My girlfriend and I recently stayed at Hotel Stara Planina, and it was an ok experience. Finding the place wasn’t easy since there weren’t many signs along the road, but once we got there, it was a very positive surprise that they had a very large underground garage for cars.
Since it was off-season, the hotel was almost empty, which made for a peaceful stay. The room was cozy, and the bed was super comfy, but it was frustratingly hot inside, with no way to adjust the temperature, which made it hard to fully relax. The decor felt a bit outdated, and some common areas could definitely use a facelift, but overall, the place was clean.
The food was a real highlight, though—the restaurant served delicious meals, and we looked forward to enjoying them for 2 days. The spa was decent, with a nice sauna, but the pool was disappointing; the walls and floor felt slimy, probably from a lack of proper maintenance, which was pretty off-putting.
The staff’s English wasn’t great, but they were kind and did their best to communicate. I think this place would really come alive during the winter season, especially with its location right next to the ski slopes. It’s probably a great spot for families looking for a winter getaway.
