What a cute old hotel. I made a reservation cause the town is quaint and I wanted to stay in an old, quaint hotel. I think that part of my desire was cause I was told the hotel was built sometime in the 1800s. Maybe the late 1800s??
Eric was at the front desk. Very friendly and helpful. The hotel does come with a free breakfast at the adjacent Bistro St. Michael, which I reviewed under separate review. The hotel is connected to numerous shops, which, unfortunately, close at 5:00 and don't open till 10:00 a.m. That includes a lot of the shops on Whiskey Row, which is where this place is located.
One can park on the street till 10 a.m., but if one doesn't want to have to worry about getting a ticket, there is a parking garage next door. And to load one's car, there is a loading dock right in front of the hotel. Everything is eazy peezy.
Checkout is 11 a.m. I had gone shopping -- another review on that later -- and I wanted to see if I could check out later than 11:00. No, was the curt response by the oh so not very friendly front desk clerk. I was told, since it was a weekend -- This was actually Friday morning -- that I had to be out by 11:00.
Actually, I didn't quite make the checkout by 11:00 and my door key locked me out. I had to go back to the front desk to get the key reactivated, which that desk clerk was quite apologetic and friendly.
The rooms are small and very basic, clean. I usually like to have coffee when I wake up. There is coffee service in the lobby at 6:00 a.m. And I' m sure they don't want people traipsing down there in one's PJs. And since I asked for a quiet room, I had an interior room, which look directly at another building (part of the hotel I think) and into someone else's room, which means I had to close the drapes if I wanted to do something I didn't want other people to see.
Would I stay there again? Dunno. I think I'm spoiled and like the comforts I'm used to, but it is rather quaint, just like the town.
