Yelp
Would you stay at a hotel which had only 4 reviews, all one star?
We stayed 2 nights at the Hotel Steffani in the center of St. Moritz, Switzerland, the world famous ski resort, as part of our Collette tour of Alpine Lakes and Scenic trains in July. Only 4 reviews on Yelp, all one star, but 329 reviews on TripAdvisor, averaging 4 stars. TripAdvisor rated 96 in walkability, with 36 restaurants and 13 attractions within 0.75 miles.
13 minute walk from the train station on the lake to the hotel, which is on an uphill grade from the lake. This is where the Glacier Express train arrives from Zermatt, and where the Bernina Express train run starts to Tiano, Italy.
Hotel is old but spacious. The bedroom was 9' x 9.5', the walk in closet 4.5' x 5.5', and the twin sink bathroom 4.5' x 9.5' , for a total of 155 square feet, easily the largest unit of the 5 hotels we stayed in our 14 day tour. As was the case with the previous 3 hotels, two twin beds bumped together.
The room was clean and modern styled, but lacked sufficient electrical outlets to easily recharge up our cell phone cameras, tablets, cameras, and laptops. Remember to bring multi outlet plugs and electrical adopters for Switzerland which differ from France, Germany and Italy.
Bathroom was glamorous looking, with two granite counter sinks, room length mirrors, heated towel racks, and a deep bathtub/shower combination. Looked like something from Las Vegas with the fancy décor.
Noise from the downtown plaza at night through the large openable windows. Glass door opens up to a small balcony, with partitions separating the neighbors.
We were in the inner corner of the fourth floor, with a balcony overlooking the city. However to see the lake in the background, you had to walk on the balcony. And neighbors perpendicular to us on the balcony peeking beyond where the partition ends, could see me typing my yelp reviews in my underpants, when I was wearing something!
Hotel has a sauna, large indoor pool, restaurant, and is adjacent to several restaurants on the plaza facing the entrance. We were here on a Saturday and Sunday nights, but there was minimal noise from the restaurants on the plaza, unlike in Zurich!
