels not only on the comfort of the room, how good the breakfast is, location etc but also on the interactions with the staff. That's really what helps to create memories. ||And here, from the second you arrive at Reception, David & Gregory truly make you feel welcome (as if you've already been acquainted with them for a very long time) so I must commend them highly. ||Room was very comfortable with a private balcony and magnificent views of Lake Geneva. I left the balcony door open all night so had a nice breeze in the room. Breakfast was great and location perfect (fFYI there are elevators from the Railway Station street). The guys kindly chilled my Ticino wine and also stored my luggage on checkout. ||The main reason for the hotel name is because it is genuinely SPLENDID! ||Merci beaucoup and Au Revoir !!

We had an excellent stay at Hotel Splendid. The setting is gorgeous with a view of Lake Geneva and the breakfast was substantial. While the hotel is older, it has character and is very comfortable. The manager, David, was very friendly and even helped us out by receiving a package for us and having it ready on check in!

Fantastic Hotel with magnificent views . Every room has a balcony but ask to have one facing the sea.|Easy bus ride on #4 into Old Town. However the stairs to get to the bus are a little challenging there's about 50 of them.|Getting in and out of the beach was a bit difficult but they do have a ladder with super skinny rungs.. and the beach is wonderful as is the bar overlooking the sea.|We were told we were staying in a three-star hotel but this was by far at least a four-star.|Like every other European Hotel they do not have washcloths bring your own. Hairdryer barely got hot.

Our family of 3 decided on a 3-star hotel for 2 nights in Montreux to lower our overall travelling cost in Switzerland and this hotel turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Building has 100-year-old architecture, hallway shows sign of age, even the antique standing clock... all are interesting to look at and to feel nostalgic for those good old days in my hometown Dalat, Vietnam, a French colonial town with remnants of similar old architecture. Best of all, we were greeted and checked in by a warm and cheerful Mr David, a Swiss with Italian root in his 50s as he said, with so many life stories to tell and so much ease for us to make connection with. He surprisingly turned out to also be our chef for some excellent omelette during breakfast the next mornings and to my 5-year-old, he is a funny witty man. This is a bonus experience of the people to our trip beside what we came here for, the Alps, the vineyards... Direct as the Swiss might be but also helpful, authentic, unpretentious and heartwarming. We booked a 3 bedded room on the other side of the building, not facing the promenade, and it was all quiet, no difficulty sleeping at all.

I was unsure of what to expect in Montreux. I had initially booked this hotel via booking.com. However, when I contacted the hotel directly to confirm the booking, they offered to match the price, so I booked directly. It was CHF 150 for one night in a |double lake front room with breakfast included. ||For breakfast, freshly made scrambled eggs were on offer, which were delicious, as well as cereals, yogurts, fruits, juices and a selection of breads as well as coffee and tea. David's welcome was really lovely. He knew my name the next day and was very friendly and helpful. ||The room itself was huge! I took a lake view double room with a balcony. It was fabulous to be able to watch the sunset over the lake that evening. The room itself is a little old-fashioned/dated, but the space and view make up for it, as well as the comfort of the bed and the fact that everything is spotlessly clean. There is also a TV with a few English-speaking channels if that helps to wind down (I usually avail). ||Montreux itself seemed a bit up in the air with construction - it looked like the place was getting ready for or cleaning up after a festival. Lots of construction going on, so that wasn't great. but the lake trip is well worth it. ||Overall, I'd definitely recommend the hotel.

Location is good, owner is helpful and courteous. Condition of the facility was very poor.

This was one of the best hotel experiences we had in Switzerland for not only the location of the hotel but the warm hospitality of the brothers who own and run it. We would stay here again. Location - perfect in Montreux. Literally facing the lake just across the street, with the bus stop right in front, and convenient to many nice parts of the town including the promenade, restaurants & train station. Hotel - a historic place indeed. Rooms - Our room faced the lake & had a small balcony. It was clean, furnished with what we needed, and comfortable. Bathrooms were modern & fully functional. No issues with it being too hot or too cold. Dining - Breakfast was included daily, & the food variety, quality & service was good. Service- This was the highlight. The hotel staff & the owners were extremely helpful & friendly. They gave us great tips on dining, sightseeing & general conversation.

My husband and I stayed here one night, on May 27th, 2019...I will start by saying that I am not a picky person....as long as where I am staying is clean and safe, I am good... Three positive things... 1) proximity to the train station was great, virtually just feet away.....2) the manager, David, just could not have been nicer or more helpful...he held our luggage for us, as our room was not ready when we arrived...he gave us lots of good information about the area and ideas of what we should see....3) the view was spectacular as we had a room in the front, lakeside...couldn't have asked for a better view... The rest of the story is not good.... 1) the bathroom had tons of black mold in the tub/shower....my husband even went downstairs and asked one of the staff for some cleaning product and proceeded to scrub the tile in the shower....the bathroom was just not clean...just one of my pet peeves... 2) in lieu of regular beds, this room had hospital beds, complete with the hand held controller to raise and lower the head, foot and knee area...it was just very weird to find those in a hotel room...since we owned a medical supply company for 25 years, we are pretty familiar with the product..our thought was that they bought them cheaply and replaced standard beds with these, or got a deal somewhere....they are very inexpensive to purchase, so we figured that was the reason...and they are very uncomfortable... 3) this is the worst part of the story...I mistakenly moved the duvet and caught a glimpse of the actual duvet, which was covered with a white duvet cover...it was disgusting! ....filthy dirty, covered with a variety of stains, ranging from bright yellow to dark brown...UGH! 4) when we were leaving in the morning, the hallway smelled atrocious...an almost dead body smell...have no idea what it was, but was relieved that we were leaving... I think at one time, the Hotel Splendid was splendid, but it has fallen into disrepair and needs serious attention...hopefully this review will prompt the owners to look at their investment....the potential is there...LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION !

I have been staying in this hotel for some time now, and I do not regret my choice. The two brothers who own and run the hotel, alongside David, have been most kind to me. They are always there to help in any way the can. The hotel itself is located in what is, in my opinion, the heart of Montreux. Therefore, You can walk everywhere. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Mine had a breathtaking view of the lake with the Alps. And during Christmas time, you can see the whole "Marché de Noël" from above. I would recommend it to anyone who would like to feel at home during their holidays.
