"Hotel St. Francis The Hotel St. Francis lays claim to being Santa Fe’s oldest hotel. Rebuilt in its current location in 1924, after a fire left its predecessor completely ravaged (save the brick chimney), the property formerly known as the De Vargas Hotel played host to elegant ladies and gentlemen in top hats, politicos, and other VIPs during its heyday. After World War II, the hotel lost some of its luster, though it was still popular with government types until the 1960s. In 1986, new owners restored the hotel to its previous grandeur, replaced the barber and beauty shops with a restaurant and bar, and gave the property its current name. Most recently, in 2008, the property was purchased by Heritage Hotels and Resorts and underwent yet another makeover. Inspired by St. Francis, the patron saint of Santa Fe and founder of the Franciscan order, the look is best described as haute-monastic. Think Frette linens and flat-screen televisions paired with neutral hues, wood furnishings crafted by local artisans, and dim, candlelit common spaces."

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful historic hotel! The building is full of artful details, blending classic charm with a minimal, clean design. Our room was cozy, comfortable, and thoughtfully appointed. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay special — even surprising us with goodies and balloons for my husband’s birthday! The on-site wine tasting room and bar were fantastic, offering a great place to relax after a day of exploring. Plus, the hotel’s central location made it easy to enjoy all that downtown has to offer. Highly recommend!

This is a very cute hotel. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Everything is very clean. The only issue we had was the noise. We didn’t sleep because of the constant street noise. The windows are so old (“historic”) that we could hear every conversation of the people waking down the street. And the car noise. Not to mention the 4am garbage pick up. I think if this hotel would modernize the windows it would be an amazing place to stay.

This is a MUST STAY Hotel….From its Beauty & Architecture to the kindest, most welcoming, and most helpful Staff, from the most relaxing Rooms to the breathtaking Views, Hotel St. Francis is honestly one of the BEST Hotels (if not the best) in which my Husband and I have stayed. ||I often suffer from anxiety when I travel, but HUGE, HUGE BLESSINGS—at Hotel St. Francis, I had the most PEACEFUL stay ever! And we are in walking distance to sooo many AMAZING places. ||I cannot recommend this Hotel enough….In fact, before we left, my Husband and I made reservations to return. |Till we meet again, Hotel St. Francis!||Thank you for such a beautiful vacation!

Google
Amazing location. I loved that the TV is tucked away in a piece of furniture. We never used it. Our group enjoyed the bar. Parking is valet only, which is excellent given the location where public parking is difficult. If you are looking for historic, authentic Sante Fe this is it. If you want a chain hotel with technology, this is not your place. I would recommend this place for a weekend trip into the area.

Google
Charming hotel located within a short walk of the downtown plaza. Our room had lovely view of the mountains but could be a bit noisy with the window open. Easy valet parking. Comfortable bedding and lovely shower. What makes this hotel special is the staff. Everyone is friendly and professional. We needed a light replaced and it was done immediately. We want to thank Stephen especially. He helped to make our stay a pleasure. Also, the restaurant downstairs, The Wolf and Roadrunner, is fantastic! A gem that should not be missed

This was our second trip to the Hotel St. Francis and the first one with our dog (~45lb labradoodle, 10 yrs old). The entire staff and Secreta bar was so welcoming to us and her! She loved it so much - especially the cold stone floors in the lobby, she didn’t want to leave! They brought her treats and water. In the true spirit of St. Francis, this is a great spot for you and your pup. Perfect stop in Santa Fe, we will for sure be back!

Google
There was an overpowering musty odor in our room. They did attempt to take care of it, but it only masked it for a while. We had to buy some some deodorizer of our own to keep spraying. They also attempted to overcharge us by $90 vs. our third party booking total. They did make that right

Google
The best staff makes the moment you walk in feel special. We were here on our first anniversary and returned for our 18th. We received a note welcoming us and a complimentary bottle of wine with the note. The room is so pristine clean it is welcoming. The St Francis is unique and a historical hotel that has been kept up and cared for, as it deserves.

Yelp
I think most of the bad reviews are from people who accidentally get one of the small rooms. You MUST specify that you want only the full size room. Hotel Saint Francis is one of my favorite places to stay in Santa Fe. It's peaceful, great bedding, friendly staff, and wonderful front porch. We love to take our dogs and the couches on the front porch are great to lounge IN, while enjoying their wonderful bar and people watching.

Yelp
Porch, entrance, main hall, fireplace, wine and liquor bars, restaurant are very nice, as are stairs to third floor. Main hall fireplace is great on cold nights. Forced valet parking can at times be slow but is included in stay price. Good room, comfortable beds. Some room furniture sacrifices quality for the southwestern vibe. We had a wooden bench in our room, ostensibly made using an ads, or given distress marks with one, that was too rickety to use. Sink outside the bathroom has too little towel storage and only 1 hand towel for up to 4 people. Towel storage in bathroom is in shower opposite end from shower head but this placement seems like some risk for wet towels during shower. Only one usable seat besides beds. Good fragrance soaps but seemed like a skimpy supply for a room that might hold four. TERRIBLE toilet paper. A small coffee shop in Flagstaff has 10x better toilet paper than this multi-hotel company. Clean interior. Bedroom curtains a bit tricky to get completely closed for full privacy. Don't look out windows going up or down stairs unless you want to be grossed out by pigeon poop everywhere. Parts of hotel are under construction reducing the appeal. All staff we encountered were great.

Karen R.

Yelp
The most attentive concierge we've ever encountered. What a pleasure to have stayed at the St Francis and we plan to come back. Much gratitude to all! Also, make sure to have a French Connection at the Secreto Bar.

Yelp
Hotel St. Francis is a wonderful place to stay in Santa Fe, NM. Very old, historic hotel, so keep that in mind. The lobby is fairly plain, but the very visible iron-handrail staircases are beautiful. The rooms are small, but what you would expect for a hotel it's age. Bedding, towels, toiletries all first class. Nice coffee and tea service available in the AMs in the lobby, and the coffee was hot, good and plentiful. The hotel has a nice bar and restaurant. My review of the restaurant is also posted. All the staff was super friendly, and responsive to all requests. One aspect of our stay at Hotel St. Francis that was new is the one-to-one text capability set up by the front desk before or arrival. It was a nice perk, being able to immediately get a response to any and all questions and requests. Very nice feature to have. We'd definitely stay here again! Recommend this hotel!

Yelp
This is an ideal hotel for this area. The lobby is lovely in the morning for a coffee/tea with a quiet, monastic feeling. The room was very comfortable with clean sheets in a new feeling room, with historic accents. This is much preferred over the other hotels in the area that really need renovation and over-charge for heavily worn rooms- which they can because they rely on the historic element. I prefer this place because you get the clean and new with the historic. I maybe just wish the bathrooms matched the bedroom a bit room as far as level of new. Hotel is ideally located by the plaza, all the shopping, and delicious food. If you're interested in Le Fonda for the history, just stay here and eat/bar/shop there. The rooms here are more affordable and very clean. They have included valet and a bar that doesn't seem to open on time. I wouldn't recommend the bar at high times because it's very Smokey and loud. Maybe go right when they open and it's quiet.

Yelp
I kind of feel bad because the staff is so kind, but the first impression was just too absurd. By the end of the trip, I just got used to everything. The moment we checked in, the front desk lady scolded her coworker in front of us which I'm surprised that the scene couldn't wait until the customers were gone. The room itself is much tinier than the pictures with barely any sink space. That part I don't mind. What I do mind are the following atrocities that I've never experienced in any other hotel: - sink had a variety of hairs that were sitting there before I could even use it. -complimentary water bottle was already opened and half drunken out of -after washing my hands, I used the hand towel in which when I pulled away, my entire hand was engulfed by a long strand of blonde hair like an octopus. (I have black hair while my fiancés hair is brown) -the light on my side of the bed did not work Now for the goodies: Housekeeping was MUCH better afterwards. Staff seemed more cheerful as well. The lobby was also very beautiful and welcoming. I also cannot believe how I perfect the location is because it's walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. Very happy tourists with that aspect. However, I think I'm going to try other hotels the next time I'm in the area. The quality of the room did not live up to the price we paid for.

Kara L.

Yelp
Come here for the history and location. Yes, my room was small but it was beautifully appointed. The service at this establishment is 5 star. They booked restaurants for me, which was exemplary. A daily newspaper is provided along either coffee and tea. The location is great. I had breakfast at Pascal's two steps away and went to the bookstore down the way. Everything in town is walking distance. Gruet Tasting Room offers excellent sparkling wine and the staff is fabulous. Secreto crafts such superb cocktails that when I migrated to another hotel for a conference, I came back. Simply amazing in a terrific environment. Come here for a local feel and a true memory of Santa Fe.

Yelp
I would not recommend this hotel when staying in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This hotel is considered an historic building. Therefore, no upgrades have been done to any of the rooms since the early 1900s. No exaggeration. Our room did not have a real bathroom. The sink for the bathroom was in the bedroom. The shower and toilet were in a separate room. The light over the sink was very dim. Forget putting on make up in this room! When I went down to inquire about a more modern room, they told me that all the rooms were like the one we were assigned. Thankfully, they transferred us over to another hotel. The Eldorado Hotel in Santa Fe is their sister hotel. This hotel is modern and beautiful. Definitely, stay at the El Dorado hotel for the same price. Stay away from the Hotel St. Francis.

Julia C.

Yelp
Very charming and that's about it. I am in a room with a portable AC that isn't worth crap and a fan that is so loud I can't sleep Really?!?!?! I don't even get this bad service at a Holiday Inn or motel 6. Then let's talk about the bathroom. The sink is in the bedroom and the bathtub and toilet in a separate room. Floors are totally squeaky. No desk at all. This is embarrassing for the price paid. Something needs to change. I stayed here for work. I'll never stay there again. Not even for vacation.

Yelp
This hotel soured us on the city of Santa Fe since the personel was so rude and unconcerned about our safety and needs. Who wants to visit a city with people like that? Desolate, uncomfortable hotel! Unsafe bathroom with step up, no grab bars, tiny rubber bathmat (we asked if any rooms had grab bars in the bathrooms and they said no); no functioning heat, no bell hop service, restaurant closed (although website shows on-site restaurant), $30 daily fee (undisclosed to guests) for lobby coffee service; high, high bed that required a stepstool for elderly and disabled guests; dismal lobby (no vending service for drinks or snacks), minimum staff; no help with luggage despite our advanced age. I slipped in the dangerous tub and flooded the bathroom and despite this and my reporting to security and requesting a discount from the $445 daily rate for my pain and discomfort, we were only promised a $60 discount total.

Yelp
Absolutely LOVED this place!!! I miss it. We had such a good time at sipping drinks at the friendly bar area. Our room was beautiful and comfortable while still experiencing the historicity of the place. Coffee and tea in the morning entryway were delightful. Can't wait to go again!

Yelp
Really enjoyed my stay here. All of the employees were incredibly kind and helpful. Hot coffee was provided every morning which tasted great. We did check in during Last Friday which was a nightmare due to all the traffic downtown and the valet process (which is the only parking option) took ~40 minutes to get into the hotel. Hotel definitely should've planned for this and had a second or third valet working to help. We didn't have any other problems with the valet process for the rest of the weekend though. Hotel was also very clean with good dining and drink options.

Yelp
I had a really nice time at this beautiful historic hotel. The staff was lovely. We had dinner at their restaurant and everything was amazing. My steak was a perfect medium rare, the truffle fries were heavenly and our waiter Russell was on top of every detail. (YAY for Russell). The room was cute. Definitely small like the other reviews mentioned. Everything was clean and yes, there was a step up to the bathroom, because it's a historic building (which is too beautiful to be condemned). The only real problem was the loud generator right outside the window. That went until late at night. In the morning there was another loud constant motor. That really wasn't very nice at all, especially when paying exorbitant prices. That noise is something I could tune out but I could see it driving most people crazy.

Yelp
I stayed at this hotel over Memorial Day Weekend in 2024. We had around $1,000 worth of items stolen from our hotel room because our hotel door did not latch securely 100% of the time. We spoke with hotel security who said there aren't cameras in the hallways. The on-site manager told me that the building was over 100 years old, implying 'well, what can you do'. But the key card locks on all room doors are certainly newer than 100 years old. The manager did move us to a new room and guess what - that door didn't latch securely either until maintenance replaced the lock. For the prices this hotel charges, I expect all hotel room doors to latch securely 100% of the time without guests having to call maintenance to replace the locks. I'm giving the hotel two stars only because they did offer a full refund of our stay. I will not be staying here again.

Yelp
I'm a hotel chain kind of guy. I like collecting my points and earning my status, but my preferred chain didn't exist in Santa Fe and my second choice was way over priced so I booked a room here not knowing at all what to expect. Everyone was so friendly and helpful from the front desk to the severs at the two restaurants to the valet guy who sometimes was also the front desk guy. Everyone wore many hats here I feel. I want to shout out the janitor who really should be employee of the month. Two times the janitor took on other duties as assigned when he could have just kept walking. First I was wanting coffee from the free lobby station, but it had run out. I was queuing at the front desk when the janitor walked by and asked if I needed something - he ended up going to get the coffee refilled for me. Secondly on my way out he was cleaning the floor but saw me waiting at the empty front desk where there was no staff. He asked what I needed and went and found the valet for me. Kudos to him! I hope someone from St Francis sees this review! Anyways, we check in and valet our car (included in price) with no issues. This is a three story hotel and we are on level two. I liked that a staircase serviced all levels of the hotel so you could skip the lift unless you had your bags with you. We got an end of the hall room which was very spacious. There were KCups in the room and water as well. Unlike in the hotels I stay where I have status, this hotel treated me better. They didn't even ask if I wanted housekeeping - I got it daily. And each day the water bottles were replaced for free. It is nice to not be nickel and dimed on these small things. The front of the hotel has a nice big porch which services their two restaurants. It's a great place for an afternoon drink or to sit with morning coffee. The hotel is in a great location and I would definitely stay here if I was in Santa Fe again. We left the hotel and returned a few times and valet was always quick with the car.

Marty R.

Yelp
Do not stay here. They do nothing to accommodate. Mistakenly booked wrong date and would not credit for future stay. Had booked for less than a week when caught mistake.

John P.

Yelp
The hotel is charming and great location. The staff is great at what they do (one woman was disrespectful at my leaving the reservation due to the following) To get barely lukewarm water for a shower was a crime! I had to let the water run so long it was horrible. It never got warm or hot. Don't stay there if you want a warm or hot shower

Yelp
I stayed a Wed-Sunday (5 days, 4 nights) in November 2022. Pros: -Great location (heart of Santa Fe), walkable to many places including the Rail Runner train -Pretty lobby, also has an outdoor sitting area -Restaurant AND bar AND wine bar in-house -Friendly staff -Free coffee, tea, cookies, yogurts for breakfast -Free parking lot -Not a chain! Issues: -Bathroom window thickly outlined in black mold -Valet parked a car in front of my car... then the owner insisted on getting their keys back, so I had to wait an hour for them to call, find, and get the keys so I could get out -Aforementioned parking lot is VERY small, first come first serve -Felt expensive for a small room with no A/C
google avatar

Yelp
We stayed here for 4 nights and absolutely loved it. If you're looking for a place with some interesting history and a cool aesthetic this is the place for you! We didn't want the traditional "southwest" looking hotel so we were excited to find this gem that is an integral part of Santa Fe history but really different from others in the area. The rooms aren't huge but they're nice. The bed is extremely comfortable and the shower has good water pressure and the room was clean. The service around the hotel was spectacular. They texted me before arrival and I was able to text whenever I needed anything! Employees brought an iron and mini-fridge flat at no additional cost and were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

Yelp
I wouldn't stay here ever again. Check in was at 3 -- we were tired and just wanted to nap before our dinner reservations so we arrive at 3:45 and our room still wasn't ready. No apology or anything just "feel free to sit on that couch". Upon entering our room we notice the smallness of it. Also the fact that the sink was outside the bathroom and 3 feet from the end of the bed. That's just weird and dangerous in my opinion. I can see a child banging its head or a drunk. The toilet had difficulty flushing, our shower backed up major sewer issues and most importantly in the winter.... our heater didn't work. At 3am we woke up freezing so searched every drawer for a blanket of course none to be found. I also got woken up by the traffic outside since it is located in downtown by the plaza and well with no heater working your room has zero background noise. Awful experience.

Yelp
First, this hotel has a very small parking lot. We ended up paying to park in the city lot across the street and we moved the car early the next morning to avoid paying more or getting a ticket. They did reimburse us but it was a hassle. No coffee pot in the room but they set out a coffee and tea station by the front desk in the morning. The rooms we got were small. One had a step up into the bathroom, but it had a tub. The room with just a shower was a little more renovated but the shower stall is very small (even for a medium sized woman). They also didn't look like the rooms on the website, and we both had a view of other rooms (not all had pulled their curtains!) and the AC vents. But we weren't in the rooms much. Television seemed to have only the in-hotel channel. Again, wasn't in the room much but it would have been nice. Bed was one of the best hotel beds I've ever encountered. Plenty of (but not too many) comfy pillows and clean linens. Overall, it's charming but I'm not one for old hotels that have been turned into renovated hotels.

Mark R.

Yelp
Hotel was nice but... The hotel valet curb rashed my wheels during our stay at St. Francis Hotel in late July 2023. After following their claim process, neither Heritage Hotel & Resorts (parent company of The St. Francis Hotel) or the insurance company will compensate for the damage. Please video your wheels before, during and after you hand your keys to their staff so you do not have to deal with the aggravation that I had to deal with.

Yelp
The history of the hotel is great, the decor has stayed consistent with the classic old Santa Fe feel. Unfortunately, for the price, they could do some important updates. For one, there's absolutely no counter space. We have a free-standing sink outside of the actual bathroom (which is fine, and probably was part of the original architecture), but being a pedestal sink, there's no counter space and nowhere to put any of your toiletries. We ended up moving a side table over next to the sink - which only had enough room for one of our sets of toiletries - so we have to take turns using it. The heat in the room also does not work. We had it up all the way, and cool air is still the only thing coming out of the vent. We also had a view of (what could be a nice little courtyard area) but instead, it's trash cans and extra outdoor supplies (heaters, chairs, etc.) so that was a bummer or a view. Although we had a small fridge in the room, there's no coffee machines. Instead, they offer coffee via a little coffee/tea station downstairs in the lobby - which was actually out of coffee when we stopped by to get some...the floors in the room are older, wooden floors - which again, is probably part of the original architecture, but it also makes it feel very cold or dirty to walk on. I would recommend they at least put down some rugs to help with that. I ended up having to use multiple hand towels by the sink and around to walk on, if I wasn't using my flip flops. They also had tears in the curtains, our window randomly blew open one day when we were out, so came into a really cold room (in addition to the heater not working) that was uncomfortable. The staff is very nice and accommodating, but I think for the money, they could do a few more updates to make it worth the price. "Selling it" just based on its historical value, isn't going to be sustainable, especially seeing so many similar reviews/complaints. Word gets around :/

Yelp
Stayed here recently on a weekend getaway from Denver and couldn't be more pleased. There weren't many people staying at the hotel, which may account for the attentiveness, but we felt absolutely pampered... The front desk staff spent a lot of time and energy with us -- giving recommendations, a lay of the land, bottled water any time we requested it, and they hurriedly built fires in the lobby (and tended them) both nights at our whim. We felt like royalty. The property is well located (plenty of shops/restaurants/museums to walk to) and the standard king room was spotless and perfectly appointed. The bathroom facilities were a tad tight, but functional. The lobby was so beautiful (especially in the evenings when the candles are lit) that we spent a lot of time relaxing there between excursions. Parking was also easy peasy. In order to keep this review real (I realize it sounds overly gushy at this point), I will mention that our room was not cleaned/reset during our stay. Not a big deal for us, but it did seem strange. There was no mention of resource conservation, nor were we asked our cleaning preference -- it just wasn't done (I'm wondering if it was just missed). Regardless, we would go out of our way to stay here again, if/when we find ourselves in Santa Fe.

Yelp
I have to give one star. I whole heartedly believe I caught COVID here! The remodeled look was nice and deceiving as the heat cool hasn't been updated in decades-hence the air circulation is terrible. If that isn't bad enough, they opened a bar inside which allowed patrons to smoke (I thought this was illegal now) w unmasked potentially unvaccinated (tho who knows) people drinking, eating which extended Into the main lobby w no way to avoid it if you're staying here. Avoid the mineral store next door as well. I got yelled at for wearing a mask. Clearly no one here is taking this pandemic seriously and I have yet to recover.

Yelp
This place is soooo overpriced for what it is! It was like living in a haunted Catholic Church that hasn't been remodeled. I'm all about history BUT at least update the heating and cooling system (LOL). We stayed here, and first of all they downgraded our reservation. There was no apology and they intended to charge us for the deluxe room even though we were in the standard. Nice try! Some of the receptionists were straight up mean. They never said hi or anything. The last receptionist on our last day was pretty helpful and I wished we spoke with him earlier about our issues. Cons: - the room was stuffy at & the heating system was bad (I had a bloody nose the first night because it was so dry) - the sink was outside the bathroom & would not drain right - there was no space in the room... Pros: - great location - opening up the windows & turning on the heater helped

Yelp
The most peaceful and romantic hotel. I wish we could come more often. It was a dream in the winter time. We came here on our honeymoon. We didn't rent a car. In my opinion, the city is small and very walkable. This hotel is right in the center of it all. The decor is peaceful and serene, like a spa. And the rooms, while small, are cozy and beautiful.

Yelp
I surprised my boyfriend with a weekend trip for his bday and decided to visit Santa Fe! We stayed at Hotel St. Francis due to the convenient location, price, and chic restaurant additions in house. We had a great visit with amazing hospitality. I was able to get the housekeeping team to help me with setting up wine/balloons/flowers for my boyfriends birthday which was great. Huge thanks to them for making the process so smooth for me. I'd also like to thank Holly on the reception team as she was able to help me with the set up process and even remembered my boyfriends birthday once we arrived! Only problem we encountered - the bathroom had difficulty flushing. Found myself having to flush 3 times. Poor plumbing! Other than that...thank you for a wonderful stay!

Yelp
I traveled from LA to Santa Fe.. we wanted to stay on / near the square, we found Hotel St Francis.. $550 a night.. we arrived and there was no service for luggage, the front desk 'assigned' a room and we went up.. we could not open the door.. we're told to 'push it hard'.. my wife said we had to 'put a hip into it'.. once in the room it has a 'musky/smoky' smell.. the bath is small and the shower is tired..broken handles, mildew in corners.. we decided to try and open the windows to air it out.. only to get the air conditioner sounds from next door.. we chose to leave early and pay the $550 one night penalty to get out..

Fran B.

Yelp
Take advantage of the public. I had an inferior room for $400night due to Indian market..then they upped it to $699 plus tax plus a $30 day facility fee. Not a full service hotel, no restaurant except for night. Cheap. Thin towels, a sink in the small bedroom with a kitchen fsu et that sprayed when you turned it on. Old and having character is okay this was old and crappy. Not a picture on the wall. This hotel is a huge rip off, with a good location.

Mark B.

Yelp
TIny rooms at LARGE prices. The room they put me in is 12' x 12' and its cramped--the sink can only be used while sitting on the bed! Plus and this is aggravating about many hotels now--they charge a surprise RESORT FEE of $28 and there's no resort. The lobby's and common areas are so grand and Uber spacious. One could fit 20 rooms into the size of the lobby. I think they must have split up large rooms or even closets of large rooms and are now calling them real hotel rooms even though they're less than 144 square feet!

Yelp
I stayed at this hotel for 6 days for a seminar. While I was there I saw a friend of mine who handcrafts vegan skin care products. On the morning we left my room friend put all the white towels on the white tile floor and my $150 white bag or products got left on the floor and we missed packing it. I called the next day and spoke to someone at the desk who said that nothing was in lost and found. I called back the next day, asked for the manager's name, and spoke to him. He was supposed to get back to me later in the same day. No Callback. I called back the next day and he hadn't even checked. He went to check and said no bag was turned in. I KNOW FOR A FACT the bad was left in the bathroom with only means that the cleaning staff took it and didn't turn it in. I understand I left it behind but our company is based in the Santa Fe area and we will be returning here often. I would NOT stay at this hotel again as obviously they don't have ethical employees and I would not want them cleaning the room while I stayed at this hotel. Who knows what would go missing if you left it out or left something behind? Try a different hotel.

Yelp
Stayed here the holidays before Covid hit. Just never got around to reviewing it -- my bad. Our week here was incredible. The location is in the heart of everything -- with Cafe Pasqual's across the street! No, they don't serve breakfast but why would you with this historic breakfast hot spot right outside the front door? Not into a lot of the New Mexican kitsch so the French vibe fit us perfectly. The staff was most gracious, every single one of them. Requests answered promptly, cars delivered tout suite. However, in these historic walls, floors, I highly suggest taking house slippers or have socks handy. Maybe it's just me, but I want something between my tootsies and those old floors. Over the years I've stayed just about everywhere in this artsy community and I've (we've) never been happier anywhere.

Yelp
Stayed there June 2023, the most unpleasant experience in Santa Fe. There was no air conditioning or hot water. The staff could only say, "Sorry". The people absolutely don't care. The step up into the bathroom is an accident waiting to happen. This place should be condemned. Total waste of your money.

Yelp
Did not stay here just stopped by to have some cocktails. Sat on the front covered patio off the bar. Service was excellent! Have a smoked Margherita and a traditional Margherita as well. Both were delicious.

Yelp
Nope. Stayed here over Labor Day Weekend. Small, expensive, cramped rooms. No air conditioning. It's a quaint hotel on the surface but poor value for money. Staff were about 50/50 in terms of service and graciousness. The one true gem is the Wine Tasting Room/Wine Bar. These folks are exemplary, the wine isn't bad either. Look long and hard at your options in Downtown Santa Fe, this won't be a hotel I return to.

Yelp
Avoid and Beware Folks. 20 dollar daily resort fee for what? What resort? This is no resort. At least they refunded that part after I complained. Please read my first hand experience at this hotel below. The the only positive thing this hotel has going for it is the location but other than that I would strongly suggest to look elsewhere. We paid nearly $400 a night and were seriously disappointed and downright uncomfortable. To start, the rooms here are extremely small and dangerous to adults, as well as toddlers. The sink/vanity in all rooms are separate from the bathroom and a mere 2 feet from the bed. The sink has super sharp edges on corners for a child to very easily bump into and get serious head trauma. (See photos with this review). Also, the water smelled rancid like raw sewage or rotten eggs. I was worried to death to let my 2 year old girl walk around the room. Sharp and pointy edges everywhere including the cabinet and floor lamps. Again, the janky bathroom has no sink. The rustic styled sink is separate from bathroom and comes out from the wall and into the sleeping area. Believe it or not there is a huge step that goes up into the bathroom. Really easy to trip and get injured. Here is what the hotel does NOT have: No Room Service No Coffee Maker in Room No Desk in Room Poorly functioning A/C No garbage cans in hallways. No Vending Machines for snacks. Hideous lighting in room No Pool No in house mini store to even buy a toothbrush. No laundry service. My goodness, the YMCA offers more than this hole. I can't emphasize enough how unsafe the room is for small children based on my observations. In our experience, the staff here was unhelpful. More often than not, they did not answer the phones at night. Overall, there are a lot better options out there for your money in my humble opinion. For 400 a night, they should at least have room service. It was so bad, that we hated idea of going back to our room after day of excursions because it was not a space to relax. I will never ever come back here. Do your research folks. Buyer Beware. If your looking for an overpriced hotel and a horrific experience while in Santa Fe, then Hotel Saint Francis might be an option. Vacations are expensive. Wish I would have done more research before we stayed here and received so little in return.

Yelp
Anthony Gutierrez made our stay at St. Francis awesome! We were not happy with the room the first night and Anthony assured us he would find us a room with a better view and better room configuration for our second night. He was super helpful, professional and understanding without being annoyed or condescending. Our new room was amazing! Thank you so much Anthony you deserve a raise. We will definitely return! Yelp
I want to preface this review by saying we loved everything about this hotel. The staff (clearly under pressure during a very busy season!!) managed to remain friendly, helpful, and attentive throughout our stay. It is beautiful and dog friendly, so our party of three were treated to happy conversations and my dog got more loving and pats than we ever expected. There was something in our room that severely set off allergies in both my husband and me. I suspect it is mold. We could spend 45 minutes in the room, and both would start sneezing. If we left to go for several hours of sightseeing or whatever, our symptoms disappeared. We spent $75 on allergy over the counter meds to survive the trip. Nights were terrible because we suffered congestion and scratchy throats. There are no pollens present this time of year. The small room was cozy and we have stayed in these restored boutique hotels before. Not a problem for us. We also noticed the sulphuric smell in the sink when running water. Maybe the mold is in the pipes? A squirt of peroxide or chlorine down the drain could fix that! Exceptional service by Ann Marie, our housekeeper; Victoria, the front desk manager upon our arrival; and Thor, the restaurant manager, must be mentioned here. If you are not allergy prone, I do highly recommend Hotel St. Francis. The location is perfect!

Yelp
Pros: the hotel is charming and attractive inside and out, staff are polite and helpful, attached steakhouse is amazing. Cons: the climate control is dated and not very effective at all, in our room (229) the toilet & bath/shower were in a separate room but the sink was in the opposite corner of the main room, worst of all, our room, for the entire stay, sounded as if someone was running a generator just outside the single pane windows. It seems to have been some part of the ventilation system, but it was noisy as hell and both my wife and I needed earplugs to sleep. If the hotel tries to put you in room 229 do yourself a favor and decline - unless you are deaf. Overall I would recommend the location and visiting the hotel for the lobby bar or restaurant, but only staying here if you can get a verified quiet room. Otherwise you'll be upset, as I am, to have spent $450/night to get awful sleep.

Yelp
Location is amazing, nice hotel, friendly staff and seems very clean. Parking is convenient. Walking to the main plaza is a breeze. I would stay here again however I would not book the same room. The bed was comfy however the classic queen room we got did not look like what was advertised and it was so small! Very tight for two people. Think like European style hotel rooms. Keep in mind we travel with just two carry on sized bags. This room would not work well with full sized suite cases. When I booked it showed a desk with chair. There was a desk with a tv, however the room was so small the chair can not actually be used at the desk. If I would have known I would have asked about availability for other floor plans or upgrades. The sink was outside the bathroom which was a shock at first but worked fine. Room was decorated nicely and charming just disappointed in the size.

Yelp
Hotel St. Francis is a nice hotel with amazing atmosphere. It is quiet, clean and beautiful without trying too hard. You are transported to a chic version of Santa Fe from way back in the day. The hotel staff was all around helpful and pleasant. The adjoining bar is hip, has great drinks and the bartenders were delightful. The only minor issue was the size of the room. It was much smaller than expected. However, it was still quite nice and updated, so very easy to overlook. Everything else made up for it! I have been back to Santa Fe multiple times since staying here and each time I wish I would have just come back to Hotel St. Francis.

Yelp
April of 2021 was my second visit to the Hotel St. Francis. My first was in September of 2018. Firstly, let me say that the guest services department is spectacular. SPECTACULAR! Holly helped me to get an early check-in by 1 hour when I emailed her my request. It allowed for me to clean up after 8 hours of traveling, before I had to be at Meow Wolf. From there, when my room wasn't faced in the direction that I wanted (since I liked my view last time), she accommodated me no problem and sent a nice man, Lupe to come help me. When on my 3rd night, I had a noise issue from the 3rd floor, I had the night staff, Joaquin (I don't remember his name), help me to cease the issue and felt like he cared about finding out what was going on. They always made me hot coffee when I called to request it, (due to Covid it's more controlled). The two things I'd recommend to the hotel during COVID are: 1) We do need coffee back in our rooms AND if not possible due to covid, we need a delivery service so that we don't have to go to the lobby first thing in the morning without hair and makeup. Some of us need coffee in order to get up in the morning. 2) We need the bathrobes back. I was told by Holly they are gone due to covid but that doesn't make sense since we still have sheets and towels. I had to bring my own spa robe to use. Otherwise, a REALLY great stay. I will be back, the next time I'm in Santa Fe. It's the only place I stay!!

Yelp
I'm a bit torn between two or three stars. This is based on the afternoon tea ONLY. The pluses: its a really lovely hotel, wonderful atmosphere, and I'm sitting in an amazingly comfy chair in a lovely lobby in front of a crackling fire. The wait staff has been really great. But wow, this is not a good afternoon tea. I booked this early in the day assuming there would be a lot of food (I get a lot of afternoon teas, and always leave very full) because I needed to save room for dinner. But I for sure am going to leave hungry. For $36 per person, we each got 3 small quarters of different sandwiches. Three quarters of a sandwich per person! For $36! And unlike teas in England and pretty much everywhere else I've been (high and low end), you have to pay more to get extra sandwiches. There is one small, American-style scone per person. American scones are really sweet to be served with cream and jam, which is why most places do English-style scones. The jam is from a jar instead of being house made, and the cream (advertised as clotted cream on the menu) is really just whipped cream. Each person gets two small petit fours, which do look very lovely. Small tea selection but the one we chose (Monk's Grenadine) is excellent. The sriracha cucumber sandwiches were also great. But overall, at about $80 for two people, this is bad value, and I'm disappointed.

Yelp
For the price point I paid, this hotel gets a 4 star. The location makes it. The rooms are very Euro in size but clean and fitting for Sante Fe. The amenities were great. The bar in the hotel is also a lot of fun. Front desk service was good as well.

Yelp
I loved this little hotel. It is the oldest hotel in Santa Fe and is exactly what I imagined it would be. The clean yet simple lines and decorations fit the area perfectly. I imagine all the travelers who have stayed here and what Santa Fe was like in the 1800's. The room was small but perfect. Clean white linens and handmade wood furniture from local artisans. Perfection. We did have one foible which was the hot water takes a while to come on. When we asked the front desk they recommended letting the water run longer. That's a shame in an arid environment but it did work. Why a 5 star review with spotty hot water you ask? Because the hotel is historic and built in the 1800's. Why travel if you expect comfort all the time? The price was very reasonable (and part of our room cost goes towards historic preservation) seeing as we are literally five minutes from the square. We walked everywhere and were really able to take in the downtown area. Great hotel, very friendly service and we would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
The hotel is beautiful, the location is great and the staff is friendly. However the rooms are small, the beds are small, old and squeaky. The bathrooms are small with no counter space. Also the outlets could not handle my blow dryer. For the price I would expect more luxury out of our room. The location is great but the majority of Santa Fe is walkable so few more steps would be ok for a better room at that price.

Yelp
This was my second time staying at the St. Francis. The location and valet service are great. The lobby is southwestern chic and the Gruet tasting room and Steakhouse are both great on their own. The hotel rooms are funky and I enjoy it- the rooms range from tiny to extremely spacious- so definitely ask for a biggest room available of your type (queen/king, etc) at check in.

Yelp
Firstly, the front desk ladies, Jiyoung & Holly were absolutely fantastic! This review is not a reflection of their services because they were truly kind hospitality professionals! The room was quite small for a "King Deluxe." We had a rollaway bed for our son & it was literally springs wrapped in a sheet. I'm not joking, I don't know how that would pass as a bed! The floor would be more comfortable. I'm probably being too picky on this part but I expect blackout curtains in a hotel room... I've never been to one that didn't have them. They have the blackout material but the way they were installed, a few inches away from the wall, you get a pretty bright morning light even when they are completely closed. They do have good tv channels though! There is not a coffee maker in room & the coffee table downstairs is minimal. I expected something more along the lines of a coffee buffet I guess. There is not a bathroom ventilation fan so it gets awkward sharing with another person. It would be nice if they provided a room spray or something to compensate for the lack of an essential bathroom feature. The sink is located outside the bathroom. Not really a big deal in my opinion, but ours had an awful smell coming from it. The lobby is beautiful & one night they had a fire going but the next night, nothing. We wanted to sit on the couches by the fire with a glass of wine but still at 8:00 there was no fire. The bar was great! They have a huge selection of liquor (some that are hard to find even in Denver bars!) & the bartenders really hustled. They were slammed & still did a great job. It did take a little while to order but I'm fine with waiting for something that I want & good service. We saw that you are allowed to use 2 of their other hotels for pool/hottub/fitness center privileges so we went to Eldorado Hotel. The pool is on the roof, which is pretty neat & has a great view but the pool itself was disgusting & about 15x7feet. Quite small. The hot tub had brown grime dripping from the sides & an algae green tint on the bottom! The fitness center seemed legitimate though. We had changed into our swimsuits, gotten towels, checked with the front desk for a key, valeted our car, made the trip to the hotel all for complete disappointment. Don't go here if you want to sit in a hottub or use the pool. The parking is a little weird. You can valet for free (which is probably included in the $25 resort fee that you pay on top of your room rate) but you car is literally across the street so you have to ask the valet attendant for your car & they bring it around. I'm assuming that the main draw for this hotel is it's location. We thoroughly enjoyed walking around Santa Fe & being able to just go back to the room to get a coat, or to change our shoes. In summary, if you want a great location & won't be driving much or looking for amenities then I recommend this hotel. If you want a more relaxing luxurious experience then I'd suggest you look elsewhere.
