Hotel Splendide Royal (Rome, Lazio) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Gilded stucco, damask fabrics and sumptuous antique furnishings combine to make this Baroque hotel perfect for those looking for a change from the ubiquitous minimalist style. This ambience of classic luxury continues in the guestrooms, which are decorated in shades of periwinkle blue, golden yellow and cardinal red; the most sought - after rooms on the top floors have views of the Villa Borghese gardens and the historic centre. The roof - garden restaurant is renowned both for its excellent cuisine and its panoramic views." - Tablet Hotels

It’s difficult to fully encapsulate our experience at this hotel in a few words, but I’ll try: From the moment you arrive here, you feel like the staff is very happy to see you and have you here. We booked this through Chase’s “the edit” program, which offers free breakfast and room upgrades, so YMMV on those, but overall the experience here is so good that it doesn’t really matter how you get here. You’ll love it. We were very early to the hotel because of an early flight (arrived around 11:00 for a 15:00 check-in), and they were apologetic for the room not being ready. We were obviously not expecting it to be, and just expected to drop our bags and return later. They were very helpful with suggestions for the surrounding areas, and took our phone number so they could call if the room was ready, or if they were able to get us into another room earlier. Well, at 13:00 they called saying the room was ready. We were just finishing lunch, so we walked back and…they had booked us into the top-floor suite with a balcony facing east. The room has a nice capsule-based illy espresso machine, so every morning we could make espresso and watch the sun come up. The room was impeccable and the service was outstanding. The hotel has a rooftop bar with maybe the best view of Rome you can get. Watching the sun set over the city while sipping a drink is a great experience. The drinks are expensive (all over €20), but each drink comes with an aperitivo snack, as well as 3 bite-sized treats (for us it was a canapé, an arancino, and a sushi roll). Each person gets the 3-treat plate. It’s outstanding. I could keep going, but the point is- this is what you hope for from a hotel of this level, and boy do they deliver. It’s a fantastic experience from the second you walk in to the moment you leave, and we will 100% stay here again next time we visit Rome.

We booked a prestige room, and a triple room for my husband’s birthday weekend for our family of 5. The hotel arranged a taxi to collect us from the airport, and that went smoothly. On arrival at hotel we were thrilled to have had both rooms unexpectedly upgraded - the rooms each had 2 bathrooms, a living room, and for the triple a 2nd bedroom. The rooms were the biggest we have ever seen, absolutely huge and so beautiful. All the staff were so welcoming with outstanding customers service. We ate breakfast in the hotel which had everything you could possibly want, and more. A really fabulous breakfast. A wonderful weekend stay, and we definitely will return to this hotel again.

We loved our time in Rome and the Splendide Royal. The front desk staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our room and bath were huge and beautifully appointed with incredibly comfy beds. (We wish they marketed the bedding!) Weather permitting - do not miss drinks on the rooftop. Sunset was spectacular.! You must make a reservation.

The hotel definitely deserves its high ranking and is well located in the city. We had a beautiful suite with bedroom, large bath, and sitting room that were above expectations! The staff was excellent and very helpful with directions, arranging transpotation, etc. with a smile and great attitude.|The location was good with within walking distance of major attractions. (~35 minutes to the Colliseum and 45 minutes to the Vatican).|The bar and restaurant require reservations but there are other very good restaurants within a 10 minute walk. The breakfast was excellent with a great variety including make your own mimosas, if you are so inclined.|We highly recommend the hotel!

The hotel’s common areas were lovely, but the rooms didn’t meet a 5-star standard. Our room was heavily fragranced on arrival, though the smell lessened after the first night. The shower took over five minutes to warm up, the toilet ran, and the AC wouldn’t go below 21°C, making the first night uncomfortably warm. We also noticed mold and pink stains in the shower grout. The bar was closed for two days during our stay. On the positive side, the staff were very nice, and the included breakfast was tasty with plenty of hot and cold options. Overall, 3 stars.

I had the pleasure of spending two unforgettable nights at Hotel Splendide Royal, and I can honestly say it was one of the most memorable hotel experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I felt as if I had been transported into a world of timeless elegance and intimacy. The room was beautifully designed—spacious, refined, and filled with small details that made it feel personal rather than just luxurious. Waking up to the soft light coming through the windows and the view of Rome’s greenery was something truly special. What really stood out, however, was the atmosphere of the hotel itself. It’s not just a place to stay—it feels like being welcomed into a historic Roman residence where every corner tells a story. The staff carried themselves with a perfect balance of professionalism and warmth, making me feel genuinely cared for during my entire stay. Breakfast on the terrace was an experience of its own: sitting above the rooftops of Rome, sipping coffee, and watching the city slowly come alive beneath the morning sun. It was magical in every sense of the word. Two nights here felt both too short and perfectly complete—a retreat full of beauty, calm, and a touch of romance. Hotel Splendide Royal didn’t just host me; it gave me memories I will carry with me for a very long time.

Smashing hotel. Really friendly and helpful staff. Excellent rooftop bar for sundowners looking out over Rome. Pricey but we were well looked after. Good location with decent eating options in and close to the hotel.

Yelp
Lovely hotel on the northern side near Borghese Gardens! Our room (152) is a very nice suite - all white and was immaculate, bright, airy, with two bathroom, jacuzzi tub, separate shower, huge closets, very comfortable bed, breakfast table and separate desk, espresso/coffee and tea bar, a wonderful place to stay!

Yelp
This is simply a fantastic hotel in Rome. We came for a conference and had a reduced conference rate but received a "junior suite." The junior suite is amazing. Our room had three sets of french doors onto a very large outdoor patio. The room itself had a separate sitting area and large bathroom with a marble shower and separate large tub. Although the furnishings were perhaps slightly dated, the room was very comfortable and we loved it. A small point maybe, but showers in most European hotels are horrible. This room had a large shower with rain type shower head and was lovely. On top of that, the service at the hotel is impeccable. We were escorted to our room. There was twice daily maid service including an evening turn down. Anytime we asked for anything--like extra pillows or a bucket of ice--it was delivered within 10 minutes. The hotel also has a laundry service for same day pressing of clothes. The hotel is also home to a Michelin-rated restaurant and a roof top bar with an amazing view of Rome. The bar is a great place to catch a sunset. My *only* complaint about this hotel is that it can be pricey. Even if you get a good deal on the room rate, the prices for laundry, mini-bar, and room service are pretty steep. I was a bit shocked to find an Aperol Spritz in the rooftop bar was 28 euros--and they are 6-8 euros in most restaurants. Without a doubt, this is a very special place. Highly recommended!

Yelp
We are definitely spoiled by all the other hotels we have stayed in Italy this trip. The concierge here is horrible. They suggested us a super tourist restaurant that contributed to the worst meal of our entire summer trip. With wine shop suggestions, also another super touristy spot, the wines are average 30-40% more than total wine in USA. Plus they overcharge us $200 as well. We had 2 cocktails at their gorgeous roof bar and we were charged for $300 euros. Btw, do not even attempt to try the sushi on the roofbar. We stayed at their largest suite and it doesn't even have a bathtub. Now I am truly wondering about their photos on the website. It is a super vintage and gorgeous hotel with history. The location and views for breakfast are gorgeous....but the concierge is definitely one of the worst. At other hotels, they actually suggested us restaurants base on all the employees favorites. This one is just the opposite. Definitely feel like being treated as a dumb tourist than a guest here.

Yelp
I am actually kind of surprised that this is a 5 star hotel. It seems more like a 4 star and it's not too great. The other 5 star hotels we have stayed in seem to go above and beyond in pretty much every way, especially when the rate is almost $500 a night. The Hotel Splendide Royal didn't really do anything for us. Here was our experience. My husband called in advance to let them know it was our honeymoon and asked if I could spend more and upgrade the room. Their response was that we were already in an amazing room and we should rest assured that it would be special. Well, our room on the first two nights was far from amazing. It was a second story unit that faced a wall complete with a family doing their laundry most of the night. It wasn't a good view or even really acceptable for a 5 star hotel. We kind of assumed there we no "bad" rooms in such an expensive hotel but we were wrong. On our last night, they moved us up to a room with a view but it was almost too little, too late. While that room was nice, we were pretty burnt out with this place at this time. They also gave us a dozen roses which were clearly recycled from something else, maybe the lobby? Overall, if you are looking for a high-end hotel, go elsewhere for sure. Also, wifi is horrendous! Don't expect to ever be able to make a call on it.

Yelp
We had drinks with friends at the hotel rooftop bar and it was, as the name says, splendid! And the staff was magnificent. Especially John Marco who made us feel so welcome! He danced with women at the tables, took photos for us and made everyone feel like they were his best long lost friends. Bravo!

Yelp
We flew into Rome before our cruise and stayed at the hotel Splendide Royal. The hotel is located on quiet street Via di Porta Pinciana, which is really close to the tourist attractions and Via Veneto. The hotel itself looks like an aristocratic private residence from the 17th century baroque period. Our room had sumptuous embroidered linen, gold detailing and beautiful marble bathroom. Their continental breakfast spread had something for everyone and had beautiful views of Rome and I could even spot the spire of St. Peter's in the distance. Service was attentive and friendly, and the Michelin star restaurant Mirabelle on the 7th floor boasts a beautiful sunset view on the terrace. The only negative about this hotel was that the shower drained really slow so if you're one of those people who like long showers, you'll be standing in a pool of water. I take quick showers so this didn't bother me too much but hopefully if you stay here you won't have the same problem as we did. As we didn't spend enough time in Rome I would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat! Highly recommended.

Yelp
The Hotel Splendide Royal in Rome is rated as a luxury five star hotel, with some justification. Located in the upper reaches of central Rome, it's a short walk to the smart shopping district around Via Condotti, as well as all the main sights of Rome. Situated in what was once the palatial headquarters of Rome's Maronite (Lebanese Christians) community it's a stroll away from the Via Veneto. On arrival we were checked in, in English, very swiftly and smoothly. We were shown to our room, a palatial twin room with en-suite, walk in wardrobe and all the facilities you'd expect . . . and more. We settled in and then hit the town. Rome is fabulous destination for short breaks, it has none of the pretentiousness of Milan or the chaos and 'attitude' of Naples; I guess the city and it's inhabitants have had a few years' practice at being comfortable with themselves! The next morning began with an outrageous breakfast on the top floor with views over Rome and the Vatican City. Outrageous because of the quality and variety of food on offer. With at least 10 waiting staff on hand too, one didn't have to struggle to get attention either. On returning later in the day, the room was perfectly turned out, the bathroom refreshed and a note left for us, 'Was there anything that we needed? Ironing, dry cleaning, shoes polished? We just had to ask.' The beds had been turned down and there was a bowl of fresh fruit on the table at the other end of the room, with bottles of water and glasses. We stayed for a total of five nights, with each night more comfortable than the last! The breakfasts just got better and the service friendlier and ever more generous with each passing day, and we weren't staying in the smartest suite either! We loved it.

Yelp
I will start with a tip: if you will be staying here on a weekend, you should try to get a room on the backside or bring earplugs. There is a nightclub in the Villa Borghese that stays open until 5 AM on weekends, with thumping music so loud even I couldn't sleep through it. It definitely detracted from what was otherwise a good hotel. The hotel is clean with spacious rooms, a great breakfast buffet with a view, has good service and is well located. If you stay here plan to take some time to walk in the Villa Borghese and visit the Borghese Gallery. We'd stay here again.

Yelp
Perfect! Had a wonderful experience staying at this lovely hotel. Perfectly situated between the Spanish Steps and Via Venato, the staff is both courteous, efficient and very accommodating. We have been to Rome several times and this is the first time at The Splendide, but it certainly won't be the last. The room was spacious, clean and very functional. We had a lovely terrace that overlooked the park. Highly recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Stayed here during my vacation/wedding getaway. I loved everything about this hotel. Make sure to buy the continental breakfast, it's phenomenal. The service is spectacular and the rooms a great a spacious. It's also located in a perfect spot to get around town. The only downfalls were that the bed sheets felt like sand paper and the shower drain didn't work well. Hence the 4 stars, these two things are important for me especially since it's a 5 star hotel.

Yelp
We loved staying here! We were surprised how large our room was (for a European hotel, we were expecting a bit smaller). When you walk in the hotel, you're blown away by the beauty! It felt very regal. We were on our honeymoon, and upon checking in, were treated to prosecco and fresh fruit. The concierge and doormen were incredibly polite and helpful. We loved it here and would definitely stay here again the next time we are in Rome.
