Hotel Surf Mar

On arrival, no water in the hotel, reception was downright rude and uninterested telling us to buy water from the vending machine, €2-50 for 500mls, she then laughed and walked away, not a great start. Hotel itself was well laid out and clean. The bar staff were fantastic, really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The first day was relaxing apart from being unable to shower, however this quickly changed, it appears the hotel is used as an outdoor pursuits centre for schools and the place was inundated with school children who created carnage, spitting off the balconies, throwing things at people, spraying sun cream etc. meal times were like feeding time at the zoo, food thrown on the floor and constant screaming,there was no supervision and the staff with them showed no interest. Running up and down the corridors at all hours. Pool access was restricted as they were also teaching scuba diving on some days. The hotel had a group of Italian students doing workplace training, which most of the time they looked so uninterested and spent more time messing around with each other often making rude gestures. Key cards for the room were a nightmare, kept not working so constantly going back to reception to get them re-programmed. Entertainment was poor, mostly disco's aimed for the school children. Not a place to visit if you want a relaxing holiday, which is a shame as the place is in a great location, looking into the beach with great views.

Stayed here for a netball weekend. Hotel is lovely and clean, was pleasant and nice (room cards were touch and go though). Staff however, were rude from the off! Constant nagging for room cards or drinks card, moaning when entering the restaurant. Can’t possible play volleyball in the pool either. Life guard told us off for that. It was like there was ‘no fun allowed’ policy. Was ok at first to overlook but it was so constant we preferred to go out of the hotel. |Also, one pillow provided is not enough. Pack your own guys!

Netball weekend!! Netball was absolutely fantastic just a real shame about the staff. Being told to be quiet in the bar at 9pm. The lady at the restaurant checking you in was so abrupt. |No kettle in the room so went to get a cup of tea in the morning and was told you couldn’t take it back to the room. |Such a shame as the netball was really good. The hotel should maybe re think about allowing netball tournaments to happen here.

The rooms get cleaned when youre not in . Food service is great . The location is splendid as we are next to the beach and overall the area is amazing to visit!

There’s a huge security issue at this hotel. They will give replacement room key cards to anyone who asks for one without any checks, not even a name. ||The property is no where near a 4 star. |No kettle or drinks, very thin towels, repetitive food, grounds not kept nicely.||The rooms are very basic, very dated and worn out. |You couldn’t have a bath due to the filler in the bath and around the plug holes. The showers do not stay up. In one room a wall lamp was hanging off the wall.|However, they were clean. But didn’t look it due to how worn they were. ||The breakfast was good, plenty of choice. Dinner was ok, but repetitive. Lots of Spanish food, which we enjoyed, but for the picky eaters you’d struggle. No typical ‘kids corner’ pizza/chicken nuggets etc. Although it was tasty, I couldn’t do a week of it. Had lunch one day, was pretty much the same as dinner.||Kids joined in a couple of things when we were at the hotel and although it was mostly in Spanish the staff were welcoming. ||It’s in a nice location across from the beach and a few cocktail bars. But if you’re wanting to go find more of a nightlife it’s a trek up and down some big hills.|
