Everything was easy and wonderful. The booking was smooth and interacting with Barbara made everything pleasant. The hotel is a gem. And my room was large and comfortable. |The location, in a quiet tree-lined residential neighborhood, was perfect. There are small cafes and museums nearby and the French Quarter is a pleasant short (less than 1/2 mile) walk. I won’t hesitate to stay here again on my next NOLA visit!

A charming retreat near the French Quarter and close to the stadium. Plenty of street parking and personalized keyless entry into the hotel and room.|Clean, small, intimate. I stayed in the Captain’s Quarters . I enjoyed a kitchen, dining table, living room and king bed bedroom. Plenty of space overlooking a large garden area. Definitely a place to come back to.|Such a welcome change to the usual dime a dozen commercial hotels.

Great hotel on the edge of the French Quarter. We had a girls weekend in the French Quarter. The rooms are roomy and perfect for a group experience. We ate out most nights, cooked breakfast in the room and had leftovers for lunch/brunch. Our room slept four and had a kitchen and dining area plus a living area for socializing. Loved the court yard and balcony for hanging out.

Easy check in, great location, clean & beautiful property. As a travel agent & event planner who owns a cleaning business as well- will definitely reccomend. The location is safe & convenient. You can street park or have private parking. Uber is easy to locate & it's central to most desired travel spots.

The owner, Barbara, was great to work with! We rented the courtyard for a rehearsal dinner. The courtyard is so beautiful! She set up a New Orleans themed menu and the food was delicious!! Although we did not stay at the hotel, we did peek at the rooms and they are very cute! I would definitely recommend this place for an event and plan on staying here next time we are in town.

Unstaffed hotel I was the other guest at the hotel which had the following issues.1. We were not expecting the hotel to be unstaffed for the whole weekend. 2.when we arrived our room was not ready and we had to stay in a different room the first night. When they moved us ,the refrigerator door fell off when I opened it. Luckily I didn’t hurt myself. There were no handles on the shower and the shower did not work. There was no night table in the second bedroom and we never received clean towels the whole weekend we were there. Or had our rooms cleaned. Courtyard was lovely, side gate had no lock, can easily enter the court yard. we expected more for the price will never return and recommend nobody stay here. Barbara was not very helpful and not on site as expected.

We were not expecting an unstaffed hotel. Nowhere on the website does it say that. To me the word "hotel" implies that there's a staffed front desk. The owner/manager lives in an adjoining state but is responsive via text/phone call and pleasant. We stayed five nights (in the first floor 2-bedroom suite) and never got clean towels or had used ones taken away. The dresser drawers in my room were so overwhelmingly musty smelling that I never put my clothes in there and lived out of my suitcase. The comforter was stained and its cleanliness questionable. The smaller bedroom has no night table to put your bedtime essentials on. The courtyard is lovely, but the front gate at the street has no lock, nor does the back gate into the courtyard. Anyone could walk in off the street. There are keypad locks on all the other doors. We couldn't shower our first night in the room because there was only one handle for cold water. I'm sorry we didn't take pictures, but we weren't thinking of documenting the deficiencies, we were trying to ignore them and get out and just have a good time at the 3 day/night music festival we came to town for. The door to the fridge that had been delivered the day before fell right off when we opened it because it had not been screwed on! Luckily it didn't land on someone's foot. Someone came the next day to fix the fridge door and show us how to get hot water by rotating the piece that comes out of the wall that the handle should be attached to. The bathroom faucets are backwards, right is hot, left is cold. Someone should have checked beforehand that everything in the suite was clean and functional. The location is convenient, lots of stuff nearby. Some pros, some cons, your mileage may vary depending on your room and your expectations. We expected more for the price we paid. We wouldn't return.

Yelp
Let's try a non-traditional hotel for a change in New Orleans. One thing I've noticed from crashing with NOLA friends here is that the housing for the most part is pretty bad. Even the hotels are bad compared to other cities. Spaces are smaller, the infrastructure is older, plumbing seems to be more outdated, just dirtier all around. This is especially true in the French Quarter. Hotel Storyville feels more like a home than a hotel. Parking is on the street so that's a hit or miss. It's not a bad walk to the French Quarter and it's very close to Cajun Seafood! My favorite dirty dive for cheap seafood. The room I stayed in is bigger than a traditional hotel room, with more character (kind of decorated with a beachy theme, which is confusing because we are not on a beach), and comes with a kitchen. Though if you're in NOLA, you're here to eat out at the fabulous restaurants and shouldn't be cooking. If prices are comparable to traditional hotels, I would give this a shot.

Yelp
Went to a event here today, what a fabulous place. Its a small two-story hotel on Esplanade. So cute. Refreshing colors. The front has a wonderful lawn, pretty flowers, lots of seating. There is even a little fake cat sitting out front, that absolutely terrified me. The backyard area was wonderful! It was huge little ponds and stands all over! Great setup for parties and weddings during good weather. Spring time event would be perfect here. Minimal parking, in back twenty parking spots. You can find some parking in the area along Esplanade.

Yelp
we wold have loved to skip this stay. Here's why. 1. There was no customer service, no one was there at all. 2. The backyard photos must have been staged because it was pretty barren while we were there. Was not lush- was junk . 3. There was not even soap or shampoo in the bathroom 4. Overall it was more like economy short term housing than a hotel or b&b. 5. The furniture and lighting was not good.

Yelp
Im going to just list the pros and cons on this one, im just very mixed in my opinion on this place. That being said, i would not stay here again. So see below for my notes... Pros: neat backyard area, easy parking, fun beach theme decor, good location to visit popular tourist areas around city, owner upgraded us from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom Cons: the linens and towels smelled like mildew so it was hard to sleep because of the smell of them (bring your own!), no soap or shampoo, limited toilet paper (we had to buy our own after day 2), linens were never changed, no security, dishes in the cabinets had caked on food, Owner told us she would give us a goody-bag of coupons for attractions and never did (which wouldn't have been a big deal but she made a bog deal about telling us about it and then didn't do it), back porch needed a hand rail on it--my mother almost fell off of it, no check-in process, no front desk, no signs of management for days on end. After writing this, I feel like I'm being picky but most of the cons are pretty basic hospitality industry standards, which were simply not met. The main problem being the cleanliness factor...so, there's my info, decide it yourself.

Yelp
The really standout thing about this place is their fantastic backyard and patio area which is one of the largest and most amazing of any in NOLA! They have bananas growing on their trees ready to eat along with an amazing cabana and bar area ready for a party. The interior of the hotel is nice but some of the rooms are quite small so be specific about what you need when booking a room as there is some variation. Hotel Storyville definitely has more of a friendly hostel feeling to it than a fancy hotel. Depending on what you're looking for this place might exceed your expectations or make you wish for more fancy digs but for most folks it should be quite adequate.

Yelp
We bought two Groupons for a total of a three-night stay here. When we booked, I initially had some trouble getting in contact with the manager (Barbara), but we finally connected. I was able to book on the dates I wanted and everything - no hassle. The day before our stay, Barbara called me and the boy toy to confirm what time we were coming in, answer our questions, etc. She gave us some great advice (like not renting a car, based on the sites we wanted to visit). She also told us that our first night we'd be staying in a different hotel (Hotel Olivier) since we had two different Groupons. It was the first I'd heard of it, but we're pretty easy going and travel light so it wasn't a big deal at all. In fact, looking back I'm actually really happy that we got to stay there because the Hotel Olivier was a super cool old hotel! Anyway...after staying at Hotel Olivier, Barbara picked us up from the hotel, drove us to Hotel Storyville, let us put our bags in an anteroom (our room wasn't ready at the time), and told us when our room would be ready. She had given us her cell number earlier and told us to call with any questions / problems. During the day we called her to set up the tours we got through our Groupon and she took care of everything for us. When we rolled in late that night, toasted from our cocktail tour (yes, I highly recommend it...through Historic Tours New Orleans, Inc.), we had to call her to let us in because we didn't know the code to the front door. She rushed downstairs and helped us. Our room was pretty nice. I didn't have any problems with linens or towels or anything. But it wasn't like 4-star quality hotel. It was more like staying at someone else's lake house. It was super quiet (since it's on Esplanade, north-east-ish of the French Quarter) and the neighborhood was beautiful! Overall, I was very happy with our stay. Barbara was AWESOME! Seriously, so helpful and that more than made up for the hotel's lack of amenities and front door issues :)

Yelp
A great place to stay. The location was perfect for us (in a quiet location just outside of the French quarter) and the room was plenty large enough. Barbra was nice & gave us some 2 for 1 coupons for lunch and attractions. One complaint is that we had to ask for new towels because there was only 1 set and they did not get changed out.

Cynthia H.

Yelp
We've visited New Orleans 3 time and always make it a point to stay here. The location is perfect as it is central to the Frenchmen, Bourbon Street and the French Quarter. The venue is historic, clean and each room is spacious with a different feel. And the garden in the back is quiet and peaceful and great for small quaint parties. The management is always gracious in letting us keep our luggage a little longer as we wait for our flight. Storyville is part of why we love New Orleans. We'll always return to this NOLA gem!

Yelp
We traded here through our RCI timeshare. We planned a trip with our 2 young daughters to visit New Orleans. Barbara wasn't the least bit accommodating to us. I have never felt more in her way for being there. We had to call her for EVERYTHING!!! We could not get in or out of parking without calling Barbara. We had to wait for someone to let us in the front gate, after 15 minutes in the rain I had to call her back so she could just give me the code to get in. She made remarks about my daughters playing in the courtyard in the back. However, she never would come and actually talk to me. We tried to make the best of it. She acted completely put out that we were even there. Her housekeeper had to get her for me to get the code to get in and out of our room and Barbara still didn't want to even acknowledge me, she tried to talk to the housekeeper. I had to ask her to show me, since we would be the ones staying in the room. We stayed one night, and the next morning my husband killed 7 roaches in the kitchen. That was the final straw. It didn't look dirty but I am not taking roaches home with me. Needless to say, we left and stayed elsewhere. If I could give her less then one star, I would.

Yelp
I booked this gem after meeting Barbara through a mutual friend. Hotel Storyville is nestled within a quintessential New Orleans neighborhood with convenient access to Jazz Fest, Essence, French Quarters, food markets, restaurants, bars, galleries, museums and historic sites. This beautifully equipped, apartment-style inn has a large, private back yard with covered lounge areas. The covered front porch and second floor balcony provide a street view of the neighborhood with the security of a gated yard. Two girlfriends and I vacationed comfortably for 5 days and four nights, and enjoyed walkable routes to our favorite places. The trolley to Bourbon Street is a block away and adventures outside of the area are an inexpensive Lyft away!

Yelp
We had called the owner/manager earlier in the day to arrange check in time. Arrived and no one was available and the front gate was locked. After numerous calls and messages we actually got in the gate through the neighbors yard. The front door was open , but nobody came when we called. We left our luggage inside the door and waited on the front step for about 30-40 minutes before a staff member arrived. The owner never did come to complete the check in paper work. Cleanliness seemed clean upon arrival. The front door was tricky to unlock- the staff even had a hard time. The owner came and said it was due to temperature changes and swelling. Funny tho... the door was fixed and lock changed a couple days later. The towels were damp and smelly. There was no stopper for the sink to properly wash dishes and the temperature of the water in kitchen was low. We found numerous COCKROACHES in kitchen, on cupboards and in dining room. We did recieve replacement towels that evening. Owner not too concerned about the bugs.... said an exterminator had been there days before but not back for the 20 day inspection so all bugs were not dead. We found 10-12 total in the week ranging in size... so gross. Felt uncomfortable about the cleanliness.. With the cockroach issues left unresolved to our satisfaction we started looking closer and found lots of unclean areas in the kitchen. The owner had the exterminator come back... but that is too late. She should have NEVER rented the room knowing there was a bug problem. There were other rooms available... should have been upgraded immediately without being made to feel as an inconvenience. As the situation never got better... we were left completely disgusted and unsatisfied but too late to do anything about it. As we found at least 2 live cockroaches every day we felt our food was unsafe and dishes and counter tops were unclean. Staff did come in and clean the kitchen once. We asked for bleach to sanitize the dishes twice- that was not done. Asked again for a sink drain stopper to wash dishes... one never came. Towels were musty and left you feeling unclean and skin smelly. The replaced them 2 x but they were not much better. Found dried up food, used cocktail straws, etc in a couple of dark corners in the kitchen. They made up the room, but never cleaned the bathroom or changed the sheets. The cockroaches were an ongoing issue and the owner blamed the exterminator and asked if we wanted to move to a different room on the last day as no other rooms had problems apparently. Owner said cockroaches take 2-4 visits to eliminate and they had called when the first saw a problem... which was just days before we checked in. This room should never have been rented knowing there was a problem. Also- the codes to get in & out of the front gate, front door and rooms seem like they never change. Any one in the past and currently staying there can likely get into all the rooms!

Yelp
This place is amazing!!! We have been treated as family here! Barbara is a very kind woman. The rooms are beautiful and unique! I highly recommend this place!!!

Yelp
This place is great in theory, but stops short due to how poorly managed it is. We arrived 1 hour before check in, and after about 20 minutes they told us our room wasn't ready yet. No problem, we knew we were early. We came back nearly 3 hours later and were told all the rooms were ready, but they weren't sure which one to put us in because the woman who runs it, Barbara was no where to be found. They eventually told us which room was ours, and when Barbara finally showed up she essentially said "well your room is ready now, isn't it?". Then, our fridge didn't work. I know this may not be a bid deal for some people but we have a baby and babies need milk, and milk needs a fridge. We called Barbara who did apologize but said there wasn't anything she could do about it. Also, that's what you have to do if you have any questions or need anything - call Barbara. There isn't a desk or someone just around if you need anything. They have 3 parking spots in the front, and I was told a few in the back but if you need to get back there you have to (you guessed it) call Barbara. Other than that, the room was a good size, it' a cute hotel, and it's in walking distance to the French Quarter and to several other places to eat and see. However, I can't in good faith recommend this to anyone because if you told me that you showed up here and they lost your reservation or your AC broke and no one came to fix it I would not be surprised.

Yelp
I definitely have mixed feelings about my stay at Hotel Storyville. I wanted to stay in a place in NOLA near the French Quarter and in a hotel that had the NOLA charm and feel, which Storyville definitely does. The hotel does have charm. I stayed for three nights. The room was small but clean. I did find it odd that the bed was in the same small space as the sink and shower, with only a thin curtain separating them. At least the toilet was in a space with a door, not in the room as well. The lighting was very poor and non-existent over the sink/vanity. The room had a fridge and microwave. Unfortunately the microwave didn't work properly and I couldn't use it. The air conditioner worked well which was nice. In the three days of my stay, not once was the garbage picked up or the room straightened up. I had to ask for clean towels which were provided. The manager, Barbara, was very nice and helpful with suggestions for the area, which I appreciated. This was my first visit to NOLA. I didn't have big expectations of Hotel Storyville however for the price per night for staying there and given the issues I noted, I will look at other hotels to stay at when I return next time.

Yelp
This place is a treasure. We performed in the garden, the bathrooms were clean and nice, the staff and owners were so accommodating, loving and welcoming, and we all had a great time. Go there, have your event there, send your friends there, it rocks.

Yelp
I came here for a friends birthday party in the back garden. The area was very well kept and a great atmosphere. The food was catered by the hotel and the staff were very friendly. I would recommend looking into renting the garden out for a small gathering or reception, especially in the nice weather seasons.

Yelp
We stayed here for a bachelor party-- 12 of us for 2 nights, and we couldn't have been happier about how it worked out! Barbara was a great host, held a cookout for us, and the place was perfect! Lots of kitchens and spacious bedrooms, and very close to Bourbon St!

Yelp
DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!! The owner was very very difficult to reach by phone or email and conveniently never seemed to be in the office when we tried to confirm our reservations were officially in her books. Finally, about two weeks before we were to arrive we received an email from her confirming she had the room set aside for us for two nights at the agreed-upon rate. We were happy with that, and traveled 8 hours from Austin Texas to visit New Orleans and also see a football game. We called the owner when we got into town around 1 p.m. and she told us that we could check in anytime after 3 p.m. Upon arriving our first night at the hotel around 4pm, we were informed that she had given our room away to the guests of a wedding party, although previously she had told us there were no events booked at her hotel the weekend of our stay. This woman is a liar and is heartless to put two people out of a room when they've traveled 8 hours.... we ended up having to stay in a horrific hotel and I recommend never ever ever ever ever doing business with this woman she is horrible,.... she doesn't even deserve one star negative stars should be given and I plan to contact the Better Business Bureau on her what an awful human!!!

Yelp
Recently I contacted Hotel Storyville to book a 2 bedroom suite for end of October. Barbara (manager) responded and informed me the 2 bedroom suite was available. As it was Voodoo Fest I had to book 3 nights which I confirmed we could do. Barbara quoted a price and I confirmed and provided my credit card information (all booking is done via Barbara and not on line). Barbara informed me I had to pay one night up front and she would send me a receipt via email. 2 weeks later I still had not received the email so I followed up. Barbara emailed me informing me that the price quoted was incorrect and the actual price was $100 over quoted price. But she would provide discounted but price was still $30 a night higher. She wanted to know if I still wanted the suite. I quickly wrote back saying I did in fact want the suite but felt she should honor what was quoted. I made multiple calls (over 5) and sent several emails over the next month but no response was provided. I can only assume that the suite was rented to someone at the higher rate. As I had made my plans for activities in NO this had a major impact which caused me additional time, work and money. I feel it only appropriate to share with others this experience. Integrity, Ethics and honesty are essential characters to a successful business and lifestyle.

Yelp
Beautiful grounds in a beautiful neighborhood. Very nice rooms: each one is different, many with a cute living room area and a kitchenette. Barbara (the owner) is super helpful with planning whatever New Orleans adventure you have in mind.

Shannon N.

Yelp
Horrible female owner never wanting to go back to this venue her attitude was juvenile wish I could give negative stars. Also not clean.

Zac M.

Yelp
Hotel Storyville is a fantastic hotel, it a great location. It is just a short walk into the heart of the French Quarter, and if you happen to go during Jazz Fest, it is pretty easy walk to the Fairgrounds as well. The rooms feel like you have your own apartment, complete with dining area and a fully stocked kitchen. The backyard is a great place to hang out and enjoy a coffee in the morning or beer in the afternoon. And there is also a balcony on the second floor where you can sit look out over Esplanade Ave. What makes this hotel truly special though, is the owner, Barbara. She goes above and beyond to make sure that her guests enjoy themselves and have a positive experience at her hotel. She would check in with me personally each day to make sure there was nothing that our family needed. She gave us coupons for tours around the city, and some deals to restaurants in the neighborhood. She even offered some free wine and beer from her personal refrigerator when I inquired about a good place to purchase some nearby! The bottom line is that Barbara really cares about your stay at her hotel, and treats you like a friend. It just feels much more personal and friendly than staying at a big chain hotel. I cannot say enough about Hotel Storyville...stay here if you want a great New Orleans experience!

Yelp
Perfect for the laid-back traveler type. Not too far from Bourbon Street and the French Quarter, but still in a quiet enough area to recover from a great night out.

Ashlee H.

Yelp
This place was great. We came in on New Years Eve of this year. Barbara was very accommodating and helped us out last minute as well as some friends who came in a few days later last minute. She was a great host, and so much fun to meet. The location was great for French Quarter as well as Frenchman Street. I would definitely stay here again.

Weslie B.

Yelp
Hotel Storyville is wonderful! We stayed for 5 nights during JazzFest. The location was perfect for walking to the French Quarter ( and JazzFest). The bed was super comfortable, and our room had wonderful images of the sea. Also, there was a very large yard, with a very peaceful mermaid fountain - it was so quiet that you'd hardly know that you were so close to a busy city. Highly recommend!

Jeanne T.

Yelp
Hotel was a nice big "house" in a real neighborhood. Very comfortable beds. Rooms are mini-suites with kitchens. Near the French Quarter, but away from the noise. Nice back yard & front porch for sitting. No daily maid service, but you can call Barbara (the friendly owner who lives in the building) to request fresh towels, etc. No pool, which I sort of missed because I swim, but I would still stay here again.. A very nice get place, and great getaway.

Yelp
I purchased a two-night stay using groupon, it was an excellent deal, perfect (we thought) for our anniversary get away. Unfortunately, I could not get a reservation, I emailed two different email addresses, called dozens of times, and left messages. One day I decided to call about every half hour, for the first 10 or so calls it went straight to voice mail so you can imagine my surprise when the woman finally answered. I asked about a reservation but was informed very rudely that she was completely booked due to "that groupon", so I inquired about a date in the future to which I got a humph and an exasperated "I'll have to check the reservation book, I'll call you back" then a click. Needless to say I still have not heard back from her. Luckily groupon has refunded my money as I refuse to stay in an establishment with this kind of rude service. Who knows what kind of abuse we would have been subjected to had we actually stayed there.

McCalla B.

Yelp
When I arrived no one was there to greet me, just a note on the door with my keys. I have friends in the city who met me at the hotel and I locked us out of the room. Upon calling the owner of the Hotel Storyville to let me back in my room I was informed that she was "at dinner" and couldn't come for another 30 min. After about 15, my friends and I started sharing music with each other on the deck and it wasn't for another 30 minutes after that that the owner arrived to let us in our room. Immediately upon seeing me there with friends I was accused of letting 5 people stay in a room meant for 1-2. This however was not the case, as I mentioned above that I have friends who live in the city and the other person with me was my partner who I was sharing the room with. The owner doesn't believe me, accuses me of causing too much of a ruckus at her "esteemed hotel" and was then told I had to get out and that my money wasn't welcome there. From here the owner physically turned around and left the property. I called her and asked her to come back and speak to me however I was told over and over again that I wasn't the kind of business welcomed at her hotel and she would under no circumstances come back and speak to me. Authorities would threatened to be called if I did not vacate the premises. I have never been so rudely treated and felt so threatened in all of my life.

Susan B.

Yelp
this is a beautiful little spot in a fantastic area. we had such a great experience and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to visit the french quarter. We had an extra night to spend in New Orleans but all of the hostels were booked (we forgot new years eve was coming up) and so were trying to find a hotel we could afford close enough to Frenchmens street that could we go drink see a jazz show and not worry about driving. We finally called Storyville about their 99 dollar studio, were told it was available and would be ready in about an hour. Right before we got there Barbara texted us letting us know she'd been able to upgrade us to a top floor suite with a kitchen and full bath. It was this gorgeous, quirky blue room with cool maps of the caribbean and a view of the garden (it's huge) and a fridge and plenty of whiskey tumblers. and the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. I saved up for months to buy a really nice mattress but that bed made mine seem like a burlap sack on a park bench. Barbara made us feel super comfortable and at home, she was very laid back and gave us her number to call if we needed anything. Honestly the location alone makes the place worth choosing, we were there to explore the city and weren't concerned with hotel aesthetic as were weren't planning on spending any time there, but the hotel itself was so lovely we ended up lounging on the second story balcony drinking and people watching for a couple of hours. This place is awesome, and the staff is so kind. If you're looking for the regularity of a Hyatt or Sheraton or whatever it's probably not a good fit, but if you're looking for a cute spot that feels like home and captures the vibe of the city you'd be foolish to pass Storyville up.
