What a great hotel. We stayed for 3 nights in April with our Great Rail Journeys tour group. The welcome from the staff was spot on and throughout our stay the service, care and attention we received from the team was very focused and appropriate. We stayed in room 105 which was a suite with a lovely seating area and view over the front garden area. The bed was huge, very comfortable with great quality bedding. It was very quiet so we slept really well. The food was also really good. Our meals were served in an upstairs private room which but everything was done well and we were very well looked after. The quality of the food in the evenings in particular far exceeded our expectations. The hotels restaurant and other private dining areas looked lovely too so it doesn't surprise me that their restaurant THE VELTLINER WEINSTUBEN AT THE STERN is very popular. This is definitely one of the nicest hotels we've ever visited. It's genuinely great to go somewhere that displays such high levels of competence.

Hotel Stern has a lot of charm, with a welcome old-style elevator and|long hallways connecting its various wings. Nicely maintained, a good experience. The affiliated outdoor restaurant next door is quiet, set back from street shaded and cooled by old trees, with a satisfying menu.|Historic Chur (Altstadt) itself is well worth two days on foot exploring museums|and sites, especially if you speak or read German. Otherwise the town might be|dull for children or water-oriented tourists.|We had lunch in the Hof, the bishop's residence -- just in time before restaurant closed for summer (first week July).

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights as part of a bigger Swiss holiday. Situated in Chur old town, but still in walking distance of modern amenities and the station. Room was lovely with very rustic charm. Supplied all the usual requirements with thoughtful additions of power adapter and umbrella. Toni and his staff were very helpful and a joy to deal with. Excellent food. We enjoyed a couple of dinners and wonderful breakfasts. Would highly recommend and would stay again if we visit Chur in the future.

We had a lovely stay at Hotel Stern. It has such a warm, family, home-away-from-home vibe. The staff were incredibly kind, the rooms were very clean, and the food was fresh and amazing. I’m already missing the hotel’s breakfast! It’s also centrally located in Chur, with a convenient car park at the back.

Lovely hotel and glad we stayed. Easy to find from the train station. Warmly welcomed and found our room 448 which was huge, spotlessly clean, well equipped including an adapter which helped because EU adapters don't work, our mistake. Bed and bedding was lovely and really comfy. Lovely sofa and easy chairs which we used in the evenings. Food in the restaurant was excellent. Salmon was delicious. Breakfast was plentiful, good selection, individually portioned out so reduces waste I would imagine. All the staff we encountered were helpful. Please disregard any negative reviews, this is a really good hotel.

This is an amazing hotel. It's very cozy and traditional. The staff is very very kind and co-operative. I requested them for a room change and they did so immediately. They have a restaurant below as well which serves traditional food. Please reserve your dinner place at the restaurant in advance as it gets sold out quickly.

Interesting historic hotel, which was kind of a maze inside trying to find our tour groups breakfast room. We accidentally ate in the wrong room one morning. Bedrooms had been retrofitted, so some of them had little steps into rooms, into the bathroom, etc. The shower floor also had a ledge inside that could easily be tripped/slipped on. Someone in our group said the shower leaked all over the floor. I had a single room, which included a single bed, bathroom, desk, and wardrobe. Bottled waters were complimentary and replenished (sparkling and still). The room had everything I could need, besides a mini fridge, which was disappointing. The doors were made of heavy wood with very large heavy keys. If you don't want to carry them around, they will hold at the front desk until you get back. There is a small elevator if you don't want to take the stairs. The breakfasts were very elegant - smoked salmon, meats, bread, juice, coffee, hot chocolate, tea, yogurt, muesli, fruit, veggies, soft boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, cheese, etc. The group dinners were less exciting. As a part of our group tour through Vacations By Rail, we had a couple of 3 course meals included. There were only a couple of choices for main and starter that we selected the night before. The mains especially did not wow me. One of the desserts was completely frozen, but I am not sure if it was meant to be as it was hard to eat. I would have preferred to dine outside of the hotel or had more choices with our tour group in the actual restaurant. One dinner was served in the hotel breakfast room, while the other night was in the restaurant. Maybe the restaurant meals would be better a la carte rather than made for a group. The staff tried to scare people to make reservations in the hotel restaurant on our free night, saying nothing good would be open on a Monday, but they were incorrect. We found several options with Swiss specialties that were open. The location is perfect for exploring Old Town while remaining quiet. Walking distance to the train isn't too bad and it's all flat.

No way is this 4 star, staff pretty friendly for most part, apart from one lady waitress who clearly wasn't getting any. Bedrooms OK. We were in a group of 28 people and shunted into a windowless room for breakfast and dinner, segregated from other guests, definitely the poorer relations.
