What a great hotel. We stayed for 3 nights in April with our Great Rail Journeys tour group. The welcome from the staff was spot on and throughout our stay the service, care and attention we received from the team was very focused and appropriate. We stayed in room 105 which was a suite with a lovely seating area and view over the front garden area. The bed was huge, very comfortable with great quality bedding. It was very quiet so we slept really well. The food was also really good. Our meals were served in an upstairs private room which but everything was done well and we were very well looked after. The quality of the food in the evenings in particular far exceeded our expectations. The hotels restaurant and other private dining areas looked lovely too so it doesn't surprise me that their restaurant THE VELTLINER WEINSTUBEN AT THE STERN is very popular. This is definitely one of the nicest hotels we've ever visited. It's genuinely great to go somewhere that displays such high levels of competence.

We had a lovely stay at Hotel Stern. It has such a warm, family, home-away-from-home vibe. The staff were incredibly kind, the rooms were very clean, and the food was fresh and amazing. I’m already missing the hotel’s breakfast! It’s also centrally located in Chur, with a convenient car park at the back.

Lovely hotel and glad we stayed. Easy to find from the train station. Warmly welcomed and found our room 448 which was huge, spotlessly clean, well equipped including an adapter which helped because EU adapters don't work, our mistake. Bed and bedding was lovely and really comfy. Lovely sofa and easy chairs which we used in the evenings. Food in the restaurant was excellent. Salmon was delicious. Breakfast was plentiful, good selection, individually portioned out so reduces waste I would imagine. All the staff we encountered were helpful. Please disregard any negative reviews, this is a really good hotel.

No way is this 4 star, staff pretty friendly for most part, apart from one lady waitress who clearly wasn't getting any. Bedrooms OK. We were in a group of 28 people and shunted into a windowless room for breakfast and dinner, segregated from other guests, definitely the poorer relations.

A review that almost describes two hotels in one. We had been booked in by our travel company on a 4 star basis and I don’t think it was.|Certainly the friendliness of the staff was there and the hotel and bedroom were spotlessly clean. However, it was the bedroom itself which let our stay down.|It appears that we stayed in what appeared to be a 4th floor annexe to the main hotel. We had to exit reception, cross a small covered trackway and go into an attached building which had offices or businesses of one sort or another on the floors below us. To use the lift we had to insert the room key to operate the lift which, as we had only got one key, might have proved a problem if we had wanted to go out at separate times.|The room itself was clean as I have already said and quite sizeable. The problem was that there were beams and supports that meant that the usable room size was reduced and I, at 6ft1” height could not stand upright in half the floor area. Not only that, during night time perambulations to the bathroom, I had to remember to stoop to avoid hitting my head - and I didn’t every time.|The bathroom also had one of these angle supports inconveniently situated directly above the toilet so I couldn’t stand upright.|The free Wi-Fi was very hit and miss and it got quite tedious having to sign in over and over again.|Complimentary water was provided but alas, no fridge to put it in to keep it cool.|Breakfast was back in the main section of the hotel on the first floor. There was a fairly reasonable selection of food and for three days it proved no problem. I think that much longer than that, there would have been a boredom factor.|Summary. If you want to stay there, insist on a room in the main hotel. I would not recommend the annexe at all.

This is a beautiful old building done in a traditional Swiss style. Our room was on the 4th floor under the eaves. Unfortunately the lift only goes to the 3rd floor. The room was very small, hot and cramped and dominated by a large angled beam and inward opening windows. These two elements made getting in and out of bed something of an obstacle course. The TripAdvisor photos show much larger airier rooms - but we didn’t get one. We had warm weather so wanted the windows open but with no air conditioning this room would be very uncomfortable in the height of summer. We had to ask for more pillows as those provided weee very thin. Meagre offerings of a teabag each and no fridge although the water each day was appreciated. The shower is tiny and furnished with a shower curtain - any sudden movement in the shower will lead to the bathroom floor being covered in water. A very un 21st century arrangement. The kitchen staff chose to smoke in the courtyard below our window early in the morning and late (very late & chatting) at night. Finally, the breakfast offering was sparse and available in a starkly lit and unwelcoming room. Items are plated up and put out covered in cling film. Lots of plastic packets for example cheese, yogurt etc but you could ask for scrambled eggs. A rather ‘stern’ person in charge of the breakfast room! |Not 4* in my opinion. Chur is a delightful town. |I quite expect the proprietor to respond to this review with the standard words used by him to all comments. Shame that comments are not taken on board as all these points have been raised before.

This is an amazing hotel. It's very cozy and traditional. The staff is very very kind and co-operative. I requested them for a room change and they did so immediately. They have a restaurant below as well which serves traditional food. Please reserve your dinner place at the restaurant in advance as it gets sold out quickly.

The location of the facility was a 10-minute walk from the train station, in a quiet and central location in the old city area. The hotel staff was helpful. The restaurant under the hotel was excellent, you should definitely make a reservation. The hotel was old but vibe and view both were amazing; however, the facilities in the room were insufficient. I expected a mini bar and slippers in a 4 star hotel
