Hotel Stern am Rathaus

This is the hotel you should stay at! Without a doubt, the best welcome I've had in a hotel, ever. Everyone is helpful, engaging, warm and funny. Breakfast is very good with lots of variety. The room was perfect for our short trip - shower, bath and air conditioning. It's also very quiet. And the location is close to the train station (5 minute walk), cathedral, shops and restaurants. Andy and Ingmar were _so_ helpful with advice on where to eat and drink. They're wonderful ambassadors for Köln.

We had an excellent experience staying a couple nights at Stern am Rathaus. The highlight was the wonderful staff led by Ingmar who provided us plenty of information about the city. Our room/suite was clean, had all the basics including a baby crib we requested in advance, and was centrally located only a few minutes away from major attractions including the cathedral. The parking was 15€/night at a nearby garage with hotel validation. The breakfast was fresh and delicious as well. It made our first visit to Germany great!

We recently spent three nights at Stern am Rathaus, and it truly exceeded our expectations. The location cannot be beat—right beside the city square, yet remarkably quiet and peaceful. We loved being just steps away from excellent restaurants, shops, and the main sights.|What made our stay especially memorable was the staff. Francisco greeted us warmly on arrival and gave us all the information we needed to feel settled and at home right away. Each morning, Kai went above and beyond at breakfast to ensure we were well looked after. The spread was fantastic—fresh, healthy options, delicious warm croissants, and made-to-order omelettes that quickly became a highlight. It was the perfect start to our days exploring Cologne.|We would absolutely recommend Stern am Rathaus to anyone visiting the city. Between the unbeatable location, the quiet comfort, and the exceptional hospitality, this little hotel is a gem.

Hello. We are very happy about our stay one weekend in September 2025 in Hotel Stern am Rathaus. It is a nice place in the heart of the city center of Köln, near the city hall (Rathaus), on walking distance from the central train station, the cathedral and the riverside. The receptionist is really very kind and helpful. The breakfast is amazing delicious, with so many little nice details that make the difference. The room is extremely quiet and the bed very comfortable. So, I can recommend this nice hotel to everybody and I will certainly book there again when I come back to Köln! Thanks a lot for everything! Husband and I spent five nights in this somewhat unusual, small hotel (8-10 rooms) and found it to be outstanding! The only feature which did not matter to us, but will to some, is there is no elevator and no ground floor rooms. If that isn't a bother, everything about this hotel is 5 star. The location is perfect. Adjacent to the Rathaus, in the center of Cologne, 5-10 minutes walk to everything, but on a side street so there is no traffic hustle. Very safe neighborhood. The room we stayed in was not large, but was modern in design and functionality: multiple outlets strategically placed; multiple lights with independent switches, so lighting can be focused for reading or all encompassing; plenty of flat open shelving; use of mirrors that makes the room feel more spacious; bedding was extremely comfortable; modern, well lit bathroom with great shower; also a safe and small refrigerator for drinks and a TV. ||In a hotel this small in a big city like Cologne, you'd expect a rudimentary, profunctory breakfast. Wrong! Stern am Rathaus had one of the top breakfasts we've ever had. All the usual products you'd expect in a good German hotel, plus they will make eggs and bacon if you wish. They have a creative spread of vegetables and dips, muesli and yogurt, plus a daily breakfast treat such as french toast or apple pancakes. Terrific coffee and tea options and juice. ||The hotel staff were all exceptionally helpful, friendly and cheerful. In addition to guiding us to shopping and sightseeing and being attentive at breakfast, they went out of their way to think of ways to be helpful. They volunteered to carry our luggage. They let us have early coffee and take croissants with us one morning when we had to leave before breakfast opened. The morning we were leaving Cologne, we had a train delay which threatened our Frankfurt flight. The on duty staff told us where to go in the train station and how to ask for the "fast train" for Frankfurt. We probably would have missed our flight home, if we hadn't. ||As I mentioned, we stayed at Stern am Rathaus for five nights. That provided us with plenty of time to see problems or slippage in quality of service. There was no slippage. The young staff were all terrific and a pleasure to chat with.

This was our second stay at Stern am Rathaus and it was just as good as I remember the first time. The accommodation is very comfortable and stylishly presented, the location perfect, and the hospitality second to none. We loved the breakfasts, the attention to detail of all staff and their good humour and pleasant nature. We will definitely be back and look no further than Stern am Rathaus.

The hotel and the staff were fabulous. The room was big enough for one traveler. I never saw such a big shower in Europe. The breakfast was delicious. The day of my departure breakfast did not start until 7:30 but they said I could start a little earlier to eat.

Small hotel in a central location providing a friendly service and excellent breakfast. Rooms are not huge but perfectly fine for our short stay in the city of Cologne. The location close to the railway station, the cathedral and central Cologne restaurants was ideal for us.
