This hotel's main attraction is that you can have a package that provides access to the thermal spa in Bad Harzburg. The hotel itself is a 3 star and is fairly basic but our superior room was clean and fairly spacious. It had a small terrace with a table and chairs and stairs down to the garden through which you went to the spa. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good and freshly cooked, with an emphasis on fish. There was also delicious cake. Although there is not as much English spoken in Bad Harzburg as in other German towns we have visited, one of the owners did speak English well. We felt we were seeing an aspect of German life that is not so often seen by tourists and most of the other visitors were Germans coming for the thermal baths. There were some families but mainly people were 50+. The baths were quite an experience with a variety of saunas and steam rooms, and an amazing salt scrub grotto. These areas are mixed and generally for naked use, although one morning a week is restricted to men or women. The swimming areas are for costume-wearers and are a mix of salt water pools, inside and out, and the biggest jacuzzi I have ever seen. There are also sun bathing areas, with nude options. With the hotel link, you can go in and out of spa as you want as they are adjacent and you have a token to open the back door. A beauty treatment is included in the package, I had a facial which was more therapeutic than relaxing but an interesting experience.
