What a fantastic place! We required a room for 3 adults & were upgraded to the top floor suite with 3 bedrooms for free! The electronic check-in was easy & efficient. We found multiple codes for the WiFi for each of our devices & the WiFi was super fast. The room was spotlessly clean & beds super comfortable. Breakfast was a huge spread of fresh, local food & was marvellous. Albert will make a very good coffee as well! We could not be happier will our stay at Sporting Hotel & thoroughly recommend to anyone staying in St Gallen.

I don’t usually have the time to write reviews, but Hotel Sporting was really exceptional. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and with lots of natural light and fresh air through the two large windows. I was most impressed by how thoughtfully laid out and outfitted the room was – lots of hooks, shelves, towel bars, and places to set things, and plenty of room for two people to easily share the space without bumping into each other. The hotel clearly cares about having high-quality basic amenities – an excellent shower, good radiator heaters, comfortable beds – without wasting time on decorative frills such as throw pillows. The wifi connection was excellent and free. The breakfast buffet was a rich feast of various local meats, cheeses, eggs, an entire table of breads and croissants, local jams, fruit, and so on, all presented in a home-style fashion. The owner was warm and welcoming and seemed to really enjoy running the place. We found it quick and easy to take the bus into the downtown area, and there’s also a great local restaurant, bakery, and grocery store within a few minutes walk from the hotel. Would love to stay there again.

Best hotel breakfast! Our host was so friendly and accommodating! There isn't a better value for a family, or group of 4 to 7 people. it's a bit too far to walk to the old city, abbey etc. But about 200 meters to a bus that takes you straight there or to the train station. I definitely recommend if you are not looking for spa type luxury. Just comfort and a homey feel!

The double room was too compact with shower, toilet and wash basin in the room itself. A curtain or a wall to separate the bathroom area would have been good. Other than that the stay was comfortable and the hotel staff is also very good and helpful. The breakfast was amazing with a variety of fruits.

Well, if that is the "best hotel in town" (as per other reviews), I am puzzled as to standards set in this town. ||||The hotel is situated not far from the centre but vehicle is advised. Property has several rooms. No check-in desk per se and there may be nobody on-site. There is a lock box next to the entrance door. You enter a code provided to you via e-mail and a set of keys are released. After that, you open entrance door and your room. The room is on the smaller side (it is a budget hotel) with the sink and shower in the room. Expect no privacy while taking a shower. The toilet is separated but, again, it is not sound proof by any means. I suppose it is OK if you travel solo...other rooms may have different set up. ||||Wi-Fi is free but you need to register / receive SMS code first. Breakfast was very good: fresh coffee / assortment of yogurts / cold cuts / eggs / etc. ||||NOTE: The ownership of the hotel changes on 1 April 2016. The current proprietor sold the property to an investor from China.

Very convenient hotel for one-night stay on a business trip.||The room is well furbished and spacious. The TV set has major German and Italian broadcasts, plus some French and International.||Downsides are the relatively poor bathroom and the lack of a lift (especially for the elderly).||For me both were perfectly fine, and I can only but recommend it.||Tip: avoid the 23 euro breakfast. It's not worth the big money you pay for it.||Other than that, you can go ahead.

I picked this hotel because it is very close to my office and I had an early meeting. I had no expectations and just needed a place to sleep. Well, I was very surprised! First of all, I got a double room at the price of a single room. The room was very clean, the bed very comfortable with a very high quality mattress (not too soft, not too hard), and everything you need is provided (i. e. hairdryer, tissues, toiletries). I slept very well (and I am not a good sleeper). |In the morning I was greeted with my name by the owner himself although he had not met me before. Mr. Hörler seems to learn all his guests' names overnight ;-) - how nice! I then learned that he had given me a room on the top floor, away from other guests because there was a big group who left early in the morning and he wanted to make sure I was not woken up by them. So this is why I got the upgrade. And I had not even asked for a quiet room! I have asked so many times for quiet rooms and got rooms facing busy streets or next to elevators that I had just given up. And there you go, in a **hotel, I get one without even asking. |Breakfast is just great. Eggs, cheese, fruit, fresh bread, nutella AND ovaltine spread... to name just a few... ****- to *****-star breakfast indeed. |All in all, a great experience. I will definitely come back and am tempted to set up some early morning meetings myself soon ;-).
