Hotel Ta' Cenc & Spa

I stayed one night here which isn't really enough to take in everything they have to offer on the property, the room was very peaceful and quiet, probably one of the most quiet stays during my three week trip to Malta and Gozo which I really appreciated. The room was well equipped and clean, and layed out nicely... not too cramped. The gardens at this hotel are very nice (visiting in October), wonderful variety of plants, walking the grounds itself is a treat. The views of the channel from the terrace restaurant and heated pool area are also very nice. I think overall this is a nice hotel with friendly staff. I didn't make it to the Spa, but overall very restorative vibe.

Our stay at Hotel Ta’ Cenc was mixed. The room itself had issues – we found ants inside, the balcony was dirty with an old cigarette, and the air conditioning could only cool to 22°C, resetting automatically. Once, we even had no hot water for about two hours. Housekeeping did a good job though: the bed was clean and well prepared, and we received fresh water, coffee, tea, and toiletries every day. Service by the pool was disappointing. Even when I waved, nobody came over to take an order. In contrast, the spa staff were excellent – especially the bald man in the white polo. He was by far the most helpful person in the whole hotel, even bringing me silicone gloves for my injured hand so I could use the pool. He always checked if we needed towels or anything else, which really stood out. The spa area itself was beautiful, usually quiet, and the sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi were the highlights. Massages, however, are far too expensive. Food was very good – dinner was tasty with a fair price for a 3-course menu, and breakfast was excellent, even with sparkling wine included. Overall: great spa and food, but service and room conditions need serious improvement.

No internet in room for all of our trip. Hotel could not organise a simple taxi ride despite repeated requests. The result was we were left stranded and could have missed our flight home. Room has flies most of the time so hotel staff had to keep spraying it. Good food and location.

We stayed at Hotel Ta’ Cenc in Gozo for four days over the New Year celebrations. While the hotel is marketed as a 5-star property, our experience unfortunately did not meet that standard. I had to chase the hotel by email after my card was charged twice for the room and was eventually told the duplicate charge was an administrative error. When the refund was processed, the hotel deducted charges such as taxi transfers and the New Year’s Eve meal without informing me beforehand. Money was taken from my card without my consent, and this was only explained after the deductions had already been made. At no time was I provided with an itemised bill for the charges applied to my card. The manager was not apologetic about the situation, which was very disappointing and unprofessional. On arrival, the room itself was dated, particularly the bathroom, and did not reflect what one would expect from a 5-star hotel. On a positive note, the common areas of the hotel are pleasant, and the spa and hotel grounds are very nice. The New Year’s Eve dinner was excellent, with a live band, and special mention should be made of the very good vegan meal provided. Overall, despite some positives, the service issues, billing problems, and dated rooms mean that this hotel does not live up to a 5-star rating.

My husband and I had a very relaxing 2 week holiday here in October. This is a real gem of a hotel. The staff place great emphasis on taking care of you. From the wonderful reception staff to the outstanding restaurant service staff and chefs, you are made to feel relaxed and special and given proper 5 star treatment. I honestly didn't want to leave. The spa is blissful and the staff are fantastic. Well done Ta Cenc for giving us a holiday we will not forget and we will return. We also loved your beautiful gardens and the well thought out bungalow arrangements. It's been a joy.

Good news service good, location good, food OK. Our room was a good size with an outdoor area and the hotel had two good size swimming pools.||BUT our room / bathroom and the whole hotel was old dated and in need of an update. Not current five star standard (could have been in the 1970’s not today). Plus lots of small maintenance issue, broken drain covers, electrical boxes not fixed to walls, broken tiles ….. The current owners are sweating their asset. ||If you visit do not expect modern five star service, food and facilities.

Since last year, and especially 2-3 years ago, there has been a serious upgrading carried out. Because of the way it is created it will always be a challenge between the rustic beauty of the layout and the need for modern well presented rooms. It has been achieved. ||Having visited many hotels in Malta and Gozo over the decades, Ta Cenc is unique in its layout. Anyone wanting everywhere the same go to a traditional relatively boring hotel. Here the two outdoor pools are excellent (we saw the adults pool being redone a couple of years ago) and the outdoor spa pool is especially good as the outside temperature drops. ||Who can complain about the breakfast? Excellent and varied. Looking forward to next time.

This was our 2nd visit to this hotel, and we had a lovely holiday. Our 1st visit was in May 2024, this time in September. Much hotter in September. |We enjoyed breakfasts outside in the restaurant area, under the carob tree for some shade. Pots of tea & coffee are served to your table. You just have to ask.|Dinner was outside too when possible, although by the end of September it was a little cooler in the evenings, and quite a few rainstorms. Food is served to you, choosing from various dishes on the set dinner menu. Lovely selection of Maltese & Gozo wines to choose from. The staff were very attentive and the maitre d very friendly, remembering us from our previous visit. However, the meals took a long time from ordering to arriving; with starters being very large portions. Desserts we thought were a little underwhelming, samples brought to you on a big tray to choose from.|Our room was as lovely as before, just a few steps away from the family swimming pool. Unfortunately the older you get the harder it is to haul yourself up the metal rungs to get out, and no steps to walk down & up to get in & out. The adults only pool did have steps and a handrail, and wasn't too far away either. Pool towels are available in the Spa, and can be changed as often as you need. If you got a new fluffy yellow one that was good, but these rain out quickly and the thin blue ones were not so good. We think they need to be removed and more decent ones purchased as soon as possible.|The bedroom was serviced daily, but we often had to ask for tea bags, toilet rolls & shower gel which the staff had forgotten to replenish.|We were a little concerned about the state of the bamboo roofing over our patio area. It has seen better days and needs to be replaced. Our patio was only swept once in two weeks and the table never wiped, except by us!|Bar staff were friendly, we got to know them well. Very good cocktails. Lunch time meals are served there until about 4.30pm. Service rather slow at times.|There is also a lovely outdoor rock swimming pool attached to the Spa, Starting indoors you're able to swim through until you're outside. Very relaxing in the water. There are not many sun loungers outside by this pool, and not much shade.|There are cats everywhere, begging at tables whenever there is food about. So if you don't like cats .................|We did have a lovely relaxing holiday, in very peaceful surroundings, but on this occasion not 5 star.
